Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Looks like Rockets fans think their team got screwed in Game 2. Sound familiar?

Why do NBA fans almost always seem to whine about the referees?

As it stands, Houston and Portland have each won one game apiece fair and square. That, therefore, should mean no complaining on both sides, pure and simple. It sadly doesn’t work that way, though.

wonderful writer

Wow, this guys really knows how to make his point clear. His argument is well stated with many strong, well-thought out points. He writes with so much color and enthusiasm, it’s hard not to side with him, you know?

Basically, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, and is seeing the game from a very biased angle. The refs were very consistent with calls in the paint. How many times did Roy drive the lane, only to be met by Yao with body contact, which threw him backwards? Every time, without fail. Any calls made? Nope… the refs made it very clear that you would have to be hacked to the ground for a foul to be called. So, both stars weren’t getting regular season respect. The difference is, Roy handles the pressure better in this game and Portland comes out with a victory.

Sorry bud, but you can’t place this on the refs. They called a solid game. Nothing will be perfect… accept it.

The argument is that Roy doesn't deserve those calls when he initiates the contact

Sometimes that might be the case, often enough it isn’t.

That stop and go by Roy is straight sick. I'm calling him "The Flu" from now on. - Wendell Maxey

Yet it is in the rulebook that even when a player initiates contact...

and the defender is within the circle under the hoop, the foul is on the defender. Except apparently in the playoffs. And that’s what I don’t understand…..why are there such huge differences in what’s called in the relgular season and what’s called in the playoffs.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
