Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

My biggest gripe about griping about the officiating:

It's a classic boy-who-cried-wolf scenario.

There is nothing surprising or one-sided about the officiating so far.  Houston's had a strong defensive philosophy of contesting without fouling for years now.  They consider it a blown defensive stand when they give up free throws.  Our guys foul every time they think they're beat.  We consider it a blown defensive stand when we give up a dunk/layup, and since we're not good enough defensively to stay in prevent interior scoring without fouling, we end up fouling a lot.

Have there been some bad calls/non-calls?  Yes, but I've seen plenty of examples on both ends.

But making all this fuss now, when the officiating has been pretty fair according to pretty much any perspective other than total homers, yall lose all credibility when a horror show like the 2000 WCF or the 2002 WCF happens.  When we get royally screwed in the WCF against the Lakers in a couple of years because Bennett Salvatore lets Kobe live on the line but lets BRoy get mugged, yall are going to have zero credibility when yall rant and rave about it, since you're crying wolf this year.

Your opinion is like Sheeds opinion after the game.

“Both teams played hard.” We know that one team played harder or smarter or got some lucky breaks, thats why they won. Refs blow calls both ways, but it is more on the Blazers side. I saw some dumb call made, but most of them went against the Blazers. Im not crying about it now, just pointing out real facts that I saw.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

I get it...

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Can’t anyone see how many freaking posts about the same subject there are already in the side bar? Please, pick one…ANY OTHER ONE post talking about the same subject and post your feelings there.

Even if this is meant to be a joke..take it somewhere else.

Why? Why? Why?

Can’t people just get over it and realize this site is for everyone to post what they want? Like my dad used to say — “What, you think this is YOUR freeway?!?!?!”

He also used to say “This is a parking lot, not the Indy 500!!!” but it’s just not the right context…

Well.

Dave has mentioned it, and it is a little obnoxious. Some people have posts worth reading that get shoved down to the bottom of the page because of all the people writing their own dumb post about why they hate/don’t hate the refs. There is way to many on the subject.

So, thanks, but actually this site is to discuss several other things besides the refs.

Now you're doing it to me. I never said the site wasn't to discuss other things besides refs.

And this particular ref-related post isn’t anywhere near like all the rest.

PS – I’ve also heard Dave and Ben asking for the policing of the site to be left to them. “So, thanks..”

And you love them?

Do you work with them or they pay you?

Nah, I hate the refs too

but I hate them because they’re incompetent, not because they’re biased. I just don’t see the bias thing happening, but I sure do see tons of terrible calls and inconsistency on both ends.

But the key is it’s on both ends. It’s nothing like 2000 WCF or 2002 WCF or 2006 Finals.

Griping about griping?

Isn’t that a little hypocritical? This is a site for people to talk about the games isn’t it?

My biggest gripe about griping about griping about referrees...

is that it’s even less interesting than griping about referees.

However, there have been ten posts complaining about the refs, and I would tend to agree that it’s a little excessive.

Your point shouldn’t be “the refs have been fair,” though, because that will fall on deaf ears, and besides, you’re wrong. The point is, ok, they’re calling a foul every time Oden or Przy sneezes – let’s recognize that and MOVE ON. The Blazers should’ve won those games anyway.

Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
