just man up blazers !!!

that's the bottom line,no more excuses about no experience, the refs are making bad calls.bottom line is,these guys just have to man*up period.all year long i said this team except for a few guys are soft.and on saturday night on the national stage, america saw how soft this team is.starting tonight blazers start pushing back.when a,brooks is driving down the lane, knock his a** down.when artest or v.wafer is pump faking let them feel pain.knock their a****** on the floor.it's called playoff basketball.not cissy ball which your fanbase has enjoyed all season long.you want respect blazers then play with and act like the big boys.start inflicting pain to the rockets, because they're definately gong to do it you.and you fans also have to man8up,stop genuflecting to these guys, and start getting on them for being to damn soft.some of you guys are even more softer than the damn players.especially the media in pdx.and to me that's sad bottom line just man*up.they start doint that tonight and everything will be fine.if not then it's going to be a very long summer in pdx.

didn't even read a wink of this but I'm pretty sure it say's something to the effect that our team needs to play with a desire to whomp on the bad guys...physically and mentally...

litterally making them our lap dogs and them liking it…

I rec’d the post too …. Love me some fatty, just wish he’d get his butt in gear and return to pre self bann form.

I get it fatty

I’m not sure where I will go with it, though. I am going to treat the players with respect when I talk about them, but I’m not afraid to talk about what is wrong with what they are doing or say “Brandon Roy was terrible last night, can we have less whining please!”

For many of us the Blazers have already overachieved, so we won’t hold the players over the fire for not making it further… I’m sure there are lots of reasonable reasons for not being tougher on the Blazers right now.

But I get it. The game is rough, and the refs will give you nothing. Get tough and make room for yourself in the playoffs. Blazers fans, get real about this team and push them to be more than we had planned.

Thanks fatty a.k.a. Brandon Roy.

Sissy ball?

The problem was they didn’t play the “sissy” ball they were playing during the regular season where they were one of the top rebounding teams and started to figure out how to shut teams down towards the end of the year. Sure they needed to see what playoff basketball was all about. Now they have and I am confident they can raise their level of play to that of the Rockets. They got punched in the mouth. Now they need to punch back. One of the questions I do have is whether they will be allowed to punch back.

I looked over game 1 3 times now to see what went wrong.

First Yao got hot and Blazers could not do anything about that, cuz he is too tall to block him. Then Brooks burned Blazers on few positions just going inside. Sp Blazers started to play defense to prevent penetration, and Brooks, Wafer were hitting jumpers with no hand in the face, cuz Blazers wanted to take away the penetration. The other thing was Frye did not do anything positive. He did not bock out 40 year old Mutambo, and the Rockets got some offensive rebounds. Brooks broke our defense down, and even when he missed Thrilla, LMA were out of position to rebound cuz they were helping out, so Yao and others got second chance points in the paint. The rest is history after that. Blazers gave up near the end of the second quarter.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:00 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That means absolutely nothing

Just a silly highlight that doesn’t impact how good Yao or Nate Rob is. People are just blinded by players who can put up good highlights.

by Zaig on Apr 21, 2009 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Highlights are everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yao feers Robinson around the rim because of his freakish athletisism and penchant for the ball.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I must be wrong but...

If one of the greatest strengths of the Blazers is their depth and one of the biggest weaknesses of the Rockets is their lack of depth why aren’t we trying to foul more?

It seems like we should be playing more agressive which would result in more fouls for us and more fouls for them.

Where does my logic fail? What am I not getting?

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:02 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Let me explain...

If your gameplan is to play aggressive then naturally more calls will go both ways. Ask your players to play more physical and aggressive. Seems like slashing to the hoop results in more blocking violations.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sometimes playing too aggressive can turn into offensive fouls, as we saw on LMA.

Have to play smart. Its hard to slash to the basket when Thrilla is not really an offensive threat and Yao can always come out and block anybody going to the hoop. I think smart would be go inside but if you cant get anything dont force it inside. We need to kick it out and Blake, Rudy, Outlaw have to hit open jumpers.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I realize that you will get fouls called on you...

