Can we bench Outlaw now?
I say "we" because, I do refer to the Blazers as "we".
I have wanted Outlaw benched for most of the season. If I were coach I would only put him in to close out quarters/games and we need a shot or a distraction. I don't want him sniffing the court the rest of the time. If you are a one trick pony and can only do this, then you better be able to come in like Steve Kerr and already be HOT.
Here's TO's per game stats after 3 playoff games.
min: 28.33
fgm/fga: 9-30 (30%)
ft's: 3-6 (50%)
reb: 2
ast: .67
blocks: .67
to's: 1
smart plays: 0
Everyone states-- "how are you gonna get your shot back Trav?" How about-- "How else are you going to help this team Trav?" According to the numbers he is not helping with aggressiveness to the hoop. Thats 3 trips to the line in 85 total minutes. He's not helping with playmaking for others or by rebounding either. 2 rebounds in 28.33 minutes per game? Thats 6 rebounds in 85 minutes Can we finally bench this guy?
What's the hold-up? Travis Outlaw...the BIG leak in the hose.

Let’s bench you instead.

Bill Nye played one-on-one with Nate

"Death is not final," Gita says. "If any man thinks that he slays, and if another thinks that he is slain, neither knows the truth. The Eternal in man cannot kill: the Eternal in man cannot die. The soul in man is neither born nor does it die. Weapons cannot cut it; fire cannot burn it; water cannot drown it.

Rudy is amazing to have survived not only the Ariza flagrant but also several attempts by snipers to end his life (look for it at second 30 and again later. Credit to Norkstroll for this incredible documetary footage!):

I dont read a lot of Canzano

Cant we all just write a post about how the refs, and not our poor execution, cost us this game.

Hey I dont even like Canzano
but I will say he was tough with the Blazers in the bad years and made them accountable for quite a bit of things. He did not go easy on them and they responded IMO.
But for the record, I dont like Canzano.

are you sure
the terrible records and some really questionable personnel decisions did lead to the downfall of the Patterson era. I am sure that people would like to take credit for their imagined part, but I would argue that this was Paul Allen seeing that Patterson was not making things work and decided to make changes. I would estimate Canzano’s contribution to be minimal.

good god loyal blazer! you've lost ur mind!
YES! Lets bench Outlaw right now and screw up our entire rotation that has helped us win 54 games this year! Thats a great Idea! Thats exactly what a good coach would do, completely panic under pressure! Its obvious that you dont handle stress very well, Outlaw isnt the reason we lost today, this was a total team effort. And your Canzano comment is beyond stupid ( yes lets fire Nate cause he took and team that won 21 games to a team that won 54 games in three years, thats a great idea!)
We once again fell behind by double digits, and when we were knocking on the door in the fourth we made stupid mistake after stupid mistake that lead to turnovers.(I dont think any of that was Outlaws fault), even after all that we still almost beat Houston. ( or at least sent it to overtime)
I’m sad we lost, but i actually feel pretty good, i think today showed that the Blazer can handle the Rockets physical style, and that the Blazers are better then the Rockets, I have no doubt that they will win game 4, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Outlaw has a monster game.
you have no vision...
Nate is not beyond criticism either. It took him 72 games to decide he would like to see what the team would look like pushing the tempo.
If he makes that change earlier in the year and limits the negative effect Outlaw had we would have been closer to 60 wins if not more.
You are stupid my friend if you don’t believe a guy giving the team hell in the papers over their actions in the past and holding them accountable had no effect on them. Thats why they opened a full page in the very same paper that he was reporting for, stating how they would “make it better” and win fans back. I will not back down or run scared because you throw a few “you lost your mind” and “that is stupid” comments.
My original post was talking about Outlaw’s production over all 3 games. I did not say he was responsible for this loss directly. He is an overall cancer IMO that does not do this team justice. My post was stating his overall impact on all 3 games. To do well and or win in the playoffs you can have as many good players as you would like— throw in 1 or two players who kill your team and it’s all over for you. Now I ask you— given the stats, am I missing something that would make you or anyone else believe that he has helped this team outside of the 30% shooting?
the 2 rebounds a game? The 1 trip to the foul line per game in almost 30 minutes of action. Am I missing a huge contribution thats not showing up in this lack of stats? Please, I am waiting……Tonights game had many problems with it with many playing poorly— not particularly Outlaw(though he didnt help much) the Blazers were VERY lucky to be in it at the end. I always say if it’s a last second shot that determines a game, you didnt go out and WIN it no matter the outcome.

