Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Okay, I hate when people talk about bad officiating and blah blah but this current state with Greg Oden is seriously so ridiculous that for me it's ruining the game everytime.

I think it's starting to get to the point where we expect Greg to be hunted by some stupid call and tonight during game 3 we witnessed one of the worst ones yet and I'm just tired of it. I want to see our #1 pick actually get to play and I would love if the refs would allow him to. This is not about other calls with other players, this is regarding how Greg Oden manages to pick up some of the most ridiculous fouls consistently in the nba. I fully admit when someone drives into Oden he does usually foul them, but his off the ball fouls are absolutely insane which is usually what gets him into true foul trouble and makes him go back to the bench.

The thing that has bothered me the most is how people have forgot that Oden can dominate but since he is so sucked into foul trouble even when he isn't being physical he is not allowed to stay in the game. So it's like sometimes I forget about Greg Oden and when he comes in I expect him to go right out and not get his chance to play.

Share your opinion, I'm starting a new website called www.freeoden.com which will have more information and general blogs and opinions. I'll let you all know when I am done with it.

As always watch the video in HD by clicking the HD button by the volume button on the video and use fullscreen to see the full details.

HD is still processing when I put this video up so it might take a couple minutes for it to be available. Please rec so more people see this ridiculousness.

You summed it up pretty well

We can’t blame the refs for periods of inconsistency and bad basketball, but man..

Honestly, when I saw that live I thought it had to have been a timeout and not a foul.

One of the worst calls I have seen in a while. Just disgusting.

On a positive note Oden had a great game and was actually involved on some pick and rolls which ended HUGE

Agreed.

He played great. It is encouraging to see him moving so well, regardless of the fouls.

This isn’t about calls in game 3, this is about calls made on Oden throughout his rookie year and still continuing in the playoffs that are known to be physical. Oden could of had an even better game but was denied to stay on the floor longer.

insane

I was watching espn. I didn’t actually see what happened, just heard the whistle and then saw Oden coming out. Now I can only say this is totally insane after watching your clip.

Best thing about this is that Yao didn’t even need to flop to get this absolutely phantom call. where amazing happens, huh?

I kind of wished someone would've made a highlight clip of all the ridiculous foul calls on Oden this year

Honestly, that was one of the worst.

I fear for the day Paul Allen is no longer the owner of the Blazers.

Can someone make a clip of *ALL* the fouls called on Greg in the post season thus far? If a good chunk (as I suspect) are called like this, maybe someone could send it to JVG

maybe he’d say something about it on the air.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".

So frustrating...

It looked like the ref was just looking at Oden and waiting to blow the whistle as soon as he touched Yao. I’m getting absolutely pissed off by these refs for calling bull crap like this. It’s no wonder Oden averages 9 fouls per 48 minutes when they call stuff like this.

Can anyone find the foul...

There was one play where Oden went up for a reboud and Yao ripped it out of his hands. They called a foul on Oden. Does anyone have that replay?

I remember that one as well

Greg actually had inside position, Yao grabs the rebound from behind and Greg’s hand is on the ball, Yao swings the ball through and they call a foul on Greg….

Pretty bad.

I've been called for similar

But I was equally frustrated then, a highlight reel of the fouls by Oden would be great but work heavy. You’d need every game and then trawl through play by plays for times of fouls. It would take days of work. And thaat’s only if you have the games available.

Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit.

by The Pirate on Apr 25, 2009 3:35 PM PDT reply actions

If the refs called that everytime, it would take

12 trips down the floor for both centers to foul out. That contact happens on EVERY play.

Nice job on the video.

Yao stated in the press conference that Adelman complained to the league

about us manhandling yao and him not getting any calls. Nate needs to complain to the league on Oden fouls. Nate needs to step up and defend his players, not just these fouls but also during the game.

by BarelyLegal on Apr 25, 2009 6:34 PM PDT reply actions

That sounds like a huge wining snowball getting bigger and bigger.

You would think the NBA could police its officiating and at least make a consistent product. This needs to happen from the top down not the

 other way around.

Hey this is maybe a little over the top, but with how popular the Blazers are right now

if you put a solid video together and took it to our congressional delegation, they’d be foolish not to capitalize on the opportunity. Honestly, if you really feel like something’s wrong with the NBA and have proof, that’s your best option for getting something done. Stern would be idiotic not to listen to those people.

Seriously, though, refs just suck. It’d be bad for the Blazers if something like that happened. It’d make Oregon look whiny. Unless the proof is solidly against Greg (meaning you’d have to show that there aren’t bad calls the other way), then this is a really bad idea.

Can’t wait for officiating to catch up with Oden’s size. That’s probably the biggest factor here. Oden’s much more physical than your average big NBA center. He’s more physical than Yao by a long shot, and he’s bigger and stronger than Howard. It looks like he’s clobbering people on the post much of the time. Refs have to make sure that Oden’s not in there beating up on people. Part of their job is to protect the players, and if a player comes in and is smashing people, they’ll call enough fouls on him to get him out of the game (I happened to learn this last night while ….. gambling with an official.)

...

I’m working on getting stats and gathering actual evidence that doesn’t imply just whining and bias. it’s really not that hard to make a convincing case as there has been multiple incidents this year where he has gotten into foul trouble with gathering 1 foul per minute, just finding all that and putting it in order is the hard part.

I’m not doing this to try to make things change in the playoffs, just next year when the regular season starts again I would like there to be some attention about Oden and questionable calls that have been publicized enough where people can use it as an example and then it could blow up any moment.

It’s just kind of pathetic, it seems like centers brought in as #1 draft get shafted on this. Guards are able to break out rookie year than a center, then you have people going around saying Oden is a bust and we should’ve got Durant but the biggest reason (besides injuries) Oden doesn’t have the numbers he should is because of fouls.

Some games it’s deserved but the weird part is his off the ball fouls and how frequent they are.

terrible..

That type of contact happens on EVERY trip down the floor. If you are going to call a foul on that, you’d better damn well call it every flippin time down the floor from that point on at both ends of the floor!!! Ron Artest rides B. Roy like a freakin’ horse and they don’t blow the whistle, but there are calling this crap?!?!? That is a complete injustice IMO. No excuse for that kind of officiating and there is nobody that can justify that call.
