Fess up

I'd like to hear what people got wrong this year. I predicted 42 wins. I know Dave predicted Bayless would be more of an impact player than Rudy in the short term. I've read more than a few posts where people trumpet their prescience. I'd like to know what you got wrong. Fess up.

I predicted 51 wins...

I thought Oden would average 15 PPG and 12 RPG… I guess he’s been a little, er, underwhelming. But the team as a whole has been overwhelming!

i predicted rudy would own the 3pt record for a rookie by making over 165 3pters.

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

I predicted 48-49 wins

and an 8th seed spot, 3rd in the division, and a Sergio trade before the deadline. Glad i’m bad at predicting!

I bet a L*ker fan "friend" that the Blazers would win 50 games this year

God it couldn’t have turned out better.

Would get 10 Points in one of the first ten games. That could have gone better

...

All I wanted was for us to be in the playoffs and thought we would be #7 or #8 seed. Never expected us to hit 50 wins or have home court advantage.

i predicted

48 wins, 8th seed, and a 7 game series loss to the L*kers…

halfway through.. i readjusted myself into dreaming about 51 wins and a 6th seed with the slight chance for a first round upset…

they just kept stepping it up..

I predicted

That rudy would win rookie of the year and win sixth man …

I can honestly say that

I perdicted 55 wins and a 4th seed. I also thought Cleveland would barely be over .500, and that Houston would face Boston in the finals. But I got the important part correct!

i had:

56-2 wins shy but not bad, NW division-a share of it but officially to Den, and 3rd place-was a possibility but 4th will do just fine.

Good job.

If I recall correctly, you were also correct about Portland getting Bayless before the draft.

Maybe I should have you picking horses for me.

48 win prediction for me.

But I thought it would be close with division title. Of course, that was before the Iverson-Billups trade.

Very nice to be wrong in this instance.

52 or 53..don't remember.

I’m guilty of thinking Bayless would have been a rotation player and fighting for the starting spot.

I predicted that Oden would play 82 games and average a double double.

It was in response to an incredibly annoying “Oden is injury prone” naysayer at work… The first two weeks of the season were hell in the office.

I should add, that he's also a HUGE beaver fan

So, needless to say, after that hell of a November at work, 65-38 was sweet, sweet, sweet.

I thought we'd win the division and Oden would be a beast.

I thought Oden 18pt 10+Reb 1.5blks a night

I’m such a Homer and wishful thinking. I also thought the team would be different as far as the trade deadline.

I predicted 46 wins going game by game through the schedule, and 7th seed

I also thought the Clippers would be pretty good, which turned out wrong. I didn’t remember how bad Dunleavy was and thought they would get their act together instead of trading into a worse situation. I even called out Dave on them ;-)

“Yet you are really underestimating one team by only mentioning them in one passing sentence: THE LA CLIPPERS”

To me, that looks like a team with a good mix of experience and youth able to sneak into the playoffs just as well as our more talented but still very young team. I think we finish ahead of the Clippers, but that’s not guaranteed in any way.

Greg Oden = Robert Parish (HOF, 4x NBA champion, 9x NBA All-Star). The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 400 rebounds, and 65 blocks in under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946.

by Norsktroll on Apr 16, 2009 4:05 AM PDT reply actions

I had us at 45 victories.

And in the playoffs. I was also convinced that 50 wins would be much more rare for playoff contenders than it was. Everyone is entitled to be wrong once. The good news for the rest of you is that I’m using all of your errors so that you don’t have to. :p

Of all the things that can be expressed in the printed word – love, hate, fear, joy – true humor is the one that is the most difficult of all. Sarcasm, for example, is an art of delicate subtlety. Yet too many people wield it as a bulldozer – loud, smelly, ugly, and destructive – and think they are being funny.

by tominhawaii on Apr 16, 2009 9:08 AM PDT reply actions

46 wins

I thought injuries would play a bigger role, and that young guys would be rattled more than they were. I still can’t believe that we’re a borderline elite team with three rookies in the rotation.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
