Brandon Roy

From a Rockets fan, thank you for a great series and thank you for having a young team to allow the new rockets to get the stigma of the old rockets off their backs.

I love your team and part of me kinda wishes i was in your position with a young athletic team that will only get better.  Also, you have one of the 5 best players in the NBA.  Brandon Roy will be a double digit all star and will win a championship sometime in his career.  I know you know this but if he wasnt on the west coast he would probably already be in the LeBron, Kobe, D-Wade debate.  Ive never seen anybody, not even Kobe, make as many shots as B-Roy did with Battier defending him.  Shane had a hand in Roy's face on almost every shot this series and Roy still played amazingly.

Best of luck to yall in the future (unless youre playing my Rox), and thanks for great commentary on TDS throughout the whole series.

Just kidding. Well said and good luck against the Fakers.

Thanks

Now that the Blazers are out, I am rooting for Houston to win it all this year. Ron and Shane need to get into Kobe’s head and win another game 1 on the road. They don’t have anyone who can stop Yao.

psst...

BRoy is already in the wade/lebron debate.

now, beat L.A.

Yes he is. Ask Artest ;-)

Congrats to Houston. Beat LA!
Going forward Blazers have 5 draft picks, and Rockets have none :)

no he isnt

that was just gamesmanship by artest. If people actually thought he was then the analysts wouldnt have laughed at Artest for saying that.

Roy's not there yet.

Give him two more years. Then it may be just LeBron, CP3 and Roy.

Yes! Yes! In the face!

I think you can throw Durant in there too

if youre looking at two years from now. I know yall will argue but look at his shooting percentages and that tells the whole story.

FG% – .476
3PT% – .422

He had an unbelievable offensive season

It will be interesting to track his defensive stats. According to 82games.com, the Thunder were over 8 points per 100 possessions better on defense with him out of the game this season. That’s enormous. Sometimes that is fluky and a matter of when you play and who plays with you, but that’s a stat that ought to be tracked in the coming years.

His offense is already elite, that’s for sure.

by jksnake99 on May 1, 2009 11:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Without looking at any numbers...

I’d guess part of that might be that he played the most minutes, and since the “Thunder” SUUUUUCK, more minutes equals big -

actually

http://www.82games.com/0809/0809OKC1.HTM

he played the same amount as minutes as Jeff Green, but Green had a -6.8 per 48 while Durant had a -8.3. That’s a pretty big jump.

Also Westbrook only had a -4.9, which is way higher than Durant’s as well

Hope Yao goes nuts on Bynum

And Battier gets in Kobe’s head.

But can I at least root against Wafer if I still root for Houston?

by senormateo on May 1, 2009 5:02 PM PDT reply actions

Thanks. The Blazers are in an interesting position.

We’re sure we’re going to be very good for the next 7-10 years, but as far as our title hopes, its hard to know where we are. So much depends on Greg Oden’s ability to get back to resembling the athlete he was in college.

Roy is a stud though, that much we know for sure— not a top 5 player yet as James, Wade, Bryant, Paul, Howard and a healthy Garnett and Duncan are all better, but he will be once he becomes better defensively.

by jksnake99 on May 1, 2009 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

The top 5 debate is exactly as it sounds, a debate.

I consider Roy in the top 5 along with Bron, Kobe, Wade, and CP3. Howard doesnt have a good enough post game yet to be in the top 5 as a center, but he could be soon. I think Duncan and KG are over the hill and their injuries show that.

I have a suspicion that Duncan is done

I haven’t been following news on him, but seeing him play lately. Ugh. Great career, but it’s probably time to call it.

Fair point

How about this? I’ll go ahead and say it for BOTH of them this year.

Thanks man.

Since you are playing the L@kers next, I guess I am a Rockets fan for your next 4-7 games. Good luck, and Ron-Ron can feel free to kick K0be in the crotch, and punch him in the face.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

The only thing that worries me about Roy is his knee

Not many people mention it, but seriously, how bad is it? Is he gonna have surgery this off season? I literally spent the entire season holding my breath because something just doesn’t look right… Does anyone else get this impression? I just need reassurance that he’s perfectly ok and he’ll play ten more years for us.

There goes Brandon Roy, the best there ever was in this game.

by two buck chuck on May 1, 2009 6:53 PM PDT reply actions

He's okay.

No surgery at all.

Rest and five less minutes next season. Rudy won’t mind.

Bedge or go home.

by Ojala John on May 1, 2009 8:17 PM PDT up reply actions

no ones mentioned it...but

his rookie year when it was more problematic, Roy would often decide to do a layup instead of dunk. It always prompted me to scream on the rare occasion that he would dunk. This year however he is dunking with force once every few games. I would assume that its not a major concern but still and underlying issue.

Here's hoping Odom catches an elbow from Yao right in the face.

Good luck Houston. You have a bunch of great players and winner of a coach.
