Gameday Open Thread 5:  9:00-close

Here is the final thread of the evening.  You can talk about the closing moments of the game and reflect on it here afterwards until we get the recap and media row report up.

As I set this to auto-post many hours in advance I realize that I'm not ready to talk about the end of the season yet.  I hope the Blazers will finish strong.

quick thought keys to the win

- Rudy’s early energy and offense in the first quarter
- LMA’s scoring quarters 1 through 3
- Oden’s 4th quarter Defense
- Brandon’s 4th quarter comeback after pretty abysmal (for him) first 3
- Blake and Outlaw both made big plays late

I'm so happy that Oden played so well those last 5 minutes

I was really getting depressed for a while.

Really happy for the team that they don’t go out losing 3 in a row and eliminated on their home court. Its going to be awfully tough to win game 6, but hopefully Houston will get tight and feel some pressure.

If it comes down to it, I’d much rather be eliminated in game 6 on the road than in game 5 at home (duh).

4-2 is a lot more respectable

but i think portland can win game 6, they have figured out what they need to do to win against the rockets

We are DUE for JUST ONE GOOD GAME IN HOUSTON DAMMIT

We coulda soooo easily won in Houston the previous 2 games, so I got hope.

Houston has to feel some pressure, since they’ve never been out of the 1st round in the franchise’s entire history (these are the Rockettes, the 90’ Rockets team actually moved to New Orleans and became the Hornets).

I really think the national media narrative now is going to be

‘Will Houston blow it again?’

Even without Tmac, that stigma will follow them. Despite Nate’s remarks, I think all the pressure is on Houston right now. The danger is that the Blazers feel good about winning this game, and if the sledding gets tough in the next game, that they think they gave it their best shot and can call it a season.

I think the former scenario is more likely than the latter.

but the blazers just outlasted the Spurs and the Jazz in the playoff, this organization has come a long way to be able to achieve this. really happy about it right now.

And some Houston fan, who by the way didn’t even cheer once until Houston’s comeback, was apparently talking trash by responding to every time I clapped by yeling louly to no one “Yeah I’d REALLLLLLY hate to be Yao! Yeah! Ha!” over and over.

What does that even mean? LOL…

Still too premature to talk trash

You’re still down 2-3 in this series with game 6 in Houston. You’re also 0-4 there this season.

No, the referees didn’t cost us this game, 16 TO and bad shooting did that. But 12 Portland fouls to 24 Houston fouls seems a little one-sided. Nate sure did a great job whining. Way to try to win a series.

by UHoustonFan on Apr 28, 2009 10:44 PM PDT reply actions

I seem to remember Adelman got the same fine

Admit it, the series is closer than you hoped/expected. The Blazers could have won game 3 or 4 if they executed down the stretch, and now Houston fears they will. Then game 7 is up for grabs.

by Norsktroll on Apr 28, 2009 10:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Oden Needs Minutes

Seems like when there was about 7 minutes left in the game, Oden finally got his rythm and starting playing a normal game. Nate should just let him play ’till he fouls out instead of benching him.

by Sheedwasright on Apr 28, 2009 10:44 PM PDT reply actions

I totally disagree...

Pryz can only give you 30-35 minutes, and those non-consecutive…

If Oden fouls out in 10 minutes (which is quite possible), then you are looking at extended minutes for Channing Frye.

We won tonight and Channing Frye was a DNP-CD.

Coincidence?

I think not!

has won every game this series.

Plus we will know if Portland is pushing the tempo or slowing it up, if the refs let stuff go, etc.

best analysis ever on O-Live

Rudy = Aladdin:

Seriously, he straight steals the ball like Aladdin used to steal bread.

It looks like he faded up the sides of his Spanish jew-fro, which has made him a straight theif, as well as visionary with the ball. I think he can run point once the ball is up the court.

All I know is.

Game 6 is going to be a death match.

by JmarcL4 on Apr 28, 2009 11:05 PM PDT reply actions

For sure.

The whole backs against the wall call, couldn’t describe us better right now. You know somewhere in the back of Houston’s minds the, can’t get out of the first round jinx is lingering. At this point the young Blazers team is happy to be here, not nearly as much pressure on us as Houston. All I gotta say Houston is better not drop one more cause it lights out at that point.

by JmarcL4 on Apr 28, 2009 11:10 PM PDT up reply actions

We are going to need an early start

In game 6. If we get it crackin early who knows what could happen. Ron Ron might start showing his true colors and hoisting up craziness, everyone knows this guy is one panic button away from being back to former self. It’s all about applying pressure now.

by JmarcL4 on Apr 28, 2009 11:17 PM PDT reply actions

For sure

I have felt like this has been the key all along, Houston isn’t good at playing from behind. Especially in the fourth quarter.
