Junk 4/3 No Topic
The topic for today is...does the Junk Drawer need a topic??? The Junk Drawer was expressly created as an outlet for people to converse about off topic items of the day (basically a playpen for Tom and his flights of fancy). Sooo... that being said why is it that we usually have a topic (even if it is a off-topic topic). I find this strange. We even have had people create Blazer related topics ....that is just wrong. Sometimes I have needed the junk drawer but one isn't created but I didn't create one because I didn't really have a topic. Tom has a list of topics but has decided (quite rightly) on a self imposed moritorium of writing junk drawers. So I guess it boils down to this....was this topic better than me just pasting the word "filler" 75 times. Vote in the poll below.

Hey, I just saw the Denver/Utah highlights...

No, and neither did the Nuggets...'til last night.
May I remind the jury that green is the dominant color of a certain loathed team from back east.

This whole NBA green campaign is absurd
Henry talks about it a little today.
But what seems a little weird is the tone of this campaign is that the NBA is giving us tips about how to be more environmentally responsible? The NBA, which still glamourizes people tooling around in Hummers and Escalades, and has players changing uniforms every time they get sweaty, is telling us to carpool and spot-treat our stains?

i agree
“Let’s use extra energy to make shirts, jersey’s, produce commercials, etc. to make people aware of recycling…”
Maybe they need it in the midwest where they don’t really recycle but not in denver or portland do we need to be told to recylce.
the nuggets loved wearing the alternate colors, w/ special green headbands and shoes, “go green” is a fashion statement, at least it looks like that to me.

To evaluate further
was this topic better than me just pasting the word “filler” 75 times
The principal theme of the two topics is the same. You just broke it down so the artistic/social commentary is more overt. To write “filler” 75 times would be like a dog turd framed in an art gallery – there’s a message there, but you have to think about it a bit.

I've been doing a little research trying to figure out what to make for dinner tonight
What d’ya know – Oklahoma has an official state meal:
Fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecue pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas.
Way to go folks — the only green vegie in your meal is fried okra. Corn, grits, AND cornbread? And how did the strawberries get on there? They look suspiciously nutritious.

What happened to rollerblading?
I don’t know if I’m going to date myself here, but I remember when rollerblading was really, really cool. Showing up to Bob’s Skating Rink and Arcade with a pair of neon green wheeled roller blades was like the middle school equivalent of arriving on a Harley wearing a leather jacket with fringe: instant bad-a** status. Now, rollerblades are like the fitness activity equivalent of getting your right ear pierced.
I’m not upset. I just want to know how this happened….

I think the Blazers need to acquire Richie Frahm to be better than OKC in the future
http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=richie_frahm
Shoots .455 from 2 and .457 from 3 this year, plus about 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Went to a top university (Gonzaga). Has international experience. Is 6’5’’. And a young vet. Rudy can’t beat that.

so far, I’ve had pasta and peanut butter toast and apple juice.

I never eat a big enough breakfast
Cuz I always have morning sickness cause I am pregnant (well, not “sickness”, my belly just never feels too good in the morning).
Today, had some eggs with chopped onions, and I just now made 2 nice burgers with Trader Joes 80/20 beef cooked in Yoshida sauce and pineapple juice, topped with a not-too-thick slice of melted cheddar and a pineapple. Ranch on the potato bread bun.
I shouldn’t have had the bun, but oh well. I’m a good boy.

Oatmeal + Orange Juice.
None of the apple cinnamon, or maple and brown sugar trash either. Just good old fashioned oatmeal!
by Zaig on Apr 3, 2009 3:42 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
i had a streak where i had oatmeal everyday for breakfast.
for about a 3 month period of time….it just gets boring after a while.
i tried the packets, just the good old school oats themselves, old school oats with my own added rasins/cinnamon/maple brown sugar……everything. Just couldn’t get into it.
I’ll go oatmeal once or twice a month now…that’s about it though.

I hardly ever eat breakfast either
I have been having a hard time with meat lately as well. I’ve never been one to feel sorry for slaughtered animals (for food, that is) despite my immense love for them, but I just feel weird about eating meat these days. It is a strange sensation to have that flesh just sitting in my tum tum. Not only that, but it just doesn’t taste too good anymore. And I’ve had it all too, buffalo, alligator, deer, all that jazz. Just doesn’t do it for me these days. I decided to stop eating meat at 14, but my mother made me stop after a few months because she said I needed to eat meat to finish growing or something weird like that. I grew an additional five inches but who knows if that was coming either way. Anyhow, I’ll go without meat for short stints every now and again but I mostly eat chicken or turkey if I go for something meaty. I don’t avoid meat to be snobby, I avoid it because I honestly enjoy other stuff. Is that so bad? I’ve rambled but my main point is I can’t stand meat with fruit or nuts. Your burger sounded icky is what I was trying to say.

I eat meat, just not much anymore and mostly chicken or turkey if I do
I’m 21 and get my protein, no worries. Plus my extended family cooks well and I can’t say no to empanadas and all the other traditional stuff they make so I could never be completely vegetarian even if I wanted to.

i eat a lot of chicken/turkey as well
usually if i have red meat it’s in tacos….absolutely love tacos. otherwise have chicken, turkey, and fish quite a bit. we used to get elk….we lived in the hills and it’s what everyone did. now we live in the city and beef from the store doesn’t taste good compared to the yummy taste of wild, strong elk.

That is one of the biggest myths about not eating meat. It is actually really easy to get protein from other sources. Or if you dont like eating a lot of vegetables you can get it from Powder at GNC.
I am not real big on meat anymore either, there are more and more studies linking Red Meat to increased cancer rates and heart disease.

Man, I hope that the Portland Trail Blazers invite Robert Swift to summer league and training camp.
Obviously, I’d rather bring in Rasho Nesterovic as the team’s third-string center next year; yet, if that’s not a possible option, then Swift could potentially be a useful addition at a one-year, minimum-level contract.

Depends on computer
Ethernet’s probably the way to go. It’s more likely to work on a given random computer (no #$ USB modem drivers), it pegs the CPU less if you have a good ethernet card (USB is notorious for hogging CPU), it doesn’t take up a USB port, etc.

mmm….not too sure what to do now. I got it working, usb….for the computer I’m using now (my original trusty rusty) I was using a ethernet cable, but given my lack of length on the usb, I had give up my ethernet cable for her net in her room…. (I just got sick of sharing) ….
guess it’ll have to do until I get me a nice router….(I think that’s what I need)
I’m old fashion and have issues with wireless tech. ;) (or maybe just paranoid)
