I think the Grizzlies will beat us.

I said 5.

But I really expect 6. One of the six we will probably end up dropping so make it 5. Does that make sense?

Not bad in March

I had Philly/Phoenix backwards, but predicted every other game correctly during the month

For April I"m saying 6-2. I think we go 3-1 on this road trip but slipup somewhere afterwards. 6-2 puts us at 53-29 to end the year, which is exactly what I predicted in the preseason official prediction thread.

How did you guys win that?

I think we stumble

at the rockets and against denver on the last game.
we win the rest

Other than death and taxes, only 4 things in this world are indisputable:
Brandon Roy is the BEST player in the NBA in the clutch.
Montana to Rice were the greatest to ever play the game.
The Four Horsemen of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine and Avery were unstoppable.

If we win in SA,

and win the rest, the last game of the season is for homecourt advantage in the first round. Now way we lose in that scenario. Only if the game is meaningless.

Usually, I'm a glass-is-overflowing kind of optimist.

But for some reason I voted 5 W / 3 L, which I broke it down thusly:

@ “Thunder” , @ Rockets — 1 W, 1 L
@ Grizzlies , @ Spurs — 1 W, 1 L
Lakers , @ Clippers — 2 W
“Thunder” , Nuggets — 1 W, 1 L

I hope they prove me to be a daftly distrustful doubtin’ dude.

I predict 5 wins.

Here are my predictions. I think we will win one fo the Houston or San Antonio games, not both.

@ OKC – L
They have been playing well lately, especially at home.

@ Houston – W
I think that we finally pull out a win here in a close one.

@ Memphis – W
Grizzlies suck, we beat em by double digits

@ San Antonio – L
Second night of a back-to-back. Tough place to win anyways.

La Lakers – W
Trevor Ariza gets booed by everyone in the Rose garden every time he touches the ball and the crowd and the Blazers are fired up and beat them handily.

OKC – W
They can’t beat us in our house, no way. Blowout win

Denver – W
We pull out a close victory against the Thuggets, could be for the division title if Denver loses a few more games.

I forgot @ La Clippera

@ LA Clippers – W

I agree that this is just how I think the schedule turns out...

I’d like to think we will beat OKC, but they seem to be on a roll. To me, SA seems to be the only eally sure loss…..on the back end of a back-to-back on the road for the Blazers.

by antediluvian on Apr 1, 2009 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions

3/5 on the road 2/3 at home

seem’s right. An upset or two on both sides perhaps, OKC or Denver winning in the RG would be the worst probably, beating SanAntonio or Houstion would be best case Ws.

Ben and I don't always agree...

…but not only is Ben right, he’s certainly not bush-league in this instance. I think he’s not going far enough.

I strongly prefer either “The team that will not be named”, or “The team formerly known as the Sonics”.

The only bush-league thing that happened was when NBA shoved the team out of it’s long-time location with an established fan base… just to show everyone what they can do if you don’t publicly fund a new arena.

(I can’t believe Stern didn’t recuse himself from the entire situation due to the appearance of impropriety, after he was best man at the owner’s wedding)

by Timmay! on Apr 1, 2009 4:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Ah, I still put most of the blame on that whole debacle on Howard Schultz's miserly attitude.

Let’s just say that my present-day take on Schultz is much nicer than it was during the last few years, as I once used the pejorative epithet “jewed” to describe how he selfishly screwed over Sonic fans — although that didn’t go over too well with the political correctness police, who all obtusely claimed that an equal opportunity hater like my atheist self was an anti-Semite — as a result, I’ve somehow managed to calm down a bit since those very, very dark days.

Nevertheless, NBA Commissioner David Stern, the Washington State Legislature, Wash. Gov. Christine Gregoire, the Seattle City Council, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickles, and the Professional Basketball Club, LLC share some of the blame, too, but not to the extent of that traitor Schultz.

There are times that I think you are one of the sharpest tools in the box ...

… and this is one of them.

Far and away the biggest reason the Sonics are gone is because of Shultz. Personally, I don’t blame him that much, as I am of the opinion that it was his money and he was free to sell the team to whomever he wanted. But I give him zero respect for basically lying about doing everything to keep the team in Seattle.

Just on gut feel there is only one loss left in the regular season. I cannot predict which game to lose but I think as the month unfolds the health of the rotation will drive a newly confident team to the 2nd or 5th spot depending on whether Denver loses to someone else beside us (L@KERS?) or not. If you added up the most popular answer on these poll questions, i think we would’ve ended up like 62-20.

Realistically, I think we go 4-4, this is a pretty tough last 8. I’m hoping for 5, dreaming for 6.

My projections would be:
@ “Thunder” – W
@ Rockets – L
@ Grizzlies – W
@ Spurs – L
Lakers – L (they are due)
@ Clippers – W (2nd night of a b2b, but we should still pull it out)
“Thunder” – W
Nuggets – Undecided, depends on whether we have anything to play for.

Boosted by their excellent play

the last 7 games or so, ( the PHI game not withstanding) I believe and voted that the Blazers will win out, that is right, they will win all 8 games on their remaining schedule, which will ofcourse mean they will earn the 2 seed for the playoffs with 55 wins!

by usmcr3049 on Apr 1, 2009 12:43 PM PDT reply actions

just to be on the up and up

this prediction has nothing to do with the fact that I already predicted in the preseason that the Blazers would end the season with a record of 55-27.

by usmcr3049 on Apr 1, 2009 12:45 PM PDT up reply actions

just because it was interesting to me

I took a look back at my preseason predictions and saw how close I was to what happened.

