In Response to OKC article about what Bucher said.

View the article here: http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2009/04/the_future_blazers_and_thunder.html

And my "comment" (which was a response that was too long and thought it might be a good post):

Bucher is one of the few national sports media cats I've always liked. Let's remember that this is an OKC beat writer's interpretation of what he said.

Brandon Roy is, by definition, already a superstar. Didn't Bucher himself write something about putting Roy up there with Wade, LeBron and Kobe?

Let's run down a comparison of accomplishments...
BRANDON ROY:
First Year: ROY, +11 wins, DNQ
Second Year: All-Star, +12 wins, DNQ
Third Year: All-Star, +7 wins (8 games to-go) Playoff Berth (team's first in 6 seasons)

KEVIN DURANT:
First Year: ROY, -12 wins, DNQ
Second Year: +1 win (8 games to go), DNQ

AND I believe KD will be more of a free-agent flight risk than LeBron or Wade will ever be. I don't care how great the fans are, nobody wants to end up in OKC and the team will have a tough time attracting/keeping free agents.

Ummmm, yeah.

And did Bucher really say Russell Westbrook is already guaranteed to be their point guard of the future as the writer implied? Has he proven that he can lead his team to big wins in big games? Sure, 15, 5 and 5 is nice but it's on a bad team during losing efforts. If Westbrook's stats have proven him to be the answer at PG than Zach Randolph has proven to be the answer at PF. We all know that ain't right. I'm not saying Russell won't be someday. But you can't say it's a sure thing he will be someday.

I'm happy to let the W/L column vs. toughness of schedule do the talking here and for the next 5-10 years.

Let's hope Nate plasters the OKC article on the white board tonight and plays some catchy rap-music.

GO BLAZERS!

this is crazy

ive read some crazy articles. some very biased articles. but this is the worst. thunder better in a few years than portland? is that serious? yeah, and i bet that the kings will be too. gotta love that kings core and chemistry better than portlands. westbrook is a great player. but he has little to no point guard skills. thunder doesnt have a point guard or a big man. and roys not a superstar? wow. 3rd year: rookie of year, 2 all stars, from 21 wins (year before roy got drafted) to 47 and counting this year, many game-winners and clutch shots. not sure what else roy can do.

2011-2012

most wins portland -20
                               oklahoma city +20

After reading this comment, I decided to vote "No Way!" myself.

No one should be alone.

Of all the things that can be expressed in the printed word – love, hate, fear, joy – true humor is the one that is the most difficult of all. Sarcasm, for example, is an art of delicate subtlety. Yet too many people wield it as a bulldozer – loud, smelly, ugly, and destructive – and think they are being funny.

KD is a great player

And that OKC team is set up for some solid building. Westbrook has been fortunate to receive the one thing that makes a young PG great: playing time. I could see their big 3 sticking together and making some interesting challenges to .500.

What I can’t see is them winning a playoff series.

Seriously...who cares!

Let’s take care of business tonight and then focus on beating out Denver and Utah for the division title. We’ll worry about 2013 when it rolls around.

Some thoughts

I just hope they do not get either Griffin or Thabeet as that would make them better, although I see a lot of Beasley in Griffin. Beasley would have much the same stats as Griffin if he had stayed another year as well and last years draft class is turning out to be one of the best in a while, this years not so much.

Although Green is playing PF right now so if they do get Griffin, where does Green go? Maybe trading Green to get homeboy Griffin if they do not get the 1st pick? Green cant play SG and Durant takes all the SF mins and if Griffin comes on, where does Green get his? So it is not as rosy as it may look.

With LaMarcus coming on as of late and showing signs that he is arriving and flickers of Greg “getting it” these guys are proven commodities.

I also do not get how they can compare experience as our starting lineup has only 22 seasons combined as opposed to 13 to OKC’s starting lineup. In addition our bench only has 15 seasons to 35 for OKC (the numbers switch a little if you put Greg in the starting lineup as Joel has 8 more years than Greg.)

We have comparable NBA experience and talent and yet we are hoping for HC and they are hoping for the 1st pick.

Eh it's just a silly article from someone trying to be different, I like the quote about Westrbook and how very few PG averge 15, 5 and 5

Our very own Steve Blake, a middle of the pack PG by anyone’s imagination, is averaging 12,2, and 5 this season. With 1.5 TO per game compared to Westbrook’s 3.4

That’s enough for me to realize it’s a crappy article from some desperate NW-hating OKC cowpoke.

