Interesting thing..
Is that I can’t remember anyone ever taking such a firm stance. A lot of media types have called him an “all star” or one of the best young players. You never see anyone attempt to quantify it. While I tend to agree with Hollinger, I think he’s going to take some heat… People will especially point to his defense.
I agree.
The thing about Hollinger is that his stats are almost all based on the offensive side of the ball. His metrics really don’t take into account defense (aside from blocks and rebounds).

I love Roy but...
He can make some mediocre players, *cough*Marquis Daniels*cough*, look like the 8th best player…at least on offense.
That being said, I’m stoked to see him get this kind of recognition. The guy plays so effortlessly; you can see why so many fans of other teams like watching him.
Totally disagree.
I think Roy as the bottom half of the top 10 is an easy call.

Your perception
Is not that of national public opinion or national media. Roy is simply not a big enough name yet to get that kind of respect. 100% guarantee that Barkley will make a comment tonight which contradicts Hollinger’s article.

btw, i was out all night
so i didn’t watch the coverage, but I guarantee anyways that you’re wrong. Barkley’s been banging the Roy drum for over a year now (and the nate drum too for that matter), even though he doesn’t like our team as a whole that much. Hell, he said the words “roy” and “mvp” in the same sentence a couple of times last season, which is a lot farther than Hollinger has gone.

You fanshot needed a stronger title....
This is the most lead that ESPN has given to Roy or the Blazers in a long, long while. Time to step your game up. This article is probably going to get reposted in the fanpost section just because you didn’t give it enough cred. Step your game up Arby.
Thanks for you input.
I prefer titles to be clear and to the point rather than annoying had having 14 exclaimation points.

Thanks for posting.

That is a cool nickname
really cool. I like the Natural too.. but if we had to change it. TMS is awesome

TMS is much better than The Natural.

My favorite quote
Typical Roy, giving credit to his big brother:
His game is pure craftiness — changes of pace and direction, subtle fakes, midrange jumpers and cleanly executed finishes around the rim with either hand. It’s jarring to see a player who is 24 years old play with such polish, something Roy credits to his older brother.
“He was faster, stronger, taller everything,” Roy said. “The only thing I could do to beat him was to try to outsmart him. Now that I’m in the NBA, I use those same skills, because guys are bigger, faster, stronger. It’s just my style. I could go up and dunk basketballs, but I just try to get to the point as fast as possible with as little energy as I have to.”

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

That theme song
was one of my ringtones on my old phone – still love it. But I just cannot see the name applying to one person. It’s very clever tho.
"...LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy combined to outscore the Spurs all by themselves in the first half. I have never seen San Antonio look so inept." - K.Pelton, 03/02/09
Magnificent Seven doesn't really work, but I can think of something that might.
Some might find it a bit cheesy, because it is.
But some of you may know that the movie The Magnificent Seven is actually a remake. The original movie was Shichinin no Samurai, otherwise known as The Seven Samurai, by Akira Kurosawa. One of the greatest films in history. If you haven’t seen it, see it NOW…….or rather after the game tonight.
But doesn’t anyone else think The Samurai works pretty well for Roy? Quick, reserved, skillful, uses only necessary motion to get the job done. The similarities are uncanny.
Yes! Yes! In the face!

The Samurai
yes I see it
- economy of motion
- spectacular results without a spectacle
- personal coda
- one on many slice and dice
- stands aside when not needed
- step in when time are hard
Also fits for a pacific rim team.
the samurai
btw
NOTHING at all wrong with the Magnificent Seven. The movie was great. Not Kurosawa good but good.

hollingers a stat man
so anything he says he can back it up with numbers, hes basically just telling the world what blazers fans have known all along, im hoping one day broy will pull a drexler and get voted as a west starter for the all star game.
which is a huge accomplishment considering the lack of publicity the blazers get.
7th sounds good at least for now
Brandon is a special player. For me, he’s one of the best three Blazers ever because of his total leadership as well as play. I’d put Clyde and Bill Walton at that level. Clyde because of his sheer “Clydeness.” Walton because he led us to the championship, diminished by the fact that his tenure didn’t last long.
Remember last year we were debating the Blazer players’ upside potential? Many of us (including me) thought Brandon had about reached his potential. It’s because he plays so efficiently.
I think most of us now feel that if he stays healthy he can only get better .. maybe even to MVP level if (when) the Blazers reach the finals.