But answer me this…You tell Roy to drive to the hoop 100 times. How many times are charging fouls called and how many times are blocking fouls called? Even if its in a 60/40 ratio against the Blazers it seems like our strong depth would overtake the game.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So Jordan the best player, why did he not do it always? He hit jumpers he found teammates he went inside.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

My initial reaction to that...

- Jordan serves his team best by keeping his bench warmer on the bench.

- Wasn’t Jordan pretty good at drawing fouls?

- Its a “harder” game to play when you want to draw fouls. No one wants to play aggressivly for 40 minutes. 20 minutes though? Thats what the Blazers were designed for.

Does this deserve its own thread?

Roy will be tired by 2 quarter if he just drive inside.

Then there is Yao he blocked Roy too. Got to have a game plan.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even Jordan who was really good at going inside never did it always. He would be injured if he did that all the time

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't mean it all the time...

I’m sure there are coaching philosophies that push aggressivness. I’m just saying the Blazers should rathed up that aspect of their game against the Rockets.

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I get what your saying.

But Roy can go inside 10-15 times after that he will be tired and out of control and thats when the offensive calls get called. I think Blake, Rudy, Outlaw and LMA, and even Batum have to hit some 3. Think about it if Blazers hit 10 3 pointers Blazers are tied and not blown out of this game.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also last game Blazers had more points in the paint than the Rockets.

1-11 on 3 pointer is not going to get it done. Rockets will only gang up on inside players and it will be a long night.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

by RipCity on Apr 21, 2009 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The reason they shot 1 for 11

Is because they could not get any rythm. Especially in the paint. People can point and say “look how many points they scored in the paint though!” But the Blazers looked discombobulated down low the whole night.

No. No....

It wasn’t exageration.

Its the word that describes the setting up of a imagenary scenario that hopefully aids in the showing of a point.

Like, I tried to show you my point by saying “Lets say Roy drives 100 times. How many of those drives end up in charging calls and how many blocking calls?”

I know Roy can’t drive 100 times a game but hopefully it still shows my point.

What is the word?!

by TrentEdwardsHoF2018 on Apr 21, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So you think if Roy drives inside Blazers will win?

Is that your point?

No.

If Oden plays the PG position a multitude of things will happen.

- There will be a massive mismatch with little Aaron Brooks trying to guard Oden on the point.

No...

A 7’ C bringing the ball up the court has never happened in the NBA. The Rockets would be clueless as how to defense it. Then you have play Bayless inside and he becomes a poor mans Nate Robinson. A poor mans Nate Robinson strikes fear into Yoa Ming who gets nightmares of small, quick, athletic types. Oh and Bayless has close to a foot on Robinson so its an even bigger mismatch.

Thrilla, Oden got in foul trouble. Plus you dont want to be in the penalty in the beginning of the quarter cuz then you cant play aggressive defense and they get to the line on any tiky taky calls.

Fatty is right

the blazers need to man up to win against the rockets. the playoffs are all about aggression and the rockets were more aggressive in game 1. the refs award aggression because thats just how it works in the playoffs. yes there were a few bad calls that went both ways, but to say the blazers lost because they werent aggressive due to the early bad calls just leads one to think it was a bad coaching job by mcmillan for not making his team keep playing aggressively.

For the blazers to have a chance tonight they MUST match the intensity and aggressiveness of the Rockets.

It's so nice

that what was a foul 2 weeks ago is not a foul today.

“…because that’s how it works in the playoffs.” True, but it’s wrong. There should be consistent, objectively applied rules in this game. Conventional wisdom, if one goes by the number of times one reads it, says that the games are called differently in the playoffs. Why is this the case? Does ANYONE really believe this should be the case?

the game is called differently in the playoffs

I also find this phenomenan disturbing. Whats the point of having one set of rules for the regular season and another set of rules for the playoffs? Its as jokey as the superstar exception. After Yao picked up two fouls, Brandon seemed to make an effort to attack Yao trying to pick up #3 on Ming. Even Mike Rice repeated the refs are not going to give Roy that call, but what he was saying, is foul or not, the refs are going to swallow there whistles on Yao’s behalf. Why? If it is a foul call it regardless of who commits it. The inconsistent bias is not only a PTB problem, its league wide and top-down, and it’s going to ruin the game for fans faster then a $5 hotdog.
