Roy = L*ker fan

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=12126

Growing up in Seattle, Washington, Brandon Roy was not your typical Seattle SuperSonics fan. Not even close. While he may have had pictures of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, posters of Shaquille O'Neal in his gold and purple adorned his bedroom wall. Plastered them.

Sorry Blazermanics. It's true.

Roy was a Laker lover.

"I was the biggest Laker dude there was," Roy said smiling, leaning against his locker with an autographed pair of O'Neal's size 23 shoes sitting beside him.

The good thing about this team (Portland) is they can grow together and it's possible they can do some damage," Shaq said, while repeatedly calling Roy a "fabulous player".

"It usually takes a team four, five, six years to get that (way). I'm not sure how long these guys have been together but if they can keep these guys together for a long time, they're going to make some noise."

When asked what Portland was missing, O'Neal didn't hesitate.

"Nothing. They've got it."

EXCELLENT Shaq Quotes here

Shaq is wise

Shaq may be an ass sometimes, but he says what he means and he means what he says, I think people respect that he’s no politician. Also, he is usually right.

He is definitely right about these Blazers. They will make a lot of noise in the very near future.

great article.

FYI, you may want to remove it from the post and just leave the link. Dave doesn’t like posting whole articles.

At least Roy didn't say K*obe was his idol. . .

Might have to advocate a trade if he did. . .

Wow. It's a great day to be a Blazer fan.

"Aneurysm".

When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie

I don't know...

Shoulda been a Drexler/Blazer fan like the rest of us… Although, I bet it really wouldn’t have made him very popular being raised in Seattle.

I'm surprised Shaq didn't say "me, they are missing me" :)

But nice to get credit from him.

P.S.: Brandon has said repeatedly he admires the Lakers. And Kobe. Same with Rudy, Nic and many people growing up at that time.

Not surprising

People all over the world tend to be fans of the best players on the best teams at the time. Hopefully we’re starting to make some Blazer fans.

And people say Steve Blake isn’t tough.

Pierce is from LA

Grew up a Lakers fan…..nuff said.

"Both Anthony Carter and Jameer Nelson were downright jubilant in the Magic locker room postgame. Carter said to no one in particular, "Brandon Roy, that man is unstoppable, it's like he's playing NBA Live" and Nelson was cracking on his teammates for not being able to guard Brandon. The kinds of jokes you can make when you win."

Got no issues with Shaq

I absolutely hate his style of play, but it’s not his fault that the NBA allows it.

I really don’t mind his personality either. He is arrogant as can be, but he was also the best player in the NBA for half a decade, and now the 5th leading scorer of all time. So he’s entitled to a little of that I guess.

Best of all, he doesn’t talk like a politician. If you ask him a question, he answers it. Yes, sometimes his answers are ridiculous and end up with him being a Shogun, but at least you know his actual opinion on things. The NBA is lucky that Shaq didn’t get 6 or 7 titles. A combination of injuries and Kobe were all that kept him from doing just that.

When I read that last week

I’ll admit to being a little bummed at the revelation our boy Roy was a Laker lover.
I didn’t want to post it up for others to feel the same way as we headed into the playoffs either – something about it didn’t seem worthwhile when all we need is focus and to back our guys 100%.

Cat’s out of the bag though. And my inner child weeps just a little. But go Roy and Go Blazers!!

by DMKPDX on Apr 3, 2009 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

If you ever go to a game it's in their Q&A section.

A few players favorite team is the Lakers. Including Rudy and Roy. This was pre Ariza, dunno if Rudy still has the same answer.

not so bad

I’m sure shaq has some wisdom for roy, and it just shows roy’s growing stature in the NBA.

Shaquille O'Neal said hi to me on Twitter once.

When I was a kid I had a poster of Shaq framed, and bought Shaq Diesel… I also thought the Michael Jackson song from Free Willy was amazing… Coincidence?
