What a stupid name

"The brownies,'' Fernandez said after the game. "The brownies are good for me to make three-points.''

You are correct

Why feed this terrible monster on a national stage?!

"I don’t have the first clue who he is talking about, because all I worry about is Jerome." – Jerome James, on comments by coach Nate McMillan about Seattle SuperSonics players being selfish.

Terrible name for a blog

Makes it sound like Blazer fans identify only with Bowie.

I fear for the day Paul Allen is no longer the owner of the Blazers.

He needs to reproduce soon so we have an heir in succession.

by blzrfan on Apr 21, 2009 11:44 PM PDT reply actions

I have to agree that the name of the blog is awful

Might as well call it “Blogging the team that traded away or passed on Michael Jordan, Moses Malone, Chris Paul, Jermaine O’Neal and Kevin Durant.”

Terrible.

However, the content looks like its got potential… and as a member of the TrueHoop network that pretty much guarantees it’ll be worth a look.

One of those things is not like the other.

For Portland, passing on Kevin Durant was a good thing.

by AK1984 on Apr 22, 2009 12:31 AM PDT up reply actions

I know I'm the resident Kevin Durant hater and my opinion is somewhat biased in this case, ...

but his horrible adjusted +/- numbers tell a story of how putrid the guy is defensively. That, along with how the team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics played well in his abscense, gives me the feeling that he’s physically incapable of being a franchise cornerstone for a championship contender.

Of course, offensive-minded wing players shouldn’t be the foundation of a ballclub. Other than the 1974-1975 Golden State Warriors title squad that was led by Rick Barry, I can’t think of a team that won it all while anchored by a offensive-minded swingman during the past 50 years.

by AK1984 on Apr 22, 2009 2:40 AM PDT up reply actions

This is the one time we agree

Durant is a chucker and it’s plain as day. I compare him somewhat to Mcgrady. Silky smooth, nice shot and a hunger to chuck. But win? Not so much….

I support all things Blazer related

but it is hard to imagine any other blog with a fanbase as rabid as this one.

by kdfloc on Apr 22, 2009 1:09 AM PDT reply actions

yet, ironically

the title ensures that Bowie is on everyone’s mind when they go to the blog.

"It’s a good ol’ fashioned Rip City beat down!"

Yeah, that'd be similar to if the old Seattle SuperSonics magically returned to the Pacific Northwest ...

and someone subsequently started up a blog that’s titled “Beyond Bennett” or whatever. Yet, if the Beyond Bowie authors think that its title is a selling point for their blog, then so be it.

When You want something in the worst way.....That's what you get the WORST!

TrueHoop Needed a TrailBlazer Blog…and this is what they found….please die quietly and maybe they will realize that ESPN doesn’t control the world of sports.

I'm sure Henry & Arnovitz know how to evaluate blogger talent, but on first look it's a bit weird
  • The Bowie years were not the worst in Blazers history, so no real need to leave those behind (and they are long behind)
  • The authors live in LA and Brooklyn. About as local as if I created a blog with Mortimer
  • “Handelman remains one of the lone holdouts that consider J.R. Rider a ‘misunderstood intellect’”. What?
  • The design is really nice, although the company behind it seems to specialize on lawyers, but good job
  • I never heard about this blog before now. Did they have a different name before somewhere on blogspot?

Well, good to see that the ESPN TrueHoop family now has a Blazer blog – and Dave or Ben didn’t leave us to start it :)
I’ll see what they come up with over the next months.

funny you mention Mortimer...

I immediately wondered it is he who is the LA guy.

Can it be?

But I like to be here. Oh, I like it a lot! Said the Cat in the Hat. To the fish in the pot.

Beyond Bowie -- Why We Chose The Name

Hey, Guys —

This is Erik Barmack (1/2 of the BeyondBowie.com team), and I just thought I’d chip in a few thoughts here:

1) We chose the name (for better or worse) because we know that there’s already great Blazer blogs out there with Blazer-specific titles, and we wanted something a little smirky and throwback-ish.

2) We love BE. I read it every day, and we’re not trying to ignore the greatness-that-is-BE.

3) Ultimately, BeyondBowie will succeed or fail based on whether we’ve provided something different in this space. To that extent, if you have suggestions/feedback, feel free to email me. We hope (over time) to prove our worth.

Thanks for explaining. The name is catchy...

Even if some fans might find it a bit unfortunate to be constantly reminded of Bowie vs. MJ and because the comparison is coming up again ad infinitum for Greg. But yeah, it’s an interesting name and better to understand and remember for a national audience than say RamsayRamblers.com

Mittsabishy:

If this is about getting paid, the tax-man won’t have anything to pick over.

For the love of the game, man (or, at least, the love of the Blazers): That’s why we’re in it.

And you can bet that if our posts suck, Henry will pull us.

So at the end of the day, we’ll have to stand by whether we’re bringing a new voice to the Blazer community.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
