Would Baron Davis have helped?
I hope this is a civil discussion, no need for insults.
I was very strongly in favor of trading Raef and Jerryd for Baron Davis early in the year. As the trade deadline loomed, we could probably have gotten BD for nothing more than Raef and a 1st round pick. Every time I made the suggestion, people were disgusted. I received nothing but negativity for the suggestion. I was laughed at, ridiculed, and told that I was smoking too much crack.
However, now the playoffs are here, and we are getting murdered at the PG position. I LOVE STEVE BLAKE. I root for him so hard. But he just can't cut it.
There is no way Baron Davis lets Aaron Brooks school him like that. Baron DAvis was the story in the NBA two years ago when he knocked off the Dallas MAvericks. The passion and intensity he played with were Jordanesque. He was fat, lazy and selfish this year. But there is no doubt in my mind that the opportunity of a deep playoff push would have motivated Baron to play out of his mind.
My question is, taking everything into consideration, BD's hefty contract, Darius Miles coming back on the books, the Blazers not having a single good expiring contract to trade this summer, and Aaron Brook's absolute anihalation of the Blazers in games 1 and 2, does anyone else regret NOT trading for Baron Davis back in February?

BD to Blazers = short-term pain, long-term pain.
It puzzles me that anyone could think bringing-in BD or anyone like him would help the team, but these kinds of ideas keep popping-up like weeds in a rose garden.

Baron Davis
Provides nothing that we need at the point position, and would not help in the slightest in this particular series.

um, no.
Before we drafted Brandon Roy, I was really hoping the Blazers would go after Davis.
I am soooo glad it didn’t happen now. He’s a great player and a fun guy to watch, but not a winner or a leader.

Um cant say he is not a winner. At least they beat Dallas in the playoffs, and they were 8 and Dallas 1.
But how many leaders do you need on this team, if we have 1 like Roy?
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

I will give you this much:
BD is a better idea for Portland than Nate Robinson.
But I have a multitude of reasons why I wouldn’t want to see this happen, chief among them Baron’s bloated contract.
Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

Baron Davis is my winner for Least Valuable Player this season.
Elton Brand is a close runner-up for the dishonorable award, although Davis gets the nod for his horrendous play the entire season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Without question, Davis’ craptastic play overall was a disgrace considering the huge contract he received this off-season.
Oh, and by the way, Mike Dunleavy, Sr. also earned dishonorable award, with his being the 2008-2009 NBA Worst Executive of the Year.

It wasn't quite a no contest battle, since Golden State Warriors President Robert Rowell did a ...
horrible job neutering Chris Mullin and letting Don Nelson run roughshod over the organization drunk with power and laziness. While Mullin isn’t the brightest basketball operations department head in all of the NBA, he still isn’t as out of it as Nelson.

Baron Davis doesn't care anymore.
He is getting his big fat paycheck and that seems to be enough for him. It is too bad because he has a boatload of talent. All you need to do is look at some of his Youtube clips to see that. Plus he NEEDS run and gun offense to be effective and with Portland’s turtle pace, he just would not fit in. Nate is a hands on coach, not unlike Dunleavy which is why it isn’t working in LA (amongst other reasons).
Can I get a headband? One for my peeps, one for the fans in the really cheap seats, one for my momma, one for the mayor, and if you wanna get down with the players, YOU GOTTA GET A HEADBAND!

If Mike Dunleavy, Sr. was fired and Donald Sterling hired me to replace him, then my first task would ...
be to dump Baron Davis at all costs. Even if all I could conjure up for Davis was a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the expiring contracts of Brian “The Janitor” Cardinal and Mark “Mad Dog” Madsen, my mind would be at ease with just having managed to cut bait with him. My second task after Sterling had already fired Dunleavy, Sr. the general manager would be for me to fire Dunleavy, Sr. the head coach.

