Kobe better than MJ? Really???
Kickerblogger has a good post up about the arguement of Kobe vs MJ. To me there is no arguement, MJ was flat out better, and the stats and rings show it. (As does this weekends blow out loss to the Rockets) The poster, uses per36 min stats to compare the two players, an he gap between them is very very apparent.
But I was interested in seeing how D. Wade's season compared, because I felt he had a much better season that Kobe, and only just below LBJ.
Wade p/36
pts 28.2
blk 1.3
stls 2.0
asts 7.0
rebs 4.7
ts% 57.4
eFG% 51.6
FGA 20.5
3PA 3.3
FTA 9.1
FT% 76.5
3P% 31.7
They still don't match or exceed MJ's stats from when he was Wade's age, (27) but they are much closer than Kobe's are.
When will people who should know something about basketball, stop talking about Kobe like he is as good or even better than MJ? Maybe never, which is sad because he never was, and never will be like Mike.

statistically, Kobe really isn't that close to MJ
Wade’s recently completed season was indeed a lot closer.

Kobe isn't even the best player of his era
Between Shaq and Duncan, I take them both over Kobe. Playoff performances matter and Kobe just doesn’t measure up against the best.

The only guy who's got a chance of someday surpassing Jordan is playing in Cleveland right now.
And he’s still got some work to do…
Go get ’em Wally!

Ya
I looked LBJ’s stats up too, at the same age he is now (24), Jordan has him in every stat. Not by a ton, but by enough to make you say, "wow, James is awsome now, and MJ was that much better? wow. "

Huh? No he doesn't.
Lebron turned 24 this season, Jordan in the 86-87 season.
37.7 9.7 19.9 .489 1.6 4.7 .344 7.3 9.4 .780 1.3 6.3 7.6 7.2 1.7 1.1 3.0 1.7 28.4 vs
40.0 13.4 27.8 .482 0.1 0.8 .182 10.2 11.9 .857 2.0 3.2 5.2 4.6 2.9 1.5 3.3 2.9 37.1
Jordan obviously outscored Lebron by a good margin, and he also got more steals and blocks. However, Lebron crushes Jordan in assists/rebounds, has slightly less turnovers, can actually shoot the long ball, butis a worse FT shooter. Jordan also played slightly more minutes and I would guess a faster pace, although that’s just a guess.
Either way, Jordan has the better “all around” stats, but saying Jordan has him beat in EVERY stat, when Lebron slaughters MJ in the rebound/assist category is just ridiculous. Jordan only had 1 year in rebounds and assists that can match Lebron’s career numbers.
Obviously Jordan is well ahead of Lebron for now, but James has another decade to win titles with. He also doesn’t need to win quite 6 since 1. Jordan never ran into another good dynasty and 2. Mo Williams is not in the same class as Pippen as a support player.
Kobe meanwhile… cannot catch Jordan, period. Maaaaybe if he wins 3-4 consecutive titles and gets all the MVPs he can… but something about 5 NBA finals appearences and 0 NBA finals MVPs doesn’t scream “greatness” to me.

Anyone who would rather have MJ on their team instead of Kobe is delusional
Kobe has years left of service and MJ has been out of the league for years.

Kobe may be more skilled than Jordan.
He might be the most skilled guard/wing of all time. But he’s not BETTER than Jordan.

Stats schmats.
Being the marquis player, MJ getting 3 more rings is the only stat that is relevant. Stats will vary with the same player in different contexts. During more mediocre years, Kobe has needed to score 50+ for the team to stay in the game, driving his numbers up. Wade carries a disproportionate offensive load too.
A lot of players look like All-Stars when they play for middle-of-the-pack or garbage teams.

It's a lost cause or point, but I'll make my case.
Its a much better league than it was in jordans day…. jordan created the bar for these youngsters to hurdle over…none may be able to accomplish what jordan has, but has jordan ever surpassed wilt the stilt as the GREATEST ever?
