Gameday Open Thread: Kings vs. Nuggets

Apparently Sactown folks would prefer to be left rooting themselves tonight, which is cool.  So HERE'S an open thread for anyone who wishes to discuss the first half (at least) of the Kings-Nuggets.  The regular gameday thread will supersede this when it's time, of course.  The updates can continue there.

By the way

I’ve been meaning to say this for months.

1991 was the year! I saw one of those games in the MC and we beat Magic. I still have the ticket stub. Sadly magic’s rebound, Cliffy’s bauble, and TP’s brick for the loss. I think we were better in 1991 and MJ hadn’t tasted victory yet so he was still beatable.

"Death is not final," Gita says. "If any man thinks that he slays, and if another thinks that he is slain, neither knows the truth. The Eternal in man cannot kill: the Eternal in man cannot die. The soul in man is neither born nor does it die. Weapons cannot cut it; fire cannot burn it. .. What makes you think that you can destroy the soul?"

I'm almost to that point myself.

You have to mince words and constantly tug on your forelock to avoid getting misunderstood or flamed. Even when you try to just have some fun with fans on those sites or encourage them. It’s like going into a pub for a beer and the bartender and regulars see you’re not one of them and start flickin crap at you. Who needs it?

I will say that I had a nice experience at Clipper Nation this week. I fanposted “Why are you Clipper fans?” and no one flamed me. The host even called attention to it in a positive way. There may not be a lot of Clipper fans, but no NBA fans have more reason to be discouraged than they yet they seem like a great group of fans.

BTW Tom, I’m enjoying your ongoing dialogue with pookeyguru. Two lonely souls, working the graveyard shift, helping each other through the long night of their discontent. Well, his discontent.

If New Orleans wins tonight, they’ll have nothing to play for on Wednesday. San Antonio would then be the probable division winner.

we’ve been eliminated from #2 seed? That’s what I thought but tie breakers get confusing. It’s division or conference wins that are hurting us right?

For me it’s just an irritant

I enjoy the game threads, discussing the game with fellow Kings fans, and when the Blazers fans are around it brings in side distractions.

The posters are just trying to be friendly, but we discuss the future of JT and Hawes on this site, during a game thread it’s distracting. We discuss Giffin vs Rubio on this site, during a game thread it’s distracting. We don’t discuss Oden’s injury problems on this site and during a game thread it’s distracting.

Well intentioned, but distracting. That’s how I’d categorize it. And at times condescending.

I'd rather play NO than Dallas, but I don't fear Dallas like many folks here (I don't much pay attention to anything with a 3 game sample size)

I’m curious though, which of these two scenarios would you Dallas fearing folks prefer:

Scenario 1: Portland miraculously gets the 2 seed, Houston 3rd, Dallas 7th… or
Scenario 2: Portland gets the 3 seed, Houston 2nd, Dallas 7th
Scenario 3: Denver 2, Houston 3, Portland 4, SA 5

In scenario 1, we’d have homecourt in round 2 but we’d have to play Dallas in round 1. In scenario 2, we might have an easier first round path, but don’t have homecourt in round 2. In scenario 3, we have to play the Lakers in round 2.

First I would like to say something (even though it's probably going to add fuel to a fire that should be dead now)

Even though, as I’ve said, I’m not personally insulted by anything is said by Bedger’s on StR, I do find many of the things said on Blazers Edge (you know, this place?) in this thread.

Don’t tell us we don’t have enough comments in our game thread @ StR. We don’t need your comments. You want to comment on the Kings, I don’t think anybody would mind. We know your Blazer fans, and even though the Kings were eliminated from the playoffs on July 1st 2008, we did know you were in contention for the Northwest Division crown. A point of which now you are no longer part of, and to that end I’m glad. Normally I wouldn’t care, but after your atrocious thoughts on the Kings, and I normally don’t wish illwill on any fanbase, but I hope the Blazers lose in the 1st round now. It’s much easier for me to root against the Blazers simply because of the lack of respect some of the fans on here for the complete lack of respect shown on Sactown Royalty.

On one hand.

On the other hand, that’s what you get for expecting the Kings to win. HaHaHaHaHaHaHa. Welcome to our world. Wasn’t it so much fun?

You have 3 potential all-stars, maybe 4 if rudy fernandez ever makes it. The team is stocked full of role players, and to boot, has cap room this summer. How can the draft make that much of a difference?

And TZ was well within his right to say: " Get out "

It’s irritating to have other fans from another site say “win so we can get better playoff positioning”. I would have stripped every comment, but I’m a Nazi Jerkoff.

But more than that, unless it’s Kings related and relating to that game, I really don’t want to hear it from other fans. If the game wasn’t close or something like that, I could understand it. But it was before the game even started. And they didn’t show up until the 4th qtr of a game with the Spurs that meant a lot ot me because it would have meant the Kings would have won the last home game of the season, after a brutal season that has crammed a decade worth of lows into one.

You wouldn’t care for it either I guarantee you.

I've learned that to Tom

But here’s the bigger issue: Respect. And what I saw here on Bedge with comments like “there isn’t that many comments in the game thread” shows me how little Bedge respects StR in this instance. It isn’t up to Bedge, or any other community, how much StR posts in our game threads. That’s our responsibility. That’s the bottom line. If nobody else gets it, well that’s their problem. Bottom line. End of story.

I also might point out

that it’s not unusual for a military child to join the military.

Yeah

My dad did 4 years and my grandpa retired. I joined just to get away from my family.

That's too funny

Same reason I joined, and my parents stayed in the same city for most of my childhood.

My parents still owe me money from when I was in junior high

I had a summer job and my mom took all my money. I figured if I tried to go to college then I thought my mom would sabotage me.

Cuz if it’s not, I’m sorry to hear that mayne.

Nah

My mom was a drunk/coke skank and my dad was always out of town. They live in Alabama and I’m visiting next week. I’ve only been there two times since 1990 and that was before 1996. She is just a drunk now.

Don't blame ya

Hope that goes well.

It will be fun

Renting a car and doing our own thing when we can. It will be nostalgic.

I think so

I really miss Churches and Krystals. I’ll hit those two places, a few BBQ places, Pensacola and New Orleans.

Hated P-Cola

I really did. Of course, I also wasn’t 21 when I lived there either. But still, I hated it. Hard to hate Nawlinz tho.

Yeah

I like Panama City better. I think my sister rented a beach house in Gulf Shores. We’re trying to cram as much in as we can since my wife has never been east of Nebraska.

Yeah that's your right too

But, he’s probably better known nationally for his stuff on Fanhouse than he is on StR. But, he’s pretty well known for that as well.

I knew his name but never go to AOL and then have no reason to go to the Kings blog because I’m a Blazers homer.
