My favorite point Pelton makes is that Pitino-- who is now a goliath-- is actually hurting his chances by employing a high variance, "underdog" strategy
With all their 3 point shots, the Orlando Magic are another high variance team, but in the NBA playoffs— since it isn’t a 1 and done situation— that makes more sense.
I think part of it, specifically with regards to pressing, is also due to motivation. While many NBA players clearly are very competitive, it would be tough for a coach to convince his team that they need to be the best conditioned team in the league, and they have to want it more than every other team in the league, and they have to willing to kill themselves for 48 minutes, 82 games a year. The length of the season and frequency of the games plays into it as well. You would need to go 11 or 12 deep as an NBA team (and thus greatly dilute your offensive talent level)

Also here’s a DIII college team that plays some crazy press
