Next Season The Blazers Need To... with Poll

First I'd like to say I'm exceptionally happy with the Blazers this season even with the loss to Houston.  Say what you want about the calls & that if they went out way in games 3 or 4 we win the series (and you're probably right if you think that)

The question now is what do the Blazers need to do in the off season/during next season to win in the playoffs.

One option is of course to make a move for a sharp shooting defensive stopping point guard ala Kirk Heinrich.  Doing this we probably have to give up Outlaw and Blake/Sergio.

Another option is to pick up some vets at various positions who play tough hard nosed defense & have a reputation for this so we can get some of those reputation based calls in the playoffs that Houston now enjoys.

Or we can basically stick with what we have & Nate pushes them to play as physical of defense all next season so come playoff time we have a reputation as a physical defensive team.

where's the webster option?

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Again that would be the 3rd option wouldn’t it. working to build your reputation.

By the way I don't think

that we have to trade Outlaw in order to det Hinrich. We’d be under the salary cap and won’t have to take back equal salaries. I think we’d be better off signing Bibby and Anthony Carter and trading away Blake and Sergio.

You’d rather have Bibby/Carter than Hinrich? I don’t even like Hinrich that much, but I wouldn’t prefer those two.

Pine Option?

blake riding bench would be optimal

Bibby is shooting really

from 3pt land this year and so is Carter. Both players will be able to help Bayless to improve , Bibby for offense and Carter for defense.

What about Jamal Crawford?

Good friends with BRoy, PG who can shoot… Lots of talent, kind of a ball-hog.. Takes pressure off Roy to score… May be in Donnie Nelson’s dog house.

Travis Outlaw is Mr. Clutch

To play the negative nancy: Not a point guard but an undersized shooting guard, streaky, bad defense, expensive.

Congrats to Houston. Beat LA!
Going forward Blazers have 5 draft picks, and Rockets have none :)

Crawford has a early termination option

so might be able to sign for a decent contract.

by VinnyB on Apr 30, 2009 9:50 PM PDT reply actions

He is and so is Bibby who

I believe is a better version of Blake.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
