Gameday Open Thread: Kings vs. Nuggets
Apparently Sactown folks would prefer to be left rooting themselves tonight, which is cool. So HERE'S an open thread for anyone who wishes to discuss the first half (at least) of the Kings-Nuggets. The regular gameday thread will supersede this when it's time, of course. The updates can continue there.

By the way
I’ve been meaning to say this for months.
1991 was the year! I saw one of those games in the MC and we beat Magic. I still have the ticket stub. Sadly magic’s rebound, Cliffy’s bauble, and TP’s brick for the loss. I think we were better in 1991 and MJ hadn’t tasted victory yet so he was still beatable.

No worries though. I stopped visiting other blogs and wish I could take them off my profile.
I'm almost to that point myself.
You have to mince words and constantly tug on your forelock to avoid getting misunderstood or flamed. Even when you try to just have some fun with fans on those sites or encourage them. It’s like going into a pub for a beer and the bartender and regulars see you’re not one of them and start flickin crap at you. Who needs it?
I will say that I had a nice experience at Clipper Nation this week. I fanposted “Why are you Clipper fans?” and no one flamed me. The host even called attention to it in a positive way. There may not be a lot of Clipper fans, but no NBA fans have more reason to be discouraged than they yet they seem like a great group of fans.

Just an FYI
If New Orleans wins tonight, they’ll have nothing to play for on Wednesday. San Antonio would then be the probable division winner.

So
we’ve been eliminated from #2 seed? That’s what I thought but tie breakers get confusing. It’s division or conference wins that are hurting us right?

For me it’s just an irritant
I enjoy the game threads, discussing the game with fellow Kings fans, and when the Blazers fans are around it brings in side distractions.
The posters are just trying to be friendly, but we discuss the future of JT and Hawes on this site, during a game thread it’s distracting. We discuss Giffin vs Rubio on this site, during a game thread it’s distracting. We don’t discuss Oden’s injury problems on this site and during a game thread it’s distracting.
Well intentioned, but distracting. That’s how I’d categorize it. And at times condescending.

I'd rather play NO than Dallas, but I don't fear Dallas like many folks here (I don't much pay attention to anything with a 3 game sample size)
I’m curious though, which of these two scenarios would you Dallas fearing folks prefer:
Scenario 1: Portland miraculously gets the 2 seed, Houston 3rd, Dallas 7th… or
Scenario 2: Portland gets the 3 seed, Houston 2nd, Dallas 7th
Scenario 3: Denver 2, Houston 3, Portland 4, SA 5
In scenario 1, we’d have homecourt in round 2 but we’d have to play Dallas in round 1. In scenario 2, we might have an easier first round path, but don’t have homecourt in round 2. In scenario 3, we have to play the Lakers in round 2.
It won't matter against Dallas
We played them twice at home this season and lost. I want 3rd seed.
You're obviously not reading my projections, where Dallas ends up 6
my projections are always right you know
Ahem…54 wins…ahem

Maurice dramatically reduced the amount of fights I got in my second year in the league. Long before Detroit and the ‘Bad Boys’, Maurice Lucas was the guy serving up punishment, bruising guys and loving it. I learned all the sneaky tricks from the master himself. Maurice helped me control my emotions, always told me to never get even right away, let it go, never react in the heat of the moment and get even later when the refs aren’t looking. Crap...
Houston leading now.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Not really.
I’d disagree. Less competitive centers in the ’07 draft. ’08 draft had better centers than him.

How in the world
does McCants have a roster spot in the NBA. Good to see Diogu get his chance to shine though.
First I would like to say something (even though it's probably going to add fuel to a fire that should be dead now)
Even though, as I’ve said, I’m not personally insulted by anything is said by Bedger’s on StR, I do find many of the things said on Blazers Edge (you know, this place?) in this thread.
Don’t tell us we don’t have enough comments in our game thread @ StR. We don’t need your comments. You want to comment on the Kings, I don’t think anybody would mind. We know your Blazer fans, and even though the Kings were eliminated from the playoffs on July 1st 2008, we did know you were in contention for the Northwest Division crown. A point of which now you are no longer part of, and to that end I’m glad. Normally I wouldn’t care, but after your atrocious thoughts on the Kings, and I normally don’t wish illwill on any fanbase, but I hope the Blazers lose in the 1st round now. It’s much easier for me to root against the Blazers simply because of the lack of respect some of the fans on here for the complete lack of respect shown on Sactown Royalty.
On one hand.
On the other hand, that’s what you get for expecting the Kings to win. HaHaHaHaHaHaHa. Welcome to our world. Wasn’t it so much fun?

