Junk 4/5 SitCom Edition
In the gameday thread for the OKC game Timmay and I got into a short conversation regarding Sitcoms. Reality TV and 17 incarnation of Law and Order plus the 9 CSI's have pushed Sitcoms off the network roster in a big way. Right now I watch My Name is Earl and a few others. What were your favorite Sitcoms of the old days?? What good ones have you seen that got dumped so you could watch more of the World's Fattest Super Model or Pimp My Tool Shed??

I like the one before it..
with Doogie Howser.. great show
Other than death and taxes, only 4 things in this world are indisputable:
Brandon Roy is the BEST player in the NBA in the clutch.
Montana to Rice were the greatest to ever play the game.
The Four Horsemen of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine and Avery were unstoppable.
No one protects the pipes like Luongo.

Both look OK
I don’t have time because of my hours to watch prime time. I’m usually back looged with basketball to watch.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
DVR man
how I met your mother is the name. great

I got a DVR with week and weeks of backed up basketball games, and Fox Sunday cartoons
I don’t want to watch anything new
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
As a child/teenager I watched almost every episode of:
Married with Children, Home Improvement (is that the US title?), Prince of Bel Air, (Bill) Cosby Show, Alf, Step by Step, Who’s The Boss. Is Baywatch a sitcom?
Later also: Spin City, Friends, Seinfeld, Becker, Suddenly Susan, Arrested Development.
Currently: Scrubs. Some episodes of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Entourage?
If animated Sitcoms count also: American Dad, South Park, Simpsons, Futurama.
Never been a fan of: Raymond, Will & Grace, Frasier, 3rd Rock
I often find the synchronized versions better if I grew up with those.
synchronized?

Localized/translated/dubbed
The speaker usually hits the tone and character, but the color of the voice can be much different. E.g. I like the German version of the Simpsons much better than the US or Norwegian.
What are ya...some sorta foriegner??

Arrested Development
Best show ever. There really isn’t anything to say more than that. I cannot wait for the movie to come out to finish up where season three left off.
Can I get a headband? One for my peeps, one for the fans in the really cheap seats, one for my momma, one for the mayor, and if you wanna get down with the players, YOU GOTTA GET A HEADBAND!
Fact
It was on opposite Monday Night Football, because FOX wanted it gone. Freaking CHEERS woulda dies opposite MNF!!
not sitcom related
but it sure was nice to see Gil play last night. Agent 0 baby!

Do you ever watch sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and think your parents are dumb?
They watched sum big time crap.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
It was a transitional period I think
However there were good ones in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s if you look. Taxi, All in the Family, MASH, and Cheers leap to mind

I'm mad
TVLand has run its course with the Andy Griffith Show. Bring back Gilligan’s Island and Gomer Pyle, USMC
I AM A PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS SUPPORTER.
I'm gonna write a fanpost saying I've had all these ideas since the beginning of the season about the team
And FINALLY Nate has taken my advice and done everything I’ve been screaming all year. I’m so much smarter than everyone in the Blazers organization.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
I never saw you talk about getting a trade exception and Ruffin for Ike. Man, you really screwed that one. (Or they did.)
i remember tom pushing for that
like two seasons ago. trading for bayless was just a means to get ike and then ruffin/trade exception.
Yup
I also said we should hire all the coaches that are hired and that they should improve on defense and win the games the Blazers have won.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
Now who here SERIOUSLY thinks that the Spurs are better than the Blazers this year?
Not me.
They’ll win against Portland at home on the back-to-back this week, but they’ve got Tony Parker, the non-offensive threat Bruce Bowen, and a cast of wheelchair olympians.
Tim Duncan — 6 points and 7 rebounds in 26:38 against the Cavs.
Insert fork.
Pontiff of the Pryz for Prez Posse...
You haven't seen Duncan's contract, have you?
Ruffin = poor man’s Tim Duncan.
Pontiff of the Pryz for Prez Posse...
I really hate that team. I would love to see them lose home advantage and be the 5 against the Blazers' 4.
Pontiff of the Pryz for Prez Posse...

Newhart is on Sunday nights on WGN
Along with WKRP and Alf.
WKRP is on my all-time short list, though I wish they’d restore the music and over-dubbed voices. The music industry is a bunch of spoil-sports.
My wife is really enjoying the Newhart run. I like it as well, though I’m really going to enjoy seeing the finale in order for the first time in 20 years.
How could I forget WKRP??!
OMG that was awesome. When Johnny did his bit about phone cops….I just about died

My wife saw that episode for the first time a month ago
“The phone cops! They’re after me!”
She busted up laughing.
The final episode is coming up in a few weeks, where they reveal the minor twist about why the network was allowed to stink for so many years.
I went ahead and set up series recordings
for both.
Also when Venus and Johnny were taking the sobriety tests while drinking was classic. Johnny kept getting faster the more he drank…hilarious

