Blazers Into NBA Europe?
I was thinking.. I'm not sure if any pre-season plans are made yet but wouldn't it be great to get the Blazers into NBA Europe? Esp. now with this team with Rudy, Sergio, Nic and all and maybe getting to play in Spain that would be a great thing. Also for the experience and marketing of the blazers that would be awesome.
Any thoughts of the chances they will be? (here's hoping btw!)

Well, we have a lot of "euros" but
what do you mean? An exhibition, pre-season game? Defecting from the Western Conference entirely and basing our team over there…..? There may be some holes in your plan.

No-No. Haven’t you even heard of this tournament every year: http://www.nba.com/europelive2008/
4 teams come over every year to europe to play a tournament. In the month before the NBA kicks off. Last year the Nets/Hornets/Wizards/Heat came over. I think it were the Spurs and some others the year before that.

Nope--don't follow other teams' preseasons for the most part. I don't think the Blazers have ever been involved. You must live in Europe, right?
Looks cool…when does the league announce the participants?

This is something that gets a lot of hype every year.
And it’s some of the first televised basketball games of the year.

Don't. It's not really a big deal.
Part of the NBA hype machine. They go as far as adding red, white, and blue trim to uniforms that ususally don’t have that color. It would be cool to see our boys take a quick tour of Spain and France though.

Last year it was announced march 27. Yeah i Live in The Netherlands. I think the NBA selects 4 teams to participate in it. Just thought this was the right year to pick the blazers. Just wondered if anyone ‘inside’ the Blazers knew more or had some info about their pre-season plans.

It would be so cool if the Blazers played NBA Europe. After last summer’s game in Barcelona I was hoping they’d come to Spain in 2009! Here’s to hoping!
Last years NBA Europe teams were Miami, the Nets, NO and the Wizards. So if the two teams that have been announced this year are different, maybe there’s a chance…

It would be interesting
But I suppose my best chance to catch Rudy & Co. ahead of most people this year in Poland in September :)
Congrats to Houston. Beat LA!
Going forward Blazers have 5 draft picks, and Rockets have none :)

You dont wanna go to poland. Annoying country ;-)
Ye when i just saw they announced the 2 others in the UK its VERY VERY likely the other matchup will be in Spain (madrid/barcelona) so portland would be the best NBA team right now to be playing there with their 2 spanish players. I think it’s a very likely idea…
Portland vs Thunder or something would be nice.

So we could beat them by 35 again? Haha

This is a really good idea
It would be dumb of the NBA not to do it but you dont want to underestemate their capacity for being dumb

Ofcourse. Lets get houston to China. Atleast we don’t lose then ;-)

houston does go to china.
i think one year it was houston vs sacramento. When i was living in shanghai, my friend got tickets from david stern to join dinner with them and he got me patrick chewing’s autograph (back when he was an assistant coach with the rockets) as well as clyde drexler and juwan howard all on my high school basketball jersey (#22 for obvious reasons).
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

honestly
I’d hope that if Portland were to compete in this tourney, that either Rudy starts and Roy comes off the bench for <15 minutes, or Roy starts and his rotation is like Batum’s of this year

Every year they play some preseason games over here
Arenas-less Wizards
Aging-Webber and Iverson-is-a-shadow-from-the-past Sixers
“We had 50-wins last season but we’re gonna lose it all this year” Grizzlies
And the amazing “this year we’ll make it past the first round – oh, no, we’re in the lottery” Raptors
Don’t let them come, it’s jinxed.

The crowds to see the spanish armada would be worth it.
Just think of how much money they could make by having the blazers play another team in Madrid. Name a stadium and they could fill it.
