I’m glad it worked out the way it did. Next year, changes are coming and the Blazers will be a better team.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Ya got Wade, Paul, Kobe, and then Roy. 3rd best SG, 4th best G overall I’d say.

Let's see

Kobe and Wade are pretty clearly 1 and 2. There is a whole mess of people fighting for 3 though, Allen, Iguodala, Johnson, and Roy of course.

I can easily slot Roy third, though I AM biased.

Old, bad defender, no long range game

And we don’t need a guard who posts up. We got Roy, LMA, Oden, etc.

He’ got a good mid range and post up game. Underrated for his career. Bad fit for us.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Hinrich is nice for defense

But he doesn’t solve any of our problems on offense.

Life is not by chance. Basketball is life.

by blzrfan on Apr 30, 2009 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, he's a better version of Blake

Can create more, quicker, etc.

And we don’t need to fix our offense, we’re amazing offensively and as Oden develops we’ll get even better. We need better defense and, if we can, a better secondary playmaker.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:40 PM PDT up reply actions

The offense is really mirage...play a team that boxes out and good D

The Blazers become an isolation jumpshooting team.

Life is not by chance. Basketball is life.

by blzrfan on Apr 30, 2009 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I think we're only scratching the surface of our offense

And we’re flat out dominant most nights offensively. That ain’t the issue. Defense is what’ll win us 60+ games and get us further in the playoffs.

No other team has a Battier and Artest and a center the refs protect. This is a bad matchup for us, our offense is still pretty good.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Well said.

Though I have concerns about the offense, but that may be alleviated by a few more clutch shooters (a vet or two maybe)

by Timmay! on Apr 30, 2009 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I would love for a secondary playmaker

A better one than Blake, but that is easier to get than a better perimeter defender of guards.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions

If we weren't playing the Rockets

We woudn’t worry about our offense. Even if we played the Lakers, Cavs, etc. Horrible team for us to play in the 1st round. Our offense is still really good, just a bad matchup.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions

The time for grinding it in to the paint is over

we need to be using our 3 shooters and try for some quick scores. no reason not to play for what could win.

you know what? we got 6 more games than last year. This team will be better next year.

we went into the toughest matchup we could’ve gotten in the postseason, and fought against incredible odds. The rockets are a sneaky, dirty veteran team and we took them to game six. It’s like Byron Scott said the other day," there aren’t any shortcuts." I wish we could’ve done better in this series but this will make the blazers hungrier next year. This is not the end, it’s only the beginning.

If only Houston didn't choke their last game of the season

One game really matters.

We’d face a hobble Spurs team, feel happy, and avoid the Rockets altogether.

Oh well. Thems the playoffs.

But, it shows how easily we could be enjoying playoff success, except for one game.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:51 PM PDT reply actions

Or if the Blazers would use their home court in the 1 game.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

u dont get better by beating up on trash teams

If you keep beating up the trash teams...

…eventually you get beaten up by a strong team. Or win the title.

by Timmay! on Apr 30, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Winning a series wouldn't have helped us?

I wanna beat another team at their best, but I’d also like to win a series. If Houston wins the SW, we don’t play them and this 1st round wouldn’t be such a downer.

Just saying, one game can really make a difference in the perception of our team. If we played the Hornets, Spurs, etc, we’d be happy as clams.

A bad matchup is a bad matchup.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, it's totally fine

This season was always about education. It’s still frustrating since we coulda won game 3 or 4, but this was a big learning experience.

I just wish the lessons could continue for one more series.

DAMN MATCHUPS! :-)

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions

yep

we got the worst matchup possible in the first round. i would rather have played any team other than the L*kers in round 1. We would easily have beaten NO, SA, or Utah. I think we take Denver or Dallas too.

Houston and us were evenly matched. Experience was the difference (game 1, game 4, game 6)

How did you guys win that?

on the long run I think going against the rocket was the best

Life has a way of making what seems like the worst possible scenario turning out for the best

Losing like this is a great learning experience. Now we know our guys will not be happy with themselves, at all.

I expect a great, great season next year from all of our guys, and especially Oden.

Greg Oden needs to have a more featured role in the Portland Trail Blazers offense come next season.

Unfortuantely, though, the Trail Blazers are coached by an individual who’s always been adverse to having a pivotman be one of the main focal points on offense. Next season, Nate McMillan will be finishing off his five-year, $30 million contract that he signed during the summer of 2005. If things haven’t improved in 12 months, then I hope Kevin Pritchard has Jeff Van Gundy’s # programmed into his cell phone.

by AK1984 on Apr 30, 2009 8:51 PM PDT reply actions

He's mentioned wanting us to go to Oden more

I’ll be shocked speachless if Oden isn’t a key part of our offense. Nate hasn’t had a pivot man like Oden, ever.

by Mortimer on Apr 30, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Aldridge isn't a focal point of the Blazers' offense?

The Blazers haven’t worked with Aldridge on his low post game the last two years?

And Jeff Van Gundy? Really?

by cloudydays on Apr 30, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions

LaMarcus Aldridge isn't a pivotman, okay.

Yes, Jeff Van Gundy is a better head coach than Nate McMillan.

by AK1984 on Apr 30, 2009 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Besides, if we tried to give Oden a more featured role

A) Our offense would be worse

B) Oden wasn’t able to stay on the floor at all this year

by cloudydays on Apr 30, 2009 8:57 PM PDT up reply actions

As a result, the coaching staff should spend more time developing his game on offense ...

this summer. Look, a ballclub doesn’t win a championship trophy with a defensively soft, high-post manning power forward — who, by the way, rely mainly on their face-up game offensively — as its second option. On the contrary, it takes an efficient back-to-the-basket scorer who can get the job done down on the low block. Without a shadow of a doubt, Greg Oden — instead of the overrated LaMarcus Aldridge — is the man for that job.

by AK1984 on Apr 30, 2009 9:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep

and the coaching staff will develop Oden more…

by cloudydays on Apr 30, 2009 9:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Regardless of how we view LaMarcus Aldridge, it's a given that Greg Oden needs ...

to be unleashed next season. While I may consider Aldridge to be the second-coming of Charles Smith, others may envision him as the perfect third wheel beside Oden and Brandon Roy. It’s to each their own, though.

by AK1984 on Apr 30, 2009 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions

LaMarcus performed pretty well in the postseason

you have to give him that.

fair enough.

It's time for one last offseason, one last time to prune the roster. It was a great ride to 54 wins, and our playoff loss exposed the deficiencies we must address. In KP I trust.

by Cablinasian on Apr 30, 2009 9:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree. This team needs to be more post-centric come next year. If we're not going to go into the paint with the ball

then what is the point in having anyone besides pryz? Oden will not develop as a scorer until he is used regularly on the offense.

by Tyler Durrden on Apr 30, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Are you Serious?

Mcmillan only got us 54 wins this season. That’s not impressive or anything with this young team.

by RipCityManiac on Apr 30, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions

If the Trail Blazers don't improve upon this season next year, then Nate McMillan should get the ...

axe in the summer of 2010. Anything less than at least one playoff series victory during the 2009-2010 season will be a disappointment in my book. I have high standards, though, so maybe that’s just me.
