Refs expected a foul so they called it that way
The NBA: Where Amazingly Bad Officiating Happens.
Agree
Travel. Battier just slipped. Surprised they didn’t call the foul on Oden from the bench. Maybe Bavetta’s eyes are going. Hope not.
Travis Outlaw fan from the beginning.
Screencaps 9.9 and 9.8 seconds. He falls before LMA reaches him. Could have become big.

but all in all, if Blake would’ve paced himself we could of probably got a good shot off and never had this moment.

Battier slipped on his own
I think the foul was called when he was on the ground.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
And not only that
Wasn’t the foul called on LMA? He clearly was trying to get the clock stopped at that point. I think the Ref’s did the Blazers a favor in that scenario.

It's a bit confusing
Is slipping a travel? Did they call LMA for tripping Battier, which he didn’t? Did Battier even fall out of bounds with the ball?

Battier slipped on his own
And that’s really not a travel since he hadn’t put the ball down on the floor or established pivot feet Norsk.

I take that back
I forgot about the 2 bounces that Battier did take. Still, really he just slipped. The only reason to call a foul is because LMA touches Battier. Otherwise, the clock should keep moving.

My point with regards to the favor is
There’s no guarantee Battier would have been called for a Travel. LMA made a quick attempt to hit him on his leg or shoe and that’s what drew the foul.
Or, that’s the way I see it.

its not a travel
unless he tries to get up. at least that is what the rules say.
since the blazers didn’t even utter a word of complaint, we can assume it happened in their favor.
Exactly
It was done to help the Blazers. And since Battier hadn’t traveled, there was no reason to stop the clock UNLESS LMA fouled Battier. Which, I guess you can call a mock slap of a shoe a foul. Sort of.

LaMarcus might touch him on the arm. Batum never reaches him.
But I think Bavetta instantly called the fall as the foul, which would be wrong. And the ball hobbles off Battier out of bounds. Still slightly confused, but I wouldn’t make that too big of a story. I remember last year we had that controversy about a foul on Barry.

Norsk
I think Battier threw the ball cuz the whistle had blown. He purposely threw it.

if that was the case then he was clearly out of bounds, he fell and his elbow and head were clearly over the line. If no call then it would be out of bounds blazer ball.

If I were the Blazers
I’d be very angry that Blake took that 3. What happened afterwards is just a part of the NBA, and it is what it is. It works for and against every team.

You sir are right. That was my point as well. Sure he might of traveled and the ball went out of bounds but Blake should’ve paced himself for the LAST shot and got a better look instead of air balling it.

You are missing the best shot
the ESPN broadcast showed a slow motion, closer up replay of the play. Anyone have that on DVR or something?
I rewound it and watched several times after the game was over. There was clearly not a foul, and in fact it appeared he passed the ball out of bounds.
In the end, it doesn’t matter. We let it get that far and didn’t make plays when we needed to.
How did you guys win that?

on my TV you can clearly see it not being a foul and he threw the ball out of bounds, no argument there. But as the situation of the game goes it just bummed me out on the poor selection by Blake.

IMO...No Foul. Ball passed/slipped out of bounds.
A no whistle there gives the Blazers ball out of bounds.
Nobody contested this because:
-they were trying to stop the clock anyway, with a foul, so it was the right thing to do and with the assumed desired result.
-in retrospect i think the blazers will see that no-foul would have been more beneficial.
Like you said though we had our chances before this. These kinds of plays are just the breaks sometimes.

Also I posted this at thedreamshake.com since they keep bringing up game 2 when apparently Rudy tripped over his foot.
I took screencaps instead of a video because they show it better. Remember they are running and the incident happens really close to the scoreboard so it was hard to see it.

The first incident was Lowry running with Rudy and his foot goes right under his causing the initial trip. Many of you said Rudy tripped on his own foot, this clearly shows otherwise.

Once again Lowry’s foot goes under Rudy’s which causes him to fall down, also notice that Artest is closer to Rudy so Rudy tries to avoid Artest and once Lowry’s foot goes under Rudy’s he falls.

This one is hard to see but this is the ‘contact’ between them, there was barely any which probably didn’t deserve a foul but the tripping of Rudy did.
I hope to god this ends the whole "RUDY TRIPPED ON HIS OWN FOOT" argument.

Battier: TOTALLY. BLOWN. CALL.
Thanks, Bavetta.
Open to playing some ping pong (uh - table tennis) with anyone who's interested. cdd37@yahoo.com
Ok so Battier tripped... But... Why did LMA go for the foul even after he was slipping?
Why didn’t he just put his arms straight up like “I didn’t touch him”… Does LMA need to think on his feet a little more, or did it really just happen so fast that he couldn’t react?
