What is Blazermania it's Franz Bread Cards
A few weeks back Canzano was talking about what would it take to say that Blazermania was back. I have thought about my love of the blazers since I was very young. I remember getting a Lional Hollins Franz bread card and I was hooked. Every year I waited for the season and then came the cards. I would eat five loafs of bread the week that the Drexler card came out. Then would only out do myself when the sweet Robert Pack card showed up the last week. What I am saying is that when Blazer cards were in loafs of bread we had no jail blazers era. To me this is the symbol of Blazermania. Blazermania is not a parade, it is not face paint, Blazermania is changing your eating habits because the Reggie Smith card is coming out next week and mom says there are still two loafs of Jerome Kersey.

Wow!!! This is an awesome post!!!
I did the same thing as a kid growing up in Clackamas, OR. You’re right on the head. Those cards were so legit.
The good thing for me at the time was that my dad was a worker for of a local Franz Bread!! Could you imagine the excitement in our house when my Dad told us he would bring home a whole stack of Blazer cards? We went nuts!!! All of friends had them, we traded them, we took them to school. We literally dreamed Blazers night and day as kids – this may be the sign of Blazermania – when the youth catch on to the “fever.”
I was in the fourth grade during the 90’ playoffs…. Franz Bread cards made that year in school so radical for me. I think I learned more math looking at the back of the cards than I did in my elementary school (Mt. Scott Elementary School Alumni !!! )
So does he still work there?
"Stupid Chuck Norris" ...White Goodman
No - he retired about 2 years ago... now he refs High School Basketball all over Oregon...
But those were great memories as a kid that I haven’t thought about in a long time, but just recalled them after read the above post.
It’s sort’ve the neat thing about this site, is that the “Blazer tradition” is remembered and carried through here….
ah man, i’m getting emotional with all these memories now…. Bring Back Bill Schonely!!!!!!
I was just hoping that someone on Blazersedge would have an inside guy at Franz to spur the cause. After I wrote this I ran up to the closet my wife wants me to clean out and pulled out my box of Blazer cards. Some of the Franz cards are still in the plastic. These are the best childhood memories.
Bring back Franz Bread Cards!
Does your wife tell you to clean up?
I hate those relativistic “clean-up” arguments wives/girlfriends try to pull on guys….
why can’t I hang my Spud Webb poster in the dining room????!!!!
rec +1
Yes! I’d go back to eating Franz white bread exclusively if those cards are available. Also, I’d love to see those DQ glasses back. Maybe a 2009 remix of Ripcity Rhapsody with Greg, Travis, Rudy and Jerryd as well.

I am literally drinking out of a ’92 Cliff Robertson glass right now!!!!
I nearly fell off the couch when I saw your post.
He’s playing “Hoop Mania” with an Atari-like joystick.
Cliff Robertson . . .
wasn’t he in "Three days of the Condor " ?
When did he get a glass ?
It's GO time !
With great power comes great responsibility
so where’s todays junk drawer 92?

Blazer Rap Songs...
I have mixed feelings about the traditional Blazer “rap songs”… They were sooooooo cheesy, it was cool the guys would do it (it seems like there are always a few players that at least dabble in music on the team – I know at least Martell does and maybe Bayless too currently), but I think players are way too “cool” now for the most part to do it. Way too embarrassing. Way too 90’s.
The Franz bread cards and DQ glasses are awesome. I still have a Clyde Drexler Franz rookie card somewhere amongst my cards in a box possibly at my brother’s house in Austin. I hope. And a new release of Blazer glasses would be sweet.
I did make out with a cool, albeit plastic hologram cup of all four Blazer rookies on it at the game the other night.

Revenue
Imagine how much money the cups and the trading cards would generate the companies? It would re-energize sales and Blazermania!
I miss Marty. Come back soon!
What would the action shots be of each blazer player on the DQ cup?
The DQ cups back in the day were really educational for us young fans who wanted to know more about their players.
What do you think would be the action shots for our current roster given that we don’t know a lot about them?
Brandon Roy – Bike riding w/ a HUGE helmet on
LaMarcus Aldridge – ????
Greg Oden – Stalking Rhianna w/ a video camera a la Cliffy
Others? – need some help

Rudy shaving?
These are DQ cups, not science fiction!
Rudy actually can’t even grow facial hair. He just glues on Sergio’s clippings from when Sergio buzzes his head.
Rudy had nice stubble as a young boy but caught a bad case of gypsy mange and now he can’t grow facial hair. As a Spaniard, this causes great shame to his family, so he fakes it to save face with his stubbled countrymen.
If word of this got out, Rudy would be ruined! RUDYUINED!