"Fish Story"
That’s the one where they’re drinking.
True story: The network execs were cranky that the show was too cerebral in its first season, so they made the writers do a slapstick episode. So Bill Dial wrote up that episode under pseudonym, because he didn’t want his name attached to it. He only wrote it to satisfy the network guys.
But it ended out becoming a classic instead. Sometimes, the network guys do know what they’re doing. But it’s usually by accident, like when Canzano is right about something.
(Bill Dial, the writer, is the big oaf who’s breaking all the equipment at Del’s Stereo, when the gunman takes over the broadcast btw)
Here's my list of best, all-time favorite, most underrated, current favorite, and animated network sitcoms.
Best: M*A*S*H
All-Time Favorite: The Wonder Years
Most Underrated: Freaks and Geeks
Current Favorite: How I Met Your Mother
Animated: Futurama
Definately one of the better ones
The one where Jimmy James is in coma is great …also the one where Phil Hartman is trying to quit smoking with the Patch is pretty funny too

I want PHX to win vs DAL
Makes for more intrigue for the 8th spot. Neither one of those two are gonna catch PDX.

Dallas just dropped 81 on Phoenix in the first half. Statement?
Everclear is the worse band of all time.
Did you even watch the last game?
I love it when fans try to say they know stuff about stuff, then they don’t click the links. Typical homer response.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
He's not left out of mine
Girlfriend was one of the most underrated albums on the 90’s. I even got my wife to enjoy it.
Universal Studios California
I asked a few of you guys about this a few days ago. (And got some great feedback)
I’m probably headed down to Universal later this week in SoCal. Any recommendations for how long it takes to do it? One or two days to hit the rides?
Also, anyone seen how crazy will it be during Spring Break?
depends how many shows you watch
and i think there might even be a few rides….you could spend all day there. i think we were there for about 6 hours and then we were hot and tired and left.
LMA: 35 points, 18 rebounds against "OKC." Beaste!
to do the whole thing
it takes about 2 days. you can do it quicker but not see everything. You got kids your taking or just a better half?

Then in that case, you can probably do it in a day. the lines are long on the weekends
but not so bad on the weekdays. you should really go out at night and go see some live music and get dinner in there. Its got a citywalk with bars and clubs (like BBKings and a latin club and a jazz club) where you can spend the evening as well. and if all else fails, you can take Lankershim back across the freeway and take a tour of the Vivid studios building 6 blocks away.!!!

Interesting. We'll go out of our way to hit it on Thurs or Fri if possible then
Saturday night is the game, of course…
Hopefully this trip is a go, I’ll know by Tuesday probably. Thanks for the tips, guys. -Tim
2 days?
I thought it was a half day thang, easy.
My dad got me a VIP pass thingy for my b-day last year; it came with a tour and quick access to the rides. But there’s only like 3 rides and there isn’t much to do. It was fun though, and I liked the Simpsons ride.
BUT HEY, that’s just me, okay? Don’t gimme no guff ’bout it ’bout it.
Mortimer
well if you are gonna do the shows and the clubs and all that
and if you have kids its diff.. thats why i asked. with kids it takes easily two days. if its just adults you can do it in a day easy.

Ahhh gotcha. So really there's just a few rides and just all kinds of shows and stuff?
Never been there before so we’re going in pretty cold.
Well you better get warmed up, pal
You go in cold to a place like that, it’ll eat you alive.
This isn’t the Bay area, friend. You better be prepared or get ready to be REpaired— in the morgue!!
Universal ain’t no joke, kid.
Mortimer, who has been around.
there are a a few rides, they are pretty good.
its more of a contained small city really than just a theme park. I lived right up the street for about 2 years so it lost its interest to me other than the clubs and food, but i remember the first time i went it took a full day to do it all.

But seriously folks. Perfect Strangers was my favorite sitcom growing up.
These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx
Do you remember Derek Anderson?
He was one of my favorite guys in dark days, if not for his injury issues and big contract at that time (waived to get tax amnesty). Also on NBA Live/2k he was highly useful as a big guard for the PG spot, so I often ended up trading for him to fill out my roster even when playing other/fantasy teams. I wonder what he is up to these days. Last seen in Charlotte last year I think.
On August 3, 2005, he was the first player in the league waived using the so-called “luxury tax amnesty clause” of the 2005 NBA collective bargaining agreement.
(Also known as the Allan Houston rule)
I liked when we traded for him
It sucks he was such a weenie who wouldn’t play because of fake injuries. He made me miss Steve Smith.
M.
He was a Blazer killer with the Spurs
I guess he was with the Blazers as well.
How about SCENARIO, Bill?
This has nothing to do with the NBA but I am so pissed off
Jim Livengood is the AD at Arizona. And he is a freaking rectal tunnel. God i hate him.
Miller said no, i mean Utahs head coach? SERIOUSLY!!
that would be like the replacing nate mcmillan with mo cheeks again.. good programs dont take on BS coaches. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
i swear next thing i know they will be hiring Ernie Kent. I hate this. Pisses me off to no end
