Open up RG for next two games?
In addition to my post about "Road Court Advantage" I was wondering what it would take to show the next two road games at the Rose Garden for the fans?
If we could get 10,000 plus, imagine a live video feed of the crowd shown to the Blazers in their locker room in Houston to pump them up?
I keep hearing DJ's calling out fans to step it up, so why not do something that no other city does for their team? Just because their on the road, it doesn't mean Blazermania can't happen in Houston!

What would be even better
Since it looks like the weather will hold, is to do a big screen in Pioneer Square like they did for the World Cup in 2006…

I don't see why they wouldn't
Then it would save the hassle of trying to get a group together at a bar :)
This would be awesome.

How would we get the ball rolling on this?
Should someone call the RG? Blazers management?
Who would we call about Pioneer Square?
I’d make some calls today if we needed a volunteer.
Pioneer Square is likely out
Since that costs a fair bit of $ but call the Blazers front office to ask about the RG. Our game next Tuesday is the next scheduled event at the RG so the court should remain set…
Proud member of Duck nation!
I tried calling the front office earlier
but couldn’t get through and got frustrated. I now realize that 45 minutes after game 5 tickets went on sale probably wasn’t the best time for them. Has anyone else tried to call?

Could be a great fundraiser for PPS too. $3 to get in, donate 1/2 to the schools and 1/2 to the RG to keep the lights on. Win-win.

I was hoping for that last year when I was in Boston for the draft...crickets
But the outdoor idea would be great for you. That is so much fun for soccer matches, sitting in a beer garden or being outside on the street is the next best thing to being at the game.

Tickets supposedly sold out in 3 minutes...
but, from an end-user standpoint, the server crashed at 10:02.
RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!
I got on at around 10:15 after a meeting and saw they were all sold out.
I’ll be parked in front of the TV again…

it's not a fiasco.
10,000 people wanted a shot at ~2000 tickets.
and when u factor in the average request being 2 or 3 that’s 1 ticket for every 10 requests.
no different then when major concerts go on sale through Ticketmaster. It really sux you didn’t get seats, but don’t make it out to be more than it is.
Should have prepared and created an account early, put in the CC# and everything.
plus they had phones open for people who encountered server drop during payment (like myself) so I’d say they did an excellent job.

I'd rather they just do a random lottery.
Helps spread the tickets around to different folks who would be appreciative of the opportunity , and ends the crush of fans trying to log in within 1 minute of ticket opening.
If you want guaranteed playoff tickets, you need to have season tickets.
glad I got season tickets next year
because having playoff seats this year has been fantastic…can’t wait until Tuesday when the Blazers come back to wrap up the series…fingers crossed…

This is a great idea
but it probably would have needed planning weeks in advance.
You have to take into account getting employees to staff the RG (concessions, security, ushers, operations, video techs) the cost of paying those people to come in, whether or not to charge people to come in to the Rose Garden, etc.
If someone thought of this a few weeks ago, this would have been easy to plan. Unfortunately it’s hard to get something like this going on 3 days’ notice.
That being said, I’d be al for it if they pull it off. Maybe later in the playoffs.

but there should be enough time to plan for game 4

staffing would be a huge problem at the garden
they have to fill those posts at the doors and escalators and what not…

Hell yes
"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''
This would be huge
make it the $3 entry and concessions normally priced I would go that that for sure. If it went to Portland Public Schools that would make it a huge coup for the Blazers and the Rose Garden street cred wise. Not to mention that they would make a mint on concessions and it would give some of the event staff more hours further stimulating the local economy. Simply put a brilliant idea!

slightly OT, but an interesting question
would any of you pay money to go watch the game in your local movie theater?
no

better than just a normal movie theater

absolutely
although if they put it in some kind of crazy imax or 3D (i think i remember something about the nba putting the playoffs in 3d in certain cities) something or it had super couch seating (like some of the theaters in Cinetopia in couv). i maay pay (something small) for the novelty of the experience.

WOW!
Glad to see so many responses to my original post, what great enthusiasm!
If the RG admin folks won’t make it happen on short notice, I wonder if Pioneer Square really is the way to go?
Nothing fancy for now… just a couple of screens and an ass load of Blazers fans!?
I’m sure the downtown business district would like the extra revenue, not to mention a great way to show off the energy of Portland and its sports fans!
For Kenny, who has the best seats in the house!
how about
I bet the fine people at McMenamin’s would be open to opening up the Bagdad theater to this idea. They could make quite a bit of money on the deal, and the admission is already only $3.
ever listen to any sports broadcast?
the whole “any rebroadcast strictly prohibited”
It is illegal to charge to watch a free tv feed, only because you have a bigger screen in your establishment.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
McMenamin’s shows Duck football games at the Mission Theater.
They don’t charge for it. They just make a ton on food and drinks. Why couldn’t they do the same thing with Blazer games?
I've gone to Mission for MNF
They just can’t charge for it, and that’s what I was telling the other poster.

nevermind, they’re already booked up for the bridgetown comedy festival. too bad really, that would’ve been a great venue.

Movie Theatre < Good TV at home with friends < Giant crowd downtown or Rose Garden.
movie theatres aren’t good for sports cause it’s dark and theatre-ish.
