I’m confused by the way? Are these NBA refs or High School refs? The 5th foul on Pryz (bumping his back into a pick) and the 5th on Oden (the Yao offensive foul of trapping his arm) were two of the worst playoff calls I’ve ever seen.

GREAT run though to get the lead back!

yeah

How can anyone say Adelman is coach of the year when you see Artest jacking up threes when Oden, Aldridge and Przybilla are in foul trouble… Yao Ming only 6 attempts?

I mean coaching comes down to three things (in order of importance):

- Instituting the optimum system for the players you have (sets, rotations, etc).
- Getting players to operate the optimum system.
- Motivating the players to execute at the best of their ability.

Adelman didn’t succeed at #2, unless he really believes that Artest jump shots are the best strategy, in which case he is failing at #1.

M, period. Fresh, comma.

Thank you for introducing me to the blazers...

I sincerely mean that. I never dreamed I would fall in love with a b-ball team but because of you I did and it’s so great to see them in the playoffs. :)

He looked about ready to break out tonight

ya

I felt we looked way better with Rudy on the court. It helped that Batum and Outlaw played poorly, but when Rudy was in, I felt like there were a few more loose balls, a few more long passes etc by Houston.

Well, that was an exciting game.

On the face of it, I’ve got a fifty-fifty prediction that it’ll be either Portland in 7 or Houston in 6.

by AK1984 on Apr 21, 2009 9:53 PM PDT reply actions

so much depends on how we play in Houston, I'm certainly nervous.

It could still be Rockets in five

Since this was primarilly a game of Roy, it's more then possible

thow Aldridge had his moments and looked good with the stats

THANK THE LORD

I really don’t think that the Blazers have the mental edge. Hopefully getting the win off their back will give it to them.

Lakers aren't exactly known for their defense

I think what Roy did against the Rockets is more impressive. Dwill also has 6 TOs.

I fear for the day Paul Allen is no longer the owner of the Blazers.

He needs to reproduce soon so we have an heir in succession.

by blzrfan on Apr 21, 2009 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions

According to one defensive efficiency metric, the Los Angeles Lakers have a top-five defense.

http://tinyurl.com/ctb5uc

I, however, tend to agree that the Houston Rockets have better wing defenders, although neither Kobe Bryant nor Trevor Ariza are slouches by any stretch of the imagination.

by AK1984 on Apr 21, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

the Lakers are a very good defense

Not as good as Cleveland, Orlando or Houston (or Boston with KG), but they are very good.

by jksnake99 on Apr 21, 2009 10:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Deron Williams is a solid point guard, but he's putrid on defense.

I still can’t believe that even up to last year some insane Utah Jazz fans on RealGM were trying to argue that Williams was better than Chris Paul. That’s the delusional nature of homerism, though.

What a difference a game makes !

That win sure hit the spot.. analysis sure to follow…
Blazers no longer some gum stuck to the bottom of Yao’s shoe.
Our team can breathe again. On to Houston.

man... wait til next year and oden starts to get some calls and stays in the game

he is one big dood… he was manhandling yao in the post… and i LOVE the fact that he won’t take crap from anyone. joel has been a GREAT influence on greg this year.

by kdfdawg on Apr 21, 2009 9:59 PM PDT reply actions

Weird stats

Only shot 11 3s but made 5 of em. Houston shot 20 3s and made 7 of them. 2 being Brooks bombs at the end of the 4th.

Roy only had 1 assist

Awesome game...scaring me for the next one though.

And check out DreamShake…they can’t handle our refs.

by BlazerGal on Apr 21, 2009 10:05 PM PDT reply actions

Why do people from both fan bases seem to incessantly complain about the referees?

Unless something truly egregious happens, there’s more important things to focus on each game.

by AK1984 on Apr 21, 2009 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Because

In the first half we got screwed on calls
In the second half they went through a stretch of some questionable calls. (Although our bigs still all managed to almost foul out)

by Zaig on Apr 21, 2009 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed...Just thought after the last game it was funny.

Refs influence each game. How that is interpreted, and more often commented on then commented on is very interesting to me.

by BlazerGal on Apr 21, 2009 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't why they continue to complain about how Yao gets treated by the refs

He gets away with lots of contact in the paint.

I fear for the day Paul Allen is no longer the owner of the Blazers.

He needs to reproduce soon so we have an heir in succession.

by blzrfan on Apr 21, 2009 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It goes both ways with big guys in the paint, with my preference being that the referees call ...

it loosely on both sides of the ball. Heck, some feisty play down low makes for a more entertaining game.

by AK1984 on Apr 21, 2009 10:14 PM PDT up reply actions

The problem is that is not often called evenly on both sides.

Loosely on both sides is great…when one side gets the call and the other don’t you’re going to have complaining. It’s all relative.

by BlazerGal on Apr 21, 2009 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions

And also...

It’s easy to blame them…you can point out the five times they made the bad call rather than dissect the whole game.

I lean toward the Rockets taking both game 3 and game 4

But never underestimate the Rockets’ ability to lose games in the playoffs. If the Blazers can get hot in one of these games, they can definitely come back tied up.

absolutely right

Houston is the favorite in both games (perhaps 75-25), however Portland has two chances and needs only to cash in one one of them to get back in the driver’s seat.

Using my 75/25 numbers, Portland has slightly less than a 50% chance of stealing 1 of these next 2.
