Pre-Game Podcast
Here's a dose of podcast love for you to enjoy before the big game. Gavin Dawson had promotional appearances to make today so Casey Holdahl of the Center Court Blog and I hold down the fort. We talked about the significance of the victory against the Spurs. the prospects for (and importance of) tonight's game, playoff hopes, the resurgence of Rudy Fernandez and Greg Oden, the reasons Phil Jackson decided to stay home tonight, the attraction of the Hoops Summit, and much more.
You can download the .mp3 here or click on Casey's link above to stream it.

sweet
something to listen to on my way to Lake O. I might actually get to peek at the game between orders.
UDOKA!
thx Dave!
just in time for the drive from Salem up to the game.
"It's like, 'Urrrrrrgh!'" Rodriguez says, his cupped hands turning into fists. "It is a good feeling. Good feeling."
Best podcast ever!
I haven’t even listened to it yet. But I know it’s the best one yet, because that hack Gavin isn’t on here.

I really, really miss Gavin
when he’s not with us. I miss Casey too when it’s just Gavin and I. I know I’m one of the people doing these, so my opinion doesn’t really count much, but I think the three of us have a synergy and energy that makes things go. When we’re in the same room together doing radio or the podcast there’s electricty that’s hard to replace.

Gavin has more radio experience than you or Casey
so he really helps transition between topics and mediate discussion.
draft dejuan blair
Yes, he has smooth transitions
That being said, I would rather another personality replace him.
I have now listened to the podcast...
And stand by my previous post. I didn’t miss Gavin’s (i) insights into his personal life, (ii) wild exaggerations in his player analyses, (iii) misguided trade proposals (Vince Carter, etc.) (iv) tortured analogies to poker, or (v) over-the-top fake radio voice.
Every sports radio host in Portland should listen to a few hours of The Ticket in Dallas. I don’t even like any of the teams in Dallas, but it is absolutely the most entertaining sports radio station I’ve heard – the ratings are huge. One of the reasons they’re so successful is that they speak in their normal voices, instead of the overly excited near-shouting you hear from Gavin or guys like ESPN’s Mike and Mike.
I'm pretty sure
He would have asked about someone taking a shot at Trevor Ariza. He probably would have said a little spiel and then said, “I don’t know guys, I just think someone on the Blazers needs to pop Ariza tonight, what do you think?”
He would have said he is “pumped” about tonight’s game.
And then he would skip over the playoffs and either bring up trading a Blazer or the draft.
I still like what he brings to the podcast though. It’s kind of nice to have the voice of the casual fan with Dave and Casey.

I prefer the phrase
“…..sate my Blazer lust”
but whatever

UH OH
No Phil? I hope the Rose Garden curse of endless L@ker shut outs is K*be related and not Phil related!
Why?
So I have to know something...........
Do you guys like Mike and Mike (I think that’s their name) the Portland TV announcers? Everyone outside of Portland, including me, can’t stand them. They are homers of course and some people expect that out of their hometown announcers and some people expect some level of objectivity. The Laker announcers, Joel Meyers and Stu Lantz, get crap from Laker fans for being too objective and daring to criticize the Lakers. I am somewhere in between, but I think Mike and Mike are comically homeristic. It seems to diminish, or completely destroy, all credibility.
Just curious what you guys think.
Mike Barrett I really like
Mike Rice=Drunk Uncle….you kinda like him but some days you wish he would stay home
My dream team would be MB plus Steve Jones….best of both worlds

"Comically homeristic" is a good way of putting it
They’re entertaining. They’re paid to be homers — not objective analysts — and I doubt the diehard fan is their target audience (especially fans of other teams). The Blazer TV ratings are among the best in the country.
Most announcers, including national crews, are irritating. At least the Mikes make me laugh.
Nice stuff as usual. You might need some intro and outro music next season to not end so fairly abruptly.
Greg Oden = Robert Parish (HOF, 4x NBA champion, 9x NBA All-Star). The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 399 rebounds, and 66 blocks, but under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946.

Proud member of Duck nation!
it's nice the way you keep things in perspective, dave, which is rare (and hard)
because you’re right that next year a lot will be expected and taken for granted, whereas now this level of success with this particular young team is all fresh, it’s all new — it will never be like this again.
we as fans are not yet jaded — and neither are the players. neither is the coach! everyone is still capable of amazement and pure joy.
