I am upset...
First off, like the thousands of fans right now, my heart, and prayers go out to Rudy.
Now then, why was the only player near Rudy checking to see if he was ok was Farmar? A L@ker???
I am a huge advocate of standing up when at times like tonight. Bravo to the Blazers for getting a spine and standing up for yourselves. However, I am also very upset the guy who was closest to Rudy, and the one checking to see if he was ok, ended up being a member of the other team. Why wasn't one of our guys there next to Rudy while the team doctors came out?
There is a time and place for picking fights (regardless on if a punch is thrown or not) but there is also a time to make sure your boy is ok.

its not like any of our players are doctors, what would they do?
they did not the right thing in sticking up for Rudy and making sure that it doesn’t happen again

Anyone comes off the bench to check Rudy they get suspended.
This is another nit picky stupid post. You deserve the truth.

No one was around
Because Roy stepped to Ariz. LA backed him up. Roy moved on to Odom. LA backed him up. Outlaw got on Powell. Channing tried to keep them all in check. There you have it no one was left to help him out.
Simple as that. It was very very very very very scary seeing Rudy fan himself like that. I too was concerned. But there was some serious back lash and business still HAD TO BE HANDLED.
In a few days Rudy will love his team for exactly what they did.

The team went for the scrum immediately...
and then were forced away by the refs.
I don’t think it’s that the team didn’t want to check on him, but rather stand up for him. My guess is they would’ve gone to him had the refs not shoo’ed them away.
I doubt that Rudy will be disappointed in the team’s response.

Yeah good thing Farmar rolled him over.
That’s good for a possible neck injury :P

I could not disagree with you any more. The players are not going to be able to help Rudy at all medically.
The best way they can help him is to stand up to thugs who commit cheap fouls, get in their face and scream and get nasty and aggressive, to dissuade other thugs around the league from committing cowardly fouls to him. Brandon Roy and the blazers did what good teams do when one of their guys takes a cowardly cheap shot. The trainers worry about the injury, and your friends on the court take care of business.

So being upset
that a L@ker was the closest player on the court to our guy who was just hit to the ground, by a L@ker, is apparently appalling? Wow, I am sure surprised to see that response. And from here of all places.
I know there was “business” to attend to in regards to the scrum that was happening, I was just amazed at the fact there was a L@ker standing over our guy checking to see if he was ok. Regardless of what was going on at the time, a L@ker was checking on our guy, not us. Thanks Keepfryalive for a play by play on the action and I agree, I am sure Rudy will not feel disappointed at his team for what they did.
It doesn’t change the fact that I saw a L@ker standing over our guy while we were off throwing down. Doesn’t that seem just a little off to anyone else? Apparently seeing it this way while emotions are still a little high right now is hard for some of us. Maybe think about it after that beer buzz is gone in the morning.
P.S I have had this name for years now, thanks much.

its not bad but
The blazer players wouldn’t have been able to do any good, and could have done more harm if they tried to pull him up. The doctors/trainers were there pretty quick too.
If its symbolism you’re looking for or an act of concern for rudy, the whole team prayed for him in the huddle

I think there was a LOT of confusion on that play
I know it seems wrong that a L*ker was there instead of a huddle of Blazers but perhaps you should be thankful ANY player had the presence of mind to check on him. In the heat of a moment like that, when you’re fired up and the adrenaline is flowing, the natural instinct is for aggression, not sympathy. I don’t think it says anything bad about this team that they were more focused on the brawl as I know how easy it is to get caught up in them. They were still acting out of support for Rudy. really, I think it was astonishing Farmar had the level-headedness to go and check on Rudy. It’s unfair to judge the Blazers for their actions here.

I think your misreading the situation
Ariza hit Rudy and immediately Roy/LMA/Trout?Blake(?, can’t remember if Steve was out there) who were all trailing the play got up in Ariza’s face and the scrum followed. Farmar was the second closest L*cker, and he saw that Rudy was hurt and (in a class move) went to check him before getting involved in the mini-fray as a peacemaker. It wasn’t like our guys were bypassing/ignoring Rudy, in the heat of the moment they went right to the confrontation.
I believe in Greg Oden. To all the haters - get down with the program or stay off the wagon for all time. #52

Not appalling at all
But you can’t knock a teammate for being a teammate.

Dare me to say it but
L*kers are human too. Farmar was the closest to Rudy in the few seconds after he had fallen. It was only, hopefully, natural that he’d check up on him.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m down with rivalries and competition but beyond colors and franchises, we are all human beings. Some more compassionate than others.
Get over it.

It is not appalling.
But it is a pretty good example of trying hard to find something to worry about.
Next thing you know, you’ll be critizing how the players socks all don’t match.

Highest marks from me for all five of those guys and also Pau Gasol, who was a peacemaker.
Ariza was apparently a jackass in the aftermath, which is what caused the scrum.

Yes Farmar did the right thing
Pau Gasol you could tell was worried about his friend. Ouch it hurt to say that L@kers are human after all uggg.
I just hope that this inspires the team the rest of the season. The win was huge and the scrum brought them focus

what did he mean
there wasn’t really any game to break from. Did he mean break from the huddle?
I did wish they’d let Pau or Rudy talk to him. They both looked especially freaked out and not quite sure what to do.

probably meatn from the huddle
they were all at the blazers bench fro 10 minutes and no one really had a chance to go over there and let him know that they were thinking of him

the analogy is a bit over the top but...
if the game is a war and one of your platoon gets shot, you keep shooting until the enemy is neutralized. The medics were pretty much there, there was other business for our guys to attend to.
While the foul probably wasn’t intentional, it was stupid and Ariza needed to be called out on it. I thought our team couldn’t have handled it better. Farmar’s actions showed class where a mutual respect between players superseded rivalry and violence. Props to him for that and for Roy, Aldridge and Outlaw making a statement.

but if I just got chin checked by the local bully, I think I’d want my older brother in his face rather than checking on mine….ya know?

I don’t think anyone except Farmar new the severity of the situation.
Props to Farmar for being more concerned for Rudy than for the outcome of the game.

Yeah, that is a classy move by Farmar.
And I think you are right that only Farmar knew how severe it was. You see guys take hard falls in the NBA all the time and sometimes they bounce right back up. Every case is different obviously and this hard fall was harder than most, but you can’t hold the other players responsible for not knowing that right away. Your very first instinct is to go after the guy who committed the foul. I was very pleased with how the Blazers handled the situation but still mad ups to Farmar for checking in on Rudy.

MAybe because Brandon Roy wanted to knock Ariza's head off. He could go check on Rudy or show
LA we aren’t havin it.

ive never more in my life wanted a blazer to take a swing at another player.
not when JR Smith yelled after his dunk or Birdman combed his greasy hair
not when garnett barked at the bayless or when odom smacked roy down or when he went into our huddle
hell, not even when Rick Fox still played or even “the 4th quarter”.
I really wanted Roy to knock Ariza out. I really wanted our guys to put a hurting on K*be the next time he went for a dunk. And I actually like K*be.
