Updated: Nominations Needed! Most Memorable in 2009

*update: added Funniest Moment to the list*

I think to a BEdger we all agree this has been a semarkably memorable season. Starting from Greg injuring his foot in Game 1 to Rudy being hauled out of the Rose Garden on a stretcher, from 'the shot' in the Houston game to 'the shot steal shot 1.7 seconds to end the 3rd' (has anyone come up with a name for that occurrence?) in Phoenix game much has happened...much good much bad...

What I am hoping to do is with this post collect your thoughts on the most memorable moments from the regular season. It could be anything at all...

After we share all of our random remembrances i will put together different posts asking us to vote on our favorites in each of the following areas (these can serve as a checklist for you to respond too below if you wish):

  1. Most memorable game of the regular season.
  2. Most memorable play of the regular season.
  3. Most memorable off-court moment.
  4. Most memorable crowd moment.
  5. Most memorable moment of the regular season.
  6. Most frustrating moment.
  7. Area the team improved the most.
  8. Most memorable halftime show or time out activity.
  9. Funniest Moment

I will leave this post up until thursday night so any additions from tomorrow's Denver game can be made and then I will make posts with polls for each of the above areas after that for voting on Friday.

Let me know if there are other most memorable things you want to see polled as well!

Ditto the Boston win...

but it also shows how far the Blazers have come. If they played Boston today (even if KG was healthy) we would probably expect to win at home. The giddiness that followed the win that was, from the fans if not from the team, would be a bit more subdued.

The moment

that leaps out from my mind was Roy’s buzzer-beater against Houston. Easy call.

I’m sitting up at 1:30 in the morning hoping with all of my being that the Blazers can pull this one out. Roy drives, scoops, lays it in for the lead!! I muffle my yelping with a throw pillow from the couch so I don’t wake up my girlfriend’s roommates. Elation fills me. We just have to hold on for the longest two seconds in my recent memory.

Inbound to Yao, Joel’s all over him, Roy’s flying over on the help, Yao’s taking an impossibly difficult 18-foot fadeaway with 27 feet of arms in his face…and it’s wet. And the whistle blows for the and-one. And the crowd lets out a guttural groan that I’ve never heard outside of utter deflation at a sporting event. I myself am more deflated than a three-week-old party balloon. I take out my anguish on the throw pillow.

Well, I’ve stuck out this much, and I’ve got class tomorrow, but hell, may as well see what kind of look we can get off with .8 seconds left. Inbound to Roy (good so far), gets his feet set and throws up a prayer (I don’t even think he got that off but oh well) and that ball is at LEAST twenty feet high and arcing like it has a chance and…splash.

The Garden goes bonkers. I myself am too drained for any bonking. I leave the pillow, go to sleep, and dream of Roy.

Mine

1. Gotta say the massacre of the Suns. I was there AND it was the game that was basically told the NBA that we ARE making the palyoffs.
2. We don’t even need to vote on this. Roy’s shot in Houston wins.
3. Seeing Martell at Washington Square in his boot about 30 seconds after I chose a Rudy jersey over a Webster jersey because of Webster’s injury. :-(
4. Bayless looking up at my sign and laughing.
5. Still gotta go with Roy’s shot.
6. The Sergio hate.
7. Defense
8. The changing clothes people. Crazy tricksters!

The most memorable game would be the first Lakers game up here in March.

The most memorable play would be Roy’s game winner against Houston.

The most memorable crowd moment would be the wave getting going against the Lakers.

The most memorable halftime show was on MLK day vs the Bucks where the artist painted performed in the spotlight to the i have a dream music.

here we go

   1. Roy drops 52 on the Suns.
   2. Roy redeems himself for the dumb foul with the miracle 30 footer vs. Houston
   4. Braving the weather during my holiday visit to Portland to make my one RG appearence this year (win vs. Denver)
   5. See #2.
   6. Sitting in the stands in the GSW game before the ASB… and little did I know Maggette would send Oden out for another 15 games.
   7. from last year? rebounding. over the course of this year? road play (we won 7 of the last 9 road games including strong efforts @ Cle in a loss and the great win @ SA).

eight answers to eight questions

> Most memorable game of the regular season.

Victory over Boston with no BRoy here in Portland. A close second was the blowout victory over the Lxkers where Rudy was injured.

> Most memorable play of the regular season.

Outlaw dunking in Garnett’s face.

> Most memorable off-court moment.

Rudy landing in Portland to a screaming crowd of Blazermaniacs.

> Most memorable crowd moment.

I didn’t go to any games this year, but the guys taking their shirts off and dancing sounds like the biggest one.

> Most memorable moment of the regular season.

When the clock rolls down on Wed night to 0:00 and we know there will be another set of games to enjoy.

> Most frustrating moment.

No trades at the trade deadline. I was shocked. We hardly knew ye Ike Ike Baby.

   1. Most memorable game of the regular season.
Probably the first time the Lakers came to town. For Ariza as much as the fact that we spanked them real good and hard.
   2. Most memorable play of the regular season.
In terms of one single play, Rudy’s 5 pts in 2 seconds takes the cake for me. The Houston experience was drawn out over a few minutes, so I put that elsewhere on here….
   3. Most memorable off-court moment.
I can’t think of anything of the top of my head…I guess that’s a good thing.
   4. Most memorable crowd moment.
The Houston game. The elation of Roy giving us the lead, the anger/sadness/letdown of how we lost it, and then pure happiness and amazement. Going through all of that with 20,000 other people…it was an incredible 2 minutes. I ended up in a dog pile with half of my row!
   5. Most memorable moment of the regular season.
Rudy going down and Brandon getting in Ariza’s face. That was a defining moment.
   6. Most frustrating moment.
The last minute of the first game at GS…grrr!
   7. Area the team improved the most.
Rebounding
   8. Most memorable halftime show or time out activity.
Definitely Quick Change. I get a huge kick out of that

A couple unique answers.

Most memorable game of regular season: Roy’s 52 pts against Phoenix back when they were still top 3 in the West.

Most memorable play: Batum’s Kobe rejection at the rim. Must have been humbling for the Legend.

Most memorable halftime show: The homoerotic twosome that had the entire arena in hysterics (unintentionally) during the Boston game.

Area team has improved the most

REBOUNDING.

However they have improved their mental toughness over the course of this year by a great margin.

The most memorable crowd moment was…one of our TNT televised home games during a timeout when one of the fans took off his shirt and had simulated sex with the stranger next to him…and then the camera pans away and when it pans back the whole section ends up being shirtless. The footage at the Rose Garden showed way more than the TNT version. I’ve never laughed so hard at a game. It was great!

My thoughts

   1. Most memorable game of the regular season. – Roy’s 52 pt game against the Suns
   2. Most memorable play of the regular season. – Roy’s 3 pointer at the buzzer to beat Houston.
   3. Most memorable off-court moment. – The team’s and the fans’ reactions to the tragedy on I-5.
   4. Most memorable crowd moment. – Just how intense things have been, how great the atmosphere has been, how lively the crowd has been for a vast majority of a long, long season.
   5. Most memorable moment of the regular season. – Fernandez going down in a heap and the anger I felt in the immediate aftermath.
   6. Most frustrating moment. – Trying to guard Dirk / Yao, and trying to get excited about Martel coming back, and then being disappointed.
   7. Area the team improved the most. – Not playing down to the level of bad teams.
   8. Most memorable halftime show or time out activity. – Didn’t get to attend any games. Though I’d vote against any Rebecca Haarlow mention.

I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.
