Junk Drawer April 22: Game Four Party

I'm writing this at 6:30, hoping that the unspecified 10:00am is EST not PST. I've been up all night waiting to buy tickets, terrified my alarm will not go off. Game 5 will be the first game I'll be in town for since late 2008. [edit: bummer, tix not selling on eastern time]

Before that there are still two games in Houston. Partially because I missed BEdge Night, and also because I love a good party, I propose a Blazers Edge road game party for Sunday evening.

Sunday's game starts at 6 and is on TNT (plus KGW I believe; haven't been in PDX recently) so any bar worth a damn should carry it. Alternatively smaller groups could meet for potluck/BBQ parties. Weather forecast is calling high 60s so that is an option.

But all of this is dependent on us to organize. The only restriction to what activity, is proximity to TVs. Please share any ideas you all might have in the comments!

[edit:] So elated right now. just secured my ticket for game five. coming down from Vancouver BC this weekend. If you're going to game five, where are you sitting? also anyone who's interested in a Sunday afternoon get together email me: lazersailer@gmail.com

A poster on Sactown Royalty had a brilliant idea: The NBA NIT. There is just not enough basketball during playoffs

http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2009/4/20/846210/the-nba-nit

Tip of the hat to your genius idea. I’m sure David Stern is readying this tournament for next season (or latest after the next CBA is negotiated).

I really like that idea.

It could be expanded 16 teams and include a couple D-league teams, as well. I’m always up for more basketball.

Party! Party! Party!

I propose On Deck Restaurant and Bar or The Agency.
But we gotta get this going early so someone can call and make a reserve!

Just want to take this opportunity

to retract my earlier whining about the referees. I still believe that Saturdays game was horribly officiated, but I needed to see the Blazers play more crisply to recognize how much of it was on the Blazers and not the refs.

I don’t buy into the Rockets whining about the refs yesterday either as I had gripes about many of the calls against Portland as well as being mystified (and silently thrilled) by some of the calls for Portland as well.

If only I could go back and edit all my posts with a, “P.S. quit your whining, shenanigans,” I would gladly do that, but this seemed like a reasonable solution.

Too bad about Dikembe, that’s a bummer.

Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

The atmosphere of a bar is brilliant during sports events

But a room full of die hard Blazer Edge fans? Miles better.

Kinda Weird Question

I figure a lot of people here are both roughly my age (mid-twenties) and had read Boys’ Life, the boy scouts magazine, growing up.

I was recently telling someone about a back-pages column that centered around a boy detective who would help prove the school bully was guilty or whatever. It was at pretty much the very end, just before the daffynitions and Tom Swifties and the like.

I thought his name was Headley Case, but I did a few internet searches yesterday and found absolutely NOTHING. I feel like I’m in one of those movies where you go to pick up your dry cleaning and there isn’t even a building there anymore.

Anybody out there know what I’m talking about? Can I get a witness?

I think I know what you are talking about

But I think that you are combining a couple of different things. Wasn’t Headley Case the subject of a short comic in SI For Kids? He was some nerdy kid who would use math and whatnot to throw a javelin further than his muscle-bound tormentors. However, there really isn’t a lot about him on the Internets for verification about this comic. All I found on the Google was this.

Also the boy detective sounds a lot like Encyclopedia Brown. It seems like you are combining those two characters into one.

But I could be wrong. I never was a super active reader of Boy’s Life.

ARGH!!

after fighting and fighting with trailblazers.com i ended up without any seats. I had the dang tickets in my cart!!! and then the network times out?? What type of junk is that. :( so whoever is sitting in row O seats 6-9 in section 324, I had those seats… if only for 5 minutes….

From the back of Travis Outlaw's Franz card: Travis leads the team in monstrous thunder dunks, wins awards for post game interviews, and often gets extra points for degree of difficulty.

From the back of Greg Oden's Franz card: Nickname: Jaws. Has an insatiable desire to tear rims apart while cruising the open court, and was once interested in using head-gear for his profession.

tell them what happened. It happened to me too, and they were able to find my seats and secure them over the phone.
It’s worth it if you have a phone available, cause they will have to call you back!!

HEY MORTIMER

I know you’re not around much these days because you’re busy with wedding planning and out-of-town guests and all, but I wanted to be the FIRST (yeah, it’s a little lame as firsts go) to wish you the best as you jump into life as a married man. I’ll be making Cuban food and sending happy wedding thoughts down the I-5 this weekend.

I hope you and Mrs. Mortimer have a rich and happy life together. Me, I’ve been married for a while and it’s been the best thing ever. True fact.

Anyway, I hope you do a search on your name and see this.