Here was my comment on the Oklahoman

Blazer fan here. No disrespect to the Thunder or Thunder fans, but this article is a joke. It’s true that the Thunder have a very bright future, but they have a long way to go to catch up to the Blazers. The Blazers were in a similar place a few years ago, but they have climbed out of the lottery and become a playoff contender with a very talented and deep, young roster. The reason they have done this is largely because of Brandon Roy, who has shown what a true superstar is in terms of both ability and leadership. Durant is a great player but he is not on the level of Roy yet. Hopefully the Thunder will get there as the Blazers have and there will be a strong rivalry between the teams, but right now the Blazers have proven that they are the team of the future. Don’t forget that Greg Oden has yet to play at his full ability, we only saw glimpses of what he will become.

I just wonder...

what chemistry problems our core guys are supposed to have. From everything I have read it seems that this team is supposed to have the best chemistry in the league. I just don’t know where the idea comes from that this team has worse chemistry that the Thunder. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

ric

is right on the money, plenty of capspace,a scoring machine*pg star of the future.i love okla.city future.as for pdx well ilove roy and aldridge is really coming on.rudy is fearless and pryz is tough.the rest of the roster you can have these guys.too nice and soft for my taste.too many good guys, while the chosen 1(durant)is an assasian ready to explode.

come on fatty

this is lame even for you. OKC is waaay soft. We are talking Kristic, Livingston, Mason not to mention Robert “I am taller than everyone” Swift the weakest 7 footer to ever play the game. I certainly wouldn’t call the skinny as a rail Durant a “hard” player. Both teams are young and soft in places, with gritty individuals. Ric is not right on the money and neither are you on this one. Durant maybe an “assasian” but so is Carmelo and I haven’t seen him doing much with his soft team. It wasn’t until they added billups for toughness that they even became a WC playoff team. Durant is unproven hopefully he will get there but until he gets some "W"s he wont have.

the way

aldridge is comintg on now, imagine durant*roy*aldridge=unstoppable in the western conference.instead well roy bails them out from time to time, and if they don’t jump out early then they struggle to win.and also teams dictate to them early not the other way around.the team with the best chemistry in the league is the cavs.salemorguy have you been wacthing the cavs dude.now that’s chemistry.

by fatty on Apr 3, 2009 2:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

It's time to move on.

We do not have Durant. Looking back it pointless! Should we have taken him? We will know in a few years. If you are right, we will get you a nice big cookie. If you are wrong, then good for the Blazers.

Your insistence on bringing up Durant over and over again reminds me of someone who thinks their best years were in high school and keeps talking about them. Kind of like the creepy Uncle on Napolean Dynamite who is dillusional thinking that if he just got off the bench, he would have been in the NFL.

What DO we have now? We have the 2nd youngest team in the league with the 2nd best point diff in the Western conference and looking strong heading into the playoffs? (with a bunch on nice guys too, whodathunkit?)

What DO we have? We have had a team that has continued to improve at huge rates for 3 consecutive years, despite players coming and going.

As far as the chemistry? If you qualify the Cav’s as having the best chemistry based off of their pre-game skit. That would be a rather sophmoric way to come to a conclusion. If it is based off of their record, sure.

When you were retorting SalemORguy over chemistry, he never said the Blazers had the best chemistry. He just wanted to know how someon could sa we had a chemistry problem. Is that antagonism for the sake of antagonism on your end?

why?

because they do a stupid fake pic thing during player intros?

i'd rather imagine...

Oden dunking on people in the playoffs. Wait, I don’t have to imagine it, I can watch it on TV!

If we drafted Durant

There would be a Roy vs Durant major rift on Bedge. Like Sergio vs Bayless times 1 million.

SB Nation would have to create a separate blog

Just for Durant vs Roy Fan Posts if that happened.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

Whatever

The young Bulls are the NBA’s next elite team. Wait scratch that, the Utah Jazz are the NBA’s… Hold on no, The Blazers are the darlings of the… Nevermind, the Thunder, yeah that’s the ticket. Yawn.

Buff that O’Brien trophy up real nice because Roy’s lips are going to be all over it.

It's more than diculous. It's REdiculous

Yes!

Since I made this post I get to give out the “best comment award”. You, my friend, are right on the money. The whole world of sports, especially basketball, is more focused on the future than the present. It almost ruined college basketball and the NBA simultaneously untill Darth Stern threw down “Order 19”. Who’s next? Don’t care. I’m a Blazer fan.

this has been a message from: "The People's Alliance to give Greg Oden at least a couple of seasons."
