Trade paths and minutes
So once again like last year we will be faced with an exceedingly deep talented young squad and too few minutes to develop our younger players, if we want to get to a play-off like efficiency.
It looks like our weakest position is point guard and we should probably attempt to trade talent to get a new starting point guard. Assume the new point guard is of Hinrich caliber or better, since we won't really want to trade for somebody that isn't much better than blake. I'm also assuming that this trade could go down in a lot of ways with different players going at different times(during the draft, sign and trades etc...)
Here's a couple trade options(I'm assuming Sergio is on his way out) I'm also assuming we will be able to pick up a replacement for Channing Frye if needed:
1. Rudy + Sergio.
Trade value: potential borderline allstar with a rock n' roll lifestyle, plus instant Spanish/Euro fan-base. Other teams will like the instant fan appeal of Rudy, plus the marketing potential abroad.
2. Trout + Blake + Sergio
Trade value: great offensive SF, steady backup point guard and Sergio. If a team needs punch from the bench and to solidify there back up point guard at a low price this would be the way to go. (Chicago might find this especially appealing)
3. Trout + Sergio + Bayless
Trade value: great offensive SF, combo guard who would still be valued like a top-five draft pick. (If your bench is not doing anything, this could totally transform your team.)
4. do nothing- Sergio
In each of these cases it's possible to work the minutes to get to a 10 player rotation where there won't be too much grumbling. However, the question is which is our strongest rotation, and which will give us the most trade value.
Minutes
(these are approximations just to show what the rotation would look like, I'm leaving center out because we've got that covered):

Unless for some reason
You are able to pull off getting an elite vet starting PG and a back up Banger PF just trade Sergio and draft the best available players using the late 2nd round picks to trade up if needed and then let them battle for minutes best players play.
I didn't include that option because
I couldn’t figure out a way to get to a 10 man rotation with just Trout gone, unless we want to bench Bayless permanently. I don’t think an 11 man rotation is realistic.
Well, that depends on a lot of things
If KP can bring in a starting PG who can push Blake to backup and Bayless can’t eventually beat out Blake, then what are we worrying about re: Jerryd’s future as a Blazer? He’s gotta be better than Blake at some point or he’s not a “keeper” anyway, right?
Travis has got to go in favor of a real backup PF. I can live with the SF combo of Batum-Webster, assuming Martell’s foot heals. Roy can swing to SF against smaller lineups, but not as a permanent solution. (A decision will eventually have to be made re: the Roy/Rudy minutes crunch at shooting guard, but I think that’s 18-24 months out)
Also, if the Blazers use their ~$7million on a free agent like Miller, can
we still use our mid-level on someone else?
Also do you guys think that McDyess would sign with us for the minimum???
