USA Today: Skipping school to go pro in Europe background story

+

Interesting article on Sonny Vaccaro, the man behind Brandon Jennings and soon Jeremy Tyler (who even forgoes his senior HS year) skipping college to play professionally in Europe. He was influential in changing how sport icons are marketed as an executive for major sports shoe companies, as well as advising players like LeBron, Kobe and T-Mac who all went pro straight out of school. He criticizes the NCAA's and NBA's current efforts to keep players longer in college (another rule change next year will force underclassmen to decide faster if they want to stay in the draft likely causing more players to go back to school); and especially the amateurism approach the NCAA still tries to hold up despite already being very commercialized but not paying the athletes. Interesting to see both sides.
