you know
why do they do this tiebreaker seperate from the seeding tiebreaker? If we lose the seeding tiebreaker, the league is essentially saying “Denver and San Antonio finished ahead of you”. Therefore, since playoff teams are seeded in reverse order of finish, and we finished behind Denver and San Antonio, we should pick ahead of them.
It’s just common sense. Which is of course why Stern doesn’t do it this way.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

I agree
and that is part of why I’m glad the Blazers won this one. Otherwise people would be burning down the blog around us.
Perhaps we should put our heads together and come up with a Unified Theory of Tiebreaking to bring all of these diverse and inscrutable concepts together.

It is called a one game playoff before the playoffs
Home court goes to the team with the current tiebreakers in place.

It can get important, e.g. we won a tiebreaker with Minnesota in the Greg Oden draft
Greg Oden = Robert Parish (HOF, 4x NBA champion, 9x NBA All-Star). The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 400 rebounds, and 65 blocks in under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946.
this may be bigger than it looks
because the tie breaker, KP is now picking just one spot ahead of his old buddy Presti in OKC. Anyone not think that matters?

That just means Presti will try to "pull a KP"
and attempt to leapfrog one spot in front of us to get the guy they both want.
KP’s the master of that.
I know this has been said before, but...
if Washington holds onto the #2 spot…
- and Bayless for #2 and a bad contract or two. They can get under the tax threshhold, not have to pay $5 million per year to a new rookie in a weak draft, and get a young combo guard to pair with Arenas. We get Rubio

Maybe not if Sacramento gets the first pick (they can't drop lower than 4). They need a new point guard more than a new power forward
And John Wall seems not too intend entering the draft this year, independent of if he is declared eligible or not. He said he promised to his late father to go to college, and his AAU coach said it was never an option.

Blazer Draft Picks
I believe that tie-breakers are reversed in the second round – which works out for the Blazers inherited pick from the Clippers. I show the following, although other sources for some reason show Cleveland having Chicago’s pick. Impressive that Pritchard was able to turn Omer Asik into three picks!
Not that we need any more players deserving of minutes – but magic will come out of these?
24. Blazers
Second Round:
32. Blazers (From Clippers)* Mike Taylor trade
38. Blazers (From Knicks via Bulls) Omer Asik trade
46. Blazers (From Bulls) Omer Asik trade
55. Blazers (From Nuggets) Omer Asik;/ Sonny Weems trade
56. Blazers

35/36. Memphis

37. Golden State (To San Antonio via Phoenix )
38. New York (To Portland via Chicago )
39. Toronto (To Detroit )
40/41. New Jersey (To Charlotte via Oklahoma City )
40/41. Milwaukee
42. Charlotte (To LA Lakers)
43. Indiana (To Miami )

Oh, and before somebody asks:
*Please note that teams that finished the regular season with identical
records will select in the second round in the reverse of the order in
which they select in the first round. With respect to the ties between
the Los Angeles Clippers and Washington (32 and 33); Memphis and
Minnesota (35 and 36); and New Jersey and Milwaukee (40 and 41): since
the order of selection in the first round for each set of teams may
change based on the results of the Draft Lottery, the order of selection
in the second round cannot be determined until after the Draft Lottery
is conducted (on May 19, 2009).
Pick #46
I stand corrected
The Nuggets’ release from after the draft says that the Chicago pick was for 2010, not 2009.
The Portland Trail Blazers received the Nuggets’ 2009 second round pick, New York’s 2009 second round pick (via Chicago) and Chicago’s 2010 second round pick. Additionally, the Bulls picked up the draft rights to the 36th overall pick, Omer Asik of Turkey, from Portland.

And Asik blew out his ACL this season in playing in Turkey. It's unclear if he will ever amount to being "the next Okur". Yup, good move.

Just a reminder
Batum was #25 and Rudy #24. I’m looking forward to next season…
Who has KP's number?
I have to call him and tell him to draft all three UCLA Bruin seniors. That would make my day/week/month/year.
Hallelujah
Goodness, it’s nice to see the Blazers out of the lottery. I don’t know about you guys, but I was getting tired of draft night parties. Then again, a draft is unlikely to ever be boring if KP is manning the wheel.
Draft Order
At this point the Blazers pick 24th, however, even if through trade (which could very well happen), that pick looks much more appealing than in years passed now that KP is drafting; who doesn’t think he could pull another Nic Batum out of the draft. I mean, remember when a pick that low meant someone like Eric Barkley or Qyntel Woods? Anyway, we still have Freeland and Koppenen stocked away overseas. The rich get richer…
Here is a complete draft order overview (until the lottery) thanks to Wyn from Canis Hoopus
Funny thing: Houston (and Orlando) have no picks at all unless they go on and buy one.