Oh folks here do
Folks dwell on insignificant things but then that’s what we do on the internet. Did you know we could have drafted Chris Paul?
Nope
Didn’t know that. But, if the Blazers had taken Paul, we could have begun to think of the West All-Star team as the Portland Trail Blazers.

Oh I didn't know that
I’m trying to avoid draft talk until the Blazers beat the Magic in the Finals. I don’t want to jinx anything.
What difference does it possibly make?
You have 3 potential all-stars, maybe 4 if rudy fernandez ever makes it. The team is stocked full of role players, and to boot, has cap room this summer. How can the draft make that much of a difference?

That's what I've been screaming
The only reason I’ll care is because it will be the only NBA news around that time of the year.
Actually
I’d rather you got a better pick than the Thunder too. I hate them even though I shouldn’t care.
Wouldn't worry about that
They’re at the 6th worst record right now I think. Well, maybe it’s possible since they’re at the 4th worst record at the moment. But it’s always possible they get pushed down too. I have a feeling a team will jump up, but the Kings will finish in the top 3. All I can really ask for. 3 teams jumping up past them will not be as comforting, but, schnuff happens.

It's funny to me
That I can maybe list four guys in this years draft. I think Rubio is a swell guy though. It drives me nuts when Blazers fans talk about making a trade for him. Never would happen.
Alot of things people talk about on this site
You get the impression that they think these guys are available “if only” this happened.
But if a Blazer fan told me that, and to be honest this would be my response: Do you want to give up Brandon Roy? No. Then shut the eff up". Good day. I refuse to discuss crikeyness such as that.

StR has increased it's traffic immensely
Over what it was when I first started posting there in 2007. And, I mean, IMMENSELY. It’s probably tripled in daily visits since. With an awful team, with little prospects, and with little else but consternation to write about the team.
When this team ever gets good, I guarantee it will be ripped off at the hinges. Or, that’s one possibility.
I’ve always liked it because it demands more out of fans than the other mediums out there. Which is nice, since many Kings fans are just clueless.

My friend here from Boston is cool and has a false sense of importance. He’ll ask me if I watched Boston games that aren’t even on TV. It’s like he’s in his own Boston centric world.
I think the sad thing is that the most obnoxious fans of all fan bases are also the most vocal.
That is a sad thing
But I’d like to highlight this part since it pertains to the other aspect of our conversation below:

And TZ was well within his right to say: " Get out "
It’s irritating to have other fans from another site say “win so we can get better playoff positioning”. I would have stripped every comment, but I’m a Nazi Jerkoff.
But more than that, unless it’s Kings related and relating to that game, I really don’t want to hear it from other fans. If the game wasn’t close or something like that, I could understand it. But it was before the game even started. And they didn’t show up until the 4th qtr of a game with the Spurs that meant a lot ot me because it would have meant the Kings would have won the last home game of the season, after a brutal season that has crammed a decade worth of lows into one.
You wouldn’t care for it either I guarantee you.

I didn't go over because Ziller seemed mad
If I don’t like a thread, I just leave it. I’ve never read his work until today.
Oh
And I don’t blame TZ for being irritated but it wasn’t because our dumb fans were being dumb, it was because Dave wanted to spread the love. It’s his blog and his right though. He seemed genuinely offended.
Spreading the love is not necessary or wanted
That was the point. And he, and others, were (maybe still are) genuinely offended.

