What's up with Beyond Bowie?
BeyondBowie.com hasn't had an update in several days. Erik Barmack is no longer listed as one of the bloggers. And the site still seems to think the Houston/Portland series is going on--it lists the Rockets as leading 3-2, with Game Six forthcoming.
Anybody know?
I actually was enjoying some of the writing there--if the site is to be successful, it needs to find something to do that's different from other successful Blazer blogs (like this one), and do it well. I kinda thought that a Blazer Bill Simmons approach would work best, and in some ways that's what Max and Erik were delivering.
But there hasn't been much written there lately--either by the bloggers or in the comments. Even though the season is over, the draft is coming up. The fact that we don't care about the upcoming draft lottery is a reason to celebrate. And there's the Sergio intrigue, questions about other players such as Blake, Outlaw, and Frye--sufficient stuff to keep a blogger busy.
Might be Max is busy with the finishing touches of the film he's producing. I don't know how involved he is in the production, or if he's mainly in an investor/executive-producer role. But still--having more well-written blogs in the blazerblogosphere is a good thing.

They never should have let that red matter get into the wrong hands.

You think Bowie sued them? A foot injury to a writer? Ignored by fans?

yup yup.
Don’t they live in New York and LA? The last time I read that site was the first day it appeared on this site.
I didn’t think they could keep up their blazer fandom from afar.

Keeping it real down here in LA is harder than keeping it real in Portland, yo. And both are fair ways to be a Blazers fan.
I rep my fandom every day, no matter where in the world I am.

My brobro used to live in Vegas
Moved away last year after graduating from UNLV. He sez everyone there is a Laker fan loser who knows nothing about basketball, or about their ‘favorite team’. They show all the Laker games on local TV.
He also says Vegas is incredibly racist, and that’s coming from a non-bleeding heart sensitive soul type. I think the link behind ignorant racists who don’t know pooh from shinola and Laker fandom is extraordinarily strong.

I thought it was funny
that in a town that’s filled with gangsters and low-lifes from top to bottom; and in a town that’s designed to turn you upside-down and shake the loose change out of your pockets before it drops you in the gutter in your underwear—-
the 2007 NBA All-Star game, and the tourists who came to town to watch basketball’s midseason showcase, scared the holy livin’ bejeezus out of the locals.
Now why do you suppose THAT was?

Whoa nelly...
sorry folks, didn’t mean to come off appearing to be hatin’ far away fans. Much respect to your fandom. I am a Lions fans no doubt, so I understand and applaud your loyalty and challenges.
I was just poking at these guys specifically because they are trying to sell us on their blog. I just didn’t think that they could keep up with Portland realistically with their LA/NY jobs and whatever might pull at them. Like national media trying to be as in touch with the Blazers as the local talent, I have my doubts.

Their other plan failed
They wanted to court hardcore Blazer fans (almost all of us are) and named their site after a nasty little pain-point that has been freshly reopened in the media. It feels like a name that a national media org would pick, thinking Blazer fans would appreciate it.
I couldn’t add them to my RSS feed… purely due to the name. Sure it’s superficial, but hey, it’s my RSS aggregator. If that’s their idea of a witty site name, I wasn’t sure their writings were worth the time.

Its why I won't go there
I believe them when they say they are lifelong big Blazer fans, and that’s cool, but the name is TOTALLY what a person assigned to write about the Blazers would pick… like “hey guys, there’s stuff about the Blazers that is Beyond Bowie, did you know? Like, their full name is the TRAIL Blazers. And, like, other stuff too”.
Bowie is pretty much before my time. I didn’t feel that pain growing up and never really cared about him… beyond wanting to move past him and leave it in the past. It has zero relevance for today’s world.
It’s such a horrible name.

Rec
I didn’t get the name at first, David came to my mind first. I was listening to a podcast the other day and one dude said no one thought Portland made a back pick at the time. It’s loser fans from other teams that define the Blazers by that pick. The name implies to me that it’s a Blazers information page from folks that only know Portland because of that draft. Real fans identify with the team in so many more ways than that draft.