Don't forget
The 77 championship 7-up bottles and the texaco squeeze bottles. I’m up to my neck in blazer uncollectables.
I have one of them 7 up bottles :)
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out burns out farms and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
Does it still have the 7-up in it?
I have an eight pack. Also the Coca-cola co. did a 25th anniversary (small bottles) of the Blazers.
Remeber this like it was yesterday.
The DQ cups were great. I remember the (I believe) the cliff robinson cup saying something about joystick moves like it was a video game or something. Great memories.
I have a Belt Buckle
from the 77 championship season that my dad gave me. I think little things like that plus the cards and the DQ cups also it seems like i remember getting posters at texico stations when i filled up. I don’t remember can anyone confirm or deny this?
yes
Texaco did some posters. Also BP did posters one year and then did two years of a Blazer calender. My dad also gave me a 77 championship belt buckle. He said it was from opening a savings account at Benjamin Franklin savings and loan.
no thanks
I’m a big collector of Blazer items, plus It has sentimental value. But if i ever run across another i will post it here first.
I also feel like we need a cheesy song
kinda like the bust a bucket one. Also I remember 1190 KEX playing songs while we were in the playoffs like taking care of Phoenix to the tune of taking care of business by BTO. Bob Miller in the mornings.
The mini ball in the hamper.
I also remember owning this sweet mini ball when i was a 10. I would re-enact the play by play from the Shonz and just murder my laundry hamper. It had just a simple Blazers font on a black and red striped ball.

I remember epic nerf hoop nights during Blazer games in my room growing up...
Totally playing along with Schonley’s calls. I had my hoop up on top of my door and I was possibly the world’s most powerful nerf dunker on that door…
"Male sperm swim harder than female sperm."
Actually I had mad all around game
I’m sure if I were to reinstall it on my door that I’d be back on top in no time.
"Male sperm swim harder than female sperm."
I am and always will be the greatest nerf basketball player ever!!!
I say, next BE fan night get together thing-a-ma-gig we settle this once and for all.
Blazer Day
I can remember in Junior High in the early 90’s we’d have Blazer day when we were in the playoffs. Everyone would wear their Blazers gear and red, black and white. That’s Blazermania (along with the Franz cards.)
All my stuff
Disappeared long ago. The one that sticks with me, though, is the ‘Red Hot & Rollin’" t-shirt my mom owned in 1977. White t-shirt with red letters and a red collar and sleeve ends. I’m sure it is hiding in a box somewhere.
newbergfan...
how old are you?… i grew up in Newberg with pretty much that same exact experience…
Free Sergio... no really, please, take him.
Clyde "Wheaties Box " anyone ?
Duck pointing to the fish to get into the basket is
the best DQ glass ! RIP Big Duck !!!
It's GO time !
I got the Clyde Wheaties box
still in exquisite condition. I tried to make a lucite box for it but couldn’t get it to come out clean looking enough

I love this fanpost.

Does anyone remember...
the Blazer police cards from the late 70’s thru the mid 80’s (I believe that Clyde’s rookie season was the last year they did them. Clyde has a Red jersey on.) And DQ came out with the small round cardboard disks (i believe they were called POG’s ) for the 25th anniversary. They fit on a 8 × 11 1/2 cardboard holder. The pictures were from the 25 greatest Blazers up to that point.
correct me if I'm wrong
but I don’t think that Franz was making cards when Lionel Hollins was a Blazer. Might it have been the Police sets?
Also anyone remember the sunshine pizza exchange glasses from the mid 80’s that featured two Blazers on each glass?
It was from the 1989 or 1990 set. I still have the card. He wasn’t playing anymore it was some kind of look back. They also did a Bill Walton card that same year and I have that one too.
Bring back Franz Bread Cards!
Someone will bring back the glasses next year
Trout – Fishing obviously
LA – Making local commercials
Oden – Rehabbing… just kidding…. Greg will be singing Kary-oak-ee
Rudy and Sergio (if he’s here) have a joint cup where they are…. uh? ON a ship? Spanish ship in the olden times?
Webster – Spiderman?
Batum – Sitting at a Bistro sipping an espresso
Prizbilla = Praying
Bayless – Merry Chrismas from Bayless, Merry Christmaaas.
Roy – Parenting
I still have Brian Grant's box of Monsta O's...
The thing is, these promo cereals were usually terrible but Monsta O’s were really good. Shame mom bought only one box… As a younger generation fan i feel its one of the few collectors item type things the blazers ever issued, i wish i got some sweet bread cards, better times man… i missed out. Here’s to the future, im looking forward to Bayflakes and Ruffilk for breakfast.

The Franz cards
I got a slew of ‘em. My folks bought like 20 loafs and put ’em in the big freezer in the basement. I wasn’t sposed to dig through ’em for the cards until we actually needed a neww loaf. Used to really honk my parents off when the loaf would come out and anyone could see the plastic clip was barely hanging on the spunt wrapper, and for some reason no card inside… I was about as good as re-wrapping Christmas presents I peaked into early.

Do they still make the Rip City magazines?
I’ve got the first 3 seasons of those gems
