A Couple of Items
The Darius Miles story has been all over the sidebar. 3ShadesofBlue has an interesting take on it. My general response: No matter how seriously you take the offenses or not, isn't it nice that these are somebody else's issues to deal with? We're 2000% more likely to be discussing Brandon Roy's wallpaper choices than his rap sheet. I kind of like it that way.
Also as Jason Quick has noted Brandon Roy has won the Magic Johnson award, which recognizes the combination of on-court excellence and media/fan relations. The Trail Blazers PR staff was voted as the best in the league as well. Both designations come courtesy of the Pro Basketball Writers Association. Both are well-deserved.

I find it hilarious
that Memphis tried to bring Miles in to screw Portland… Darius ended up screwing Portland and Memphis…
Well, Chris Wallace, good move. Good move indeed.

Geez, who could have imagined?
The Griz grew weary of Miles’ waning work ethic and his relationship with rookie guard O.J. Mayo.
There was widespread concern in the organization about Miles’ off-the-court influence on Mayo near the end of the season.
Seriously, it’s as if the Grizz had no idea who he was before signing him.

Yeah, I mean
The season he was hurt even Stats-Bo played better without him. When he was around, we sucked….

Ca. 4.5 if the NBA players association is to be believed. That's how long it takes a surprisingly large number of players after their paychecks stop

That would be amazing...
Perhaps they should set up their own “retirement plan” to set guys up for life (like they should be, considering). Money is SO easy to get rid of. Not always to easy to procure. But then again, its a free country.
Does anyone know about the appeal process?
I guess it doesn’t matter anyway… the money just isn’t coming off the cap.

The real crime in all this is that the photo of Darius
in the Ron Tillary article shows him in a Blazer jersey!

How does Chris Wallace have a job
Seriously, is there a mistake that he has yet to make. He’s failed so badly that his team is now filled with young, talented, and very impressionable players. Obviously you bring in high character veterans to teach them how to play the game the right way. The only thing you can’t do is bring in a washed up pothead. That’s it. He doesn’t even need to field a winning team. Just don’t bring in a loser who will ruin the rookies. And he failed at that simple task.
Who would have guessed that the infamous email Portland sent out was merely a helpful attempt to prevent Memphis from being stupid. It was just misunderstood.
How's Paul Allen worth $10,500,000,000?
Allen is the dimwitted nimrod who endorsed re-signing Darius Miles to a ridiculous six-year, $48,000,000 in 2004. For Allen’s sake, I hope nowadays that he understands his basketball acumen is next to nil and has nothing to do with his ginormous success financially.
Oh, and by the way, Chris Wallace has nothing on Don Nelson and Mike Dunleavy, Sr. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me one iota to see Darius Miles once again don a Los Angeles Clippers uniform next season. It’s not like Dunleavy, Sr. was in charge during Miles’ first go-around with the Clippers, since at that time Elgin Baylor was running the front office and Alvin Gentry headed the coaching staff.
It was a testament to his (our?) desperation to get talent on the team....
Fortunately we have considerably improved our options for him to “vent” his enthusiasm… :-)
Do cut the man some slack… (if possible).
he's worth that much because
he knows computers not basketball, his net worth has nothing to do with the decisions he makes in basketball

Allen probably knows a lot more about basketball than you think.
The Whitsitt experiment nearly produced a championship. Allen scrapped it when it blew up and started again in a new direction. That takes a realistic view, the courage to admit you’ve made a mistake, and the willingness to change.
Also, no one except Blazer management really knows who was to blame for the Miles overpay. John Nash was the GM at the time, so I suspect it was he who lobbied for it, not Allen.
The rumor is that Allen was the one who lobbied for Miles
But it’s an internet rumor, worth the paper it’s printed on. At the time, Miles looked pretty good so resigning him didn’t seem like a bad idea — just not for that length/amount. But you’re right, Nash would’ve been the guy negotiating the contract, even if Allen signed off on it.
I’ve heard from many people that Allen does know a lot about basketball. For instance, he was the one pushing for Batum staying with the team this year (instead of being stashed overseas) and that looks pretty smart in hindsight.
He doesn't even know that much about computers
Just got in a lucky situation that payed off big. Right place and right time and good luck = 10 billion dollars. Gates was the one who made it go, and even he wasn’t really a computer genius, more of a business genius who also got lots of luck and a little help from his rich family’s connections.
I'm not gonna be pro Darius because of what he did offcourt.
I do however remember when he dropped like 49 on the nuggets right before he got hurt.I hate to see wasted talent & the guy had the talent.Just not the right attitude, if Darius had Roy’s drive he could have beeen awesome!
And if I had 6 more inches ...
… I could be a porn star.
Talent is only part of the equation and not the biggest part at that. It’s what a person has in his heart and his head that matters. Miles is and always has been lacking in both.
hakkaa päälle !
Even after the infamous email
the Blazers PR staff managed to be recognized in a positive manner. I don’t think you can pull off a bigger stunt.
I can't help but think that the Blazers let Darius down
Maybe if they would have believed in him more, and showed their faith in him just a little more, he would not have gone astray.
I should have been one cowboy.
thank you captain sarcasm
I like the whole team.