I'd then deal Chris Kaman to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Earl Watson and Chucky Atkins ...
— whose contracts next season are expiring and a partially guaranteed, respectively — with Atkins being waived immediately after the trade.
During the 2009 NBA Draft, I’d hope to win the lottery be able to nab Blake Griffin with the 1st pick or Ricky Rubio with the 2nd pick. Yet, if it didn’t work out that way, then I’d settle with Jordan Hill in the 3 to 6 range.
Next, once the new fiscal year begins on 7/1/2009 and the moratorium is lifted the following week, my main objective would be to ship out that overpaid black hole in Zach Randolph. The Chicago Bulls — which could desperately use a low-post scoring threat to include in its frontline rotation of Joakim Noah, Brad Miller, and Tyrus Thomas — might be a possible destination for Randolph.
I, therefore, would offer John Paxson a trade of Randolph and a future first-round draft pick (via the Minnesota Timberwolves) — which is top-ten protected in 2010 and 2011, as well as unprotected come 2012 — for the Jerome James’ carcass and nomad Tim Thomas, who’ve both got expiring contracts.
Afterward, I’d look to hire a young rookie head coach — such as San Antonio Spurs lead assistant Mike Budenholzer — to take over the reigns for a team at the start of a massive rebuilding project.

I think Davis has some more in the tank, but he is a shoot first inefficient PG who shoots a low percentage
I loved watching him play in GS, but he’s not the kind of point guard we are looking for and when you consider his age/injury proned season and huge salary the move would be an extremely high risk move. Our style of play also doesn’t fit his game either, it would probably be a chemistry nightmare. If we go after a PG it will be someone who can distribute, shoot and play defense.

Davis was awful this season
Its an open question as to whether he would have cared/tried if he had been in Portland. A focused, in prime Davis would be awesome here, but that player doesn’t appear to exist any more.

OK, so what do we do about the PG position?
We have no tradable contracts (unless we trade Przybilla, but the city will riot if that happens).
Raef was the perfect trading chip. Now, its Jerryd or bust.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a good starting point guard?

I think the Sixers might possibly be willing to give up Andre Miller,
but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t demand some serious talent in return. Like Bayless, for example.

Tradeable contracts
Raef (sign and trade – insta-expiring deal)
Travis
Sergio
Blake
Virtually everybody on the roster’s tradeable, it’s just a question of whether you WANT to trade them.
The deal I would love to see? Sign-and-trade Raef, Sergio, cap space, Travis, and/or Martel for Hinrich + Deng. Not sure how the numbers work out, but THAT would be a sick team next year:
Hinrich/Blake/Bayless
Roy/Rudy/
Deng/Nic/possibly Webster
LMA/Freeland (or rookie, preferrably Blair)
Oden/Przy
Probably too much money for the Blazers to take on, but that would be a championship contender, IMO. Deng and Hinrich couldn’t get it done as stars, but as role players, they’re GOLDEN.
Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

I dont know if I want Hinrich for Outlaw.
Blazers Only have Roy, LMA, and Outlaw who can create their own shot. Blake shoots as good as Hinrich. Look if Outlaw steps up in this series with Rockets we can win the series. We saw how hard it is to win, even when Roy and LMA play out of their mind. But if Outlaw breaks out Rockets are done. I dont really know About Deng he is injured kind off.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

We do nothing because it's the smartest thing to do.
There’s no one out there who is a significant enough upgrade over Blake:
- Worth taking-on a big contract.
- Worth the loss of one of our potentially great young players.
- Worth sacrificing some wins next season while he and the team learn to play with each other.
- Who is actually available.
- Who won’t require at least two seasons to learn how to play point guard in the NBA.
- Who is worth the risk to team chemistry.
I wouldn’t be shocked if KP found someone, but I think we will see Blake, Sergio, and Jerryd again next season, and maybe for a long time.

Who do you constantly
dislike all the current Blazers? You think Oden was the wrong choice, Roy cant pass the ball, Bayless sucks, and you pulled I love Steve Blake, BUT, and dislike LMA and Travis as well.
The only posts you write on here are things that you dislike about the team and it seems to me that it is more trolling than anything else.
You just throw stuff out there and have no stats to back it up as well. Brooks is not going to hit 5-8 3pters every game, and over half of his points last game came in the last minute of the game after it was pretty much salted away.
You would want us to not have one of the best C prospects, and to have the Z-Bo of PGs, and to trade Joel to the Heat and LMA for Amare with little to no regard for chemistry and continuity of the team.
You must be Bob Whitsett cause you do not have a degree in chemistry, thank god that KP is in charge and not you as the team would be like an NBA Live 09 team, only that stuff does not work in real life.