That's what I find so strange
It’s not offensive. It wasn’t backhanded or underhanded. I think Dave thought it would be fun and good natured. I guess he should have contacted TZ first.
It made me think that TZ wants the Kings to tank, doesn’t want anyone to root for his team without his blessing, and a curmudgeon.
Nope
It’s irritating and in the worst way. Your intentions don’t come off that way, or feel that way. I realize it’s not the way you all see it, but, you might if you were in our position.
Evil Cowtown Inc: Screwin' Suckaz over since Nineteen Eighty-Five.....
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Yeah
I didn’t read the comments, just Dave’s post. One thing I’ve learned is that just about everything is offensive to at least one person.
I've learned that to Tom
But here’s the bigger issue: Respect. And what I saw here on Bedge with comments like “there isn’t that many comments in the game thread” shows me how little Bedge respects StR in this instance. It isn’t up to Bedge, or any other community, how much StR posts in our game threads. That’s our responsibility. That’s the bottom line. If nobody else gets it, well that’s their problem. Bottom line. End of story.

I also love the North Shore and Waikiki. But, beyond that, most of the island is suburban crap (as I remember it), and I don’t particularly for that.

I don't deal with much of that
I’m on the east side of Honolulu and work downtown. I I got to the beach, I go to Waimanalo and have never been to about 70% of the large towns here.
When I lived on Ford Island
And drove to Schofield on a near daily basis, I had to deal with it. I’m glad I lived there, as an experience, but I would never ever do it again.

My master plan
Is for my wife to get a job at one of the huge hotels on one of the other islands and then see if I can transfer over. I want to live on the Big Island.
Yes, I could see why you would want to live with NOBODY around
But the important question is could you still watch the Blazers? LOL (Do they still have that sports bar down the street from UH that shows nationally televised games live?)

The Eastside?
I used to go there for UofO games. It’s still open. Magoos got remodeled and is now called The Varsity.
I get league pass
I take it you've been there a few times LOL
I still remember watching game 5 of the KIngs-Lakers 2002 WCF there. Man, I was $%^& faced drunk that day.

Yeah
We used to go to Magoos all the time until they remodel. They don’t sell pizza anymore but the beers are still mainland prices.
That sucks donkeyballs
That place was a dump, but hell, alot of bars like that usually are. And some of them don’t compare to some of the dumps i used to pick people at in Sacramento when I drove a cab.

Yeah
It was sweet before the remodel. One urinal had a bucket under it with a couple inches of liquid in it. You can still get pizza from Magoos but it’s is out of a bus in a Chevron parking lot on King street.
There's a place in lower Queen Anne (Seattle) called Ozzies
That puts ice in the urinals. (It’s at 1st W & W Mercer if you ever want to go there. 105 W Mercer to be exact)

What makes it so funny to me
Is that Seattle has had a brutal winter, and they do it year round. Cracks me up. It’s not like Seattle ever gets to, like, say 100 degrees like Biloxi has I’m sure.

I'm 36
Born in SLC, went to school in Washington, Oregon, and Alabama then joined the navy (Orlando, Bremerton, Idaho, Asia). I need to hit Europe, Australia and the US east coast.
Jesus H Holy Christ
I figured you had been in the Navy (just cuz of the places you’ve mentioned—and I know that having been part of the same wonderful organization) and all (or at least the military), but damn homes, Bremerton?

I also might point out
that it’s not unusual for a military child to join the military.

Same reason I joined, and my parents stayed in the same city for most of my childhood.

My parents still owe me money from when I was in junior high
I had a summer job and my mom took all my money. I figured if I tried to go to college then I thought my mom would sabotage me.
I hope that story is humorous
Cuz if it’s not, I’m sorry to hear that mayne.

Nah
My mom was a drunk/coke skank and my dad was always out of town. They live in Alabama and I’m visiting next week. I’ve only been there two times since 1990 and that was before 1996. She is just a drunk now.
Don't blame ya
Hope that goes well.

I think so
I really miss Churches and Krystals. I’ll hit those two places, a few BBQ places, Pensacola and New Orleans.
Hated P-Cola
I really did. Of course, I also wasn’t 21 when I lived there either. But still, I hated it. Hard to hate Nawlinz tho.

I like Panama City better. I think my sister rented a beach house in Gulf Shores. We’re trying to cram as much in as we can since my wife has never been east of Nebraska.
Sounds cool
Again, Hope ya have fun.

Yeah that's your right too
But, he’s probably better known nationally for his stuff on Fanhouse than he is on StR. But, he’s pretty well known for that as well.

I knew his name but never go to AOL and then have no reason to go to the Kings blog because I’m a Blazers homer.
There ya go