Ofcourse I didn’t see the Denver trade happening, so that throws my theory about them either not making the playoffs or barely getting in as the 8th seed. But my theory about Utah was pretty close, Boozer’s contract has been a distraction all season, but the injuries to their players have to be a bigger reason for their record. I was right on about their late season schedule though, and so far they are playing at or below my projections.

As for the Blazers they could reach my predicted out come of 55-27 if they win out, I was way off on Greg being able to dominate this year, as well as not seeing Roy having another HUGE step forward this year. So my player predictions are off on a few, but they are right on target for others. As for how they did record wise each month, well here we go:

For Oct/Nov I predicted 10-8, they actually went 12-6, this my fellow fans is where the team set the tone for the season, that brutal opening schedule, and the way they handled it was awsome.
For December I predicted 11-3, they actually went 8-6, still a winning month, but they lost games they should have won with both Orlando and Dallas beating them at the Rose Garden.
For Jan I predicted 10-4, they actually went 9-5, the OT lose to Charlotte was the only one I didn’t get right.
For Feb I predicted 7-5, which turned out to be exactly right!
For March I predicted 11-5, which once again turned out to be exactly right!
For April I predicted 6-2, with my losses being @Hou and @SA ofcourse, but hopefully the Blazers will run the table and make my overall record prediction come true.

Just dreaming for a moment

Let’s just say we win all 8. . .

We would (likely) have the #2 seed. We would be the talk of the NBA, being the hottest team going into the playoffs with home court advantage in the first two rounds. BE would be blowing up with talk of winning a title this year.

It’s pretty exciting thinking that it is April and I can still (somewhat) reasonably think about scenarios where the Blazers win the NBA Championship. I think I’ll go tape off my spot on Broadway to watch the parade now.

BTW, I voted for 6 wins just to be realistic.

Posted 6, but I actually see 8 happening

I think the Philly loss has gotten this team focused on the opponent at hand, instead of looking to the future. This has led to excellent game play and execution. As other people have noted, this team is playing playoff basketball lately, and they know that each game is preparation for the post-season. I don’t think this will end any time soon and we should expect to see the same intensity for the rest of the year.

My heart says 7...

My mind says 5 or 6. With Oden coming off the bench the Blazers are about 6 points better per game, on average. That’s enough to make them the favorite in the rest of the games. Da Spurs can be had. I like the Blazer v. Houston match-up. Even if the Blazers are favored in every game, however, chances are that they will lose a few. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Blazers beat either Houston or San Antonio or both, but lose to the Thunder once. Or, they may drop the finale to the Thuggets.

I have us down for 7, but...

I admit that is optimistic thinking. Basically, I have us winning all the games against the weak teams, and I have us winning on the road versus the Rockets, and home vs. the Lakers and the Nuggets. I don’t know if we can actually do that, but at this point the only game I don’t care if we lose is the road game against SA.

Oh, and I do include the Thunder among the weak teams. Yes, we have had a rough time with them, but I think that the way this team is playing right now, they will be looking for blood with OKC on both remaining games.

I hope we win out

but I voted 7. The spurs are definatly showing signs of being old and tired, OKC had its one lucky win over us this year we beat them down the next 2 games we play them. The rockets? I really think we have too much bench for them or any other team we face the question becomes does our bench continue to pound the other team into submission while our starters get a breather.
Portland as a team seems like they just found a new focus whether it carries over to road wins is another thing. That Philly loss may be a blessing in disguise at seasons end.

interesting fact about the Spurs game

Pop has said that he will not play Duncan or Manu on the second of back to backs so they can be ready for the playoffs. The game against the Spurs is the second of a back to back, they play in Cleveland the night before, so Pop may sit both Manu and Duncan for the game against the Blazers. Ofcourse they already beat Portland pretty bad without those two this year, so it might not be such good news.

by usmcr3049 on Apr 1, 2009 10:19 PM PDT reply actions

I have heard this too...

But I disagree with you. I think Pop see’s beating the Blazers in San Antonio as easier and more meaningful as it is a west game and could mean positioning. Plus the Cavs are 36-1 at home. With that said he sits Manu and Duncan at Cleveland and plays them at home against Portland.
Thats what i would do if i were sitting my stars and trying to give my team the best chance to win and stay fresh. But I’m not a NBA head coach… YET!!!!

6 of 8 Finish 53-29

If the Blazers go 3-4 on this road trip it means good things for the final stretch as we play 2 way under .500 teams and get the lakers at home. The Laker game I feel we have a great chance at winning because:
1. It’s at home and against the Lakers.. Can you remember the last time we lost at home to the Lakers.
2. It’s the second of a back to back for the lakers who face a hungry Denver team the night prior. (Who will be playing hard for playoff positioning.) And we will be off a days rest.
3. It’s the 3rd to last game of the season for the Lakers. With how the Cavs are playing they have all but wrapped up Home court advantage through out and we know LA has the West in hand. I think Phil will look to rest his team for the first round.

With that said I expect us to win at least 6 of 8 to end the season 53-29. With wins against OKC, MEM, HOU, both LA Teams, and OKC again. I think we will falter at San Antonio as it is a second of a back to back, and as much as I hate it… Denver takes care of business at the garden. ( I Hope I’m Wrong!!!)

With all that said, I think we pull off the 4th seed and with a really strong finish maybe the 3rd seed.

GO BLAZERS HOME COURT IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!!
