One More Guy

I'm not even sure who he is.

I just remember the world champs, and the utter magic of that team. For them it certainly started with Walton, a healthy Walton, and his passing, and the dervishes that whirled around and from him, on half-court outlets and back door bounces to Gross. But it couldn't have happened without Lucas, with his sheer will and his preseason promise to Jack Ramsay, "we are going to win it all," a true promise rather than a preseason cheer.

There's startling talent on this team: more than enough to win with just a little more seasoning. It's one guy, probably around 27, focused totally on a title. A lot of Lucas in the guy, but probably smaller, a point guard not because that's our greatest need, but because it's one of the only two positions with which we should tamper.

Lucas also defined our need, years ago, when an announcer referred to him as a star. I don't want to be thought of that way, Maurice said, because stars don't always win games. "I want to be thought of us 'a player'', Lucas said. "He's a player--that's the ultimate compliment."

One guy, one player. One step away.

sorry.. it’s just soo excessive right now.. I can barely stand the excessiveness around here right now..Also.. I don’t know that we are one (or more) new (or developed) player(s) away or what.. does it matter? We’re still playing.. so let’s just keep playing. Did I mistakenly read your last post as saying that we are still in it (we just need to take it one game at a time) and this post as suggesting that we are already done so we should just start planning for the future?

My theory:

Contribute to other people’s work before posting your own. 1:3 ratio anyone?
I’d also rather see someone have to accumulate some comments before allowed fanpost status. Then again, I’m pretty resistant to new people. Have them pay their dues in the fanshots, going and finding links.
