Portland wanting Paul (shocker!)
"They should seek an elite scorer at small forward or an elite point guard. I have no doubt they will offer anything and everything not named Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge or Greg Oden to New Orleans to see if they can pry away Paul. I doubt it will succeed, but in this summer of contraction, the Blazers shouldn't be shy about trying to rob any team in financial trouble."

Paul is a whining flopper...
but I would love him on this team.
whining players get calls. He also gets the ball to the right players. If he can make Chandler look like an all star he can
make Oden look like a hall of famer.
Let's be clear about one thing:
If Portland got Chris Paul without trading Roy or Oden (and yes, I purposely left Aldridge off that list), it would be one of the biggest steals of all-time. In other words, its not happening.
haha
can you even imagine? Adding the second best player in basketball to Roy and Oden? Chris Paul turned Sean Marks into a serviceable player, and made David West an All-Star. That would be insanity.
It's time for one last offseason, one last time to prune the roster. It was a great ride to 54 wins, and our playoff loss exposed the deficiencies we must address. In KP I trust.

CP3, Roy, Oden
you got the guy who just may become the greatest PG of all time.
a great shooting guard in Roy and who knows how good he will be
and a guy described as a “once in a decade” center prospect.
that big 3 would be disgusting
Bayless, Sergio and Travis and 2 first round picks should get it done. Not.
Congrats to Houston. Beat LA!
Going forward Blazers have 5 draft picks, and Rockets have none :)
Your sig makes me happy
"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

You're forgetting one thing.....
The sign and trade of Channing Frye. That’s the clincher.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
LMA, Bayless, Batum, and Rudy doesn't get it done.

Umm yes it does. Those 4 could all become All Stars. Batum alone such a promising prospect that KP won't trade
him for anyone not named Lebron James. Bayless could develop as a started in NO, and at worst could be a solid replacement.
Then you’re talking about throwing in Rudy and Aldridge. Those two are both really good.
Cp3 just got shut down by Billups. He is not untouchable.
CP3 was hurt
and he’s the best PG since Magic. His rookie season was equivalent to Kidd’s best season.

Why do the Blazers even NEED Chris Paul?
They’re friggin awesome already. It’s just overkill if they get Chris Paul. (And, I bet OKC would be able to offer a much better treat to Nawlinz if that happened.)

I completely agree
Just saying that CP3 is the second best player in the game, and is definitely untouchable.

Every team in the league wants Chris Paul.

we would instantly become better than the lakers with paul
if brandon roy played for toronto he'd be brandon waaaaah
As a fan of both the Blazers and Lakers
I don’t think they would become better than the Lakers by acuiring CP3. They would come close, but until Oden develops I don’t see it happening.
In other news
the other 29 teams want Brandon Roy.

it could happen if paul really wants out to play for a contender.
new orleans almost scrapped their team this year.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.
If the New Orleans Hornets really want to slash salaries for upcoming seasons, then here's a good trade.
FROM CLEVELAND & TO NEW ORLEANS
PF Ben Wallace ($14,500,000)
SF Aleksander Pavlovic ($4,500,000) {Partially Guaranteed For $1,500,000 Next Season}
PF J.J. Hickson ($1,329,480)
SG Tarence Kinsey ($797,581) {Non-Guaranteed Next Season}
PF Darnell Jackson ($450,000) {Non-Guaranteed Next Season}
FROM NEW ORLEANS & TO CLEVELAND
PF David West ($9,862,500)
SG Morris Peterson ($5,592,240)
SF James Posey ($5,585,000)
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=c3er6p
After consummating this trade sometime between the 2009 NBA Draft and the July moratorium, the New Orleans Hornets would save money by waiving Aleksander Pavlovic, Tarence Kinsey, and Darnell Jackson — with only Pavlovic being partially guaranteed any salary next season (i.e., $1,500,000) — while Ben Wallace’s expiring contract of $14,000,000 for the 2009-2010 season will bring some financial relief to the Hornets in the future. J.J. Hickson would become the Hornets power forward of the future, too.
For the Cleveland Cavaliers, this is the kind of move that’d shore up a few spots. James Posey and Morris Peterson would be satisfactory replacements for Wally Szczerbiak — who’ll probably leave via free agency this off-season — and the aforementioned Pavlovic. David West would solidify the Cavaliers power forward spot for years, even though there are questions regarding his inefficiency on offense and suspect defense. Yes, West is a lot like LaMarcus Aldridge in those ways.
the issue with that trade
is Chris Paul realizing his team traded away every other credible player.

After taking another glance at the cap figures for Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets, ...
it appears that the trade could be expanded just slightly to save even more money for the struggling franchise down on the Bayou. It’d have to take place after the July moratorium, however, because the NBA’s new fiscal year begins on 7/1/2009 — while Jawad Williams, who recently signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on 4/9/2009, can’t be traded for 90 days (i.e., 7/9/2009) — and there’s a grace period from then until 7/8/2009.

If George Shinn wants to save a lot money and simultaneously hold onto Chris Paul as the face of his franchise, then that’s one way to do it.
Another move George Shinn should look to make this off-season is dumping Peja Stojakovic.
Sometime after the July moratorium, the New Orleans Hornets should offer up the following trade — even though it wouldn’t cut costs for Shinn next season — since it’d slice $14,256,000 from the team’s books for the 2010-2011 season.
FROM NEW JERSEY & TO NEW ORLEANS
SF Bobby Simmons ($11,242,667)
SF Trenton Hassell ($4,350,000)
FROM NEW ORLEANS & TO NEW JERSEY
SF Peja Stojakovic ($13,392,000 + 10% Trade Kicker)
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5063276
Again, Shinn must look to move guys like David West and Stojakovic rather than fathom the idea of trading Chris Paul under any circumstances.
The problem with trading fro CP3
Would be salary cap, isn’t he still on his rookie contract? That’d make it really tough to get a talent like that at that price
His extension kicks in this summer
so his salary # for trade purposes will be in the neighborhood of 13million. Thus to make the numbers work will just require a lot of bodies and/or Pryz.
Chris Paul will also be a base-year compensation player next season, which would muddy the ...
waters in any trade scenario involving him. Regardless, though, George Shinn would be a complete moron if he forced GM Jeff Bower into dealing Paul. From the standpoint of keeping the New Orleans Hornets franchise valuable as an on-court product to potential buyers, dealing Paul would potentially cost Shinn millions upon millions of dollars in a possible sale.
Cap room changes the BYC scenario though
I’m not sure Ian Thomsen knows that.

Paul
Bayless, Outlaw, 2009 First round pick, 2009 Four 2nd Round Picks, 2011 1st round pick, 2013 1st round pick, 2015 1st round pick, 2017 1st round pick + Blake.
Yea right.
Chris Paul!
Maybe to LA or NY, even Dallas ; but PDX?
Who knows
but they always seem to get what they want. They love Mitch Kupchak in LA as much as we love KP.
For sure
but any team would be great with him.
I'm talking
Dynasty great. He could even provide us with above rim play via alley oops. Which would be convenient if we decide to trade Sergio.
You're definitely right.
It would take something special to get him out of NO. Even his request might not be enough.
I think I'd stop following the Blazers
if they acquired Chris Paul. I mean where’s the fun in winning every year for the next decade?
Rings don't come easy.
I say it's a good idea
We should try to trade for him.
This is why KP got all those 2nd round picks!