Who would take his place in the rotation?
That is the “vision” I’m interested in.
It did not take 72 games for Nate to pick up the pace – the team has been effective at a slow pace. Few mistakes, longer possessions, stronger rebounding. It is appropriate to the skills of the players, and also the personality of one player in particular, Brandon Roy.
Our defense picked up near the end of the season, I imagine from the players being more seasoned. That allowed the Blazers to run more.
60 wins?

I would say there are lots of examples
but I thought he had one of the higher BBIQ on the Blazers side of the ball tonight. One thing we were severely missing was decisiveness, and Travis has that in spades. I cant tell you how aggrevated I was with the indecision from every Blazer. Blake penetrates and has set himself up nicely for a teardrop…pass for a covered outside jumper. LMA finally gets good post position…pass for a much worse contested jumper. I think Houston bought a time machine and has us playing like we did at the start of the year, but without the success.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.
But are the above commentators saying Travis missing shots is Low BBIQ?
I just think its a moronic term.

It has been amazing
how much more contact they are allowed to have throughout the series.

Hey refs, if said player jumps into the air and Yaho chest bumps them in the air, Yao has fouled said player!

I would say
that the Travis low BBIQ is something that people have come to recognize over a long period of time and are loathe to give it up. I have definitely said that he has a low BBIQ in the past, but he really has stepped up his game in the past few months and is making some basketball plays. I am very impressed with what he has been doing of late and hope it continues.
I see him doing some things like trying out ball fakes and making the extra pass more and more. I also see him trying to bring the ball up less and less, which is a good thing for us. I have also become more impressed with his defense, as he seems less lost then he has in seasons past. I think one thing that people forget is that by having him at PF also creates mismatches on the other end that can be exploited as well, so that must be accounted for when saying Travis is a bad defender.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

Look at his line tonight and tell me where Batum was a factor
and how could he score if told to? Was he told not to score in the 82 regular season games? He is not polished enough to be a scorer. He is good at spacing and spotting up, and finishing on a cut. He does not beat people off the dribble yet unless they have forgotten about him.

Cost us this game.
He’s not a playoff kind of guy. He’s not a fit on this roster. He won’t be around for the glory years.

well put
“playoff kind of guy”? Would you trade him for anyone on the Rockets? Have any of them won rings? Quite a few haven’t even won a playoff series.
He fit well enough on this roster that won 54 games this year. Bright people considered him a contender for 6th Man of the Year. And he is fun and cool and has really long arms.

woulda lked to see Rudy in the game...woulda left Trout but pulled Blake here and there and let
Roy and Rudy go at it….with LMA and ODEn…thats a force…esp against some of those Rockets sets…..w/o Sergio/Bayless (and I’m not so sure about the "none of the above decision) Blake (prob) played more minutes than usual…? lazy me…not checking…I’d been throwing Bayeless and or Sergio into Yao & Scola’s chest here and there last night…
whatever…miss as many open shots as we did, it’s real hard to win…
Lessons? feed Greg down low…let LMA beat his man to the rim over and over …4 inside possessions for LMA to every one up top…Forget using Greg on the high pick as much…post him every play…
No 4’s or fives shoot jumpers without crashing the boards…your guy is in front of you anyway…AND you are faster than them…if you see three to four white shirts in front of you & 1 black shirt…you can hang around and rebound…
Portland needs to show what it can do….it’s one thing getting beaten – - – a complete ’nother to just fail to be who you are…coaching staff gotta fix their heads
""Look. I can touch the rim on my tippy toes.. " – Greg Oden
