wow
Another knee jerk , thoughtless, meaningless “article” I mean … what passes for journalism these days is just sad. Good thing we got rid of Roy after he missed extended games his rookie and 2nd seasons. It is really too bad we chose LA I mean he obviously has a bad heart and a bum shoulder. Its a good thing we didn’t sign Joel to a long term deal cause he has only played 60% of his games so far in his career. If it weren’t for the patience and foresight of KP, who would we have on this team? Oden is going to be the MAN in the middle. He has the talent and the drive. Their are a whole lot of chirpers out there who don’t want portland to be as good as they are. They see us climbing the standings with Oden still playing a limited role. The writing is on the wall. As Oden is developes the rest of the league is in for it!
I really wish Oden could have proved people wrong towards the end of this season
It’s just not going to happen with the injuries. I’m hoping an off-season of coaching, rehabillitation and work can bring him some real success next season.
Do ya think
When Oden’s in the playoffs in upcoming seasons stuffing the oppositions lunch down their throats, and fouls decrease, offense improves, and he totally dominates in the paint, McMennamin will say, “Boy was I wrong about the 20 year old back the day!”
No, he’ll find a new guy to dump on.
Even with all his injuries, he’s still only 21 years old. He’s for real. He was the right choice.
*shrug* didn't seem that harsh to me.
All he’s saying is why he’s dropping Oden from the list of top 20 rookie contributors, basically because of the combination of underwhelming stats and the many many games missed.
But before Oden is labeled a bust, let’s all catch our breath for a second. He is just 21 years old. He may be injury prone so far, but nobody is immune….
Injuries happen in the game of basketball….
Who’s to say Oden has just been unlucky, rather than injury-prone?
Not sure what’s so objectionable about that.
I do think it’s pretty funny that Mcmenamin was popular around here when he was consistently pointing out how well Roy was playing two years ago in his rookie report, but is a villain now since he’s been down on Oden.
right on
could not agree more. Even this year people are looking from afar at the stats ..9pt 7boards 1 block and not seeing the impact he has had. From my observations his impact is greater than realized …
Mareese Speights ranked one notch above Oden...
Its says that Speights impressed with his first double double of the season… and then ranked him one spot higher than Greg Oden.
Who has 17 double-doubles this season and a ton more blocks…

Did McMennamin actually put those rankings together
or is he simply commenting on them? That would factor in for me as to whether I could tolerate the tone of the article.
As far as Greg’s ranking is concerned, I’m not really that concerned about it. Very few of us thought he would get ROY this year simply because Centers hardly ever get consideration for that award, especially when they’re on a winning team and aren’t the first or second option on offense. I just would love to have Greg shielded from all the crap that gets flung in his direction so that he can simply play without the unnecessary garbage the media puts out there floating in the back of his head.
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
It might be good
if he is labeled a bust and forgotten about, then he can just play ball and develop – LIKE EVERY OTHER PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. We don’t need Shack or Duncan on this team, just a good center who can support those around him. Oden is more than capible of that.
We went like this, he went like that. I say to Hollywood: Where'd he go? Hollywood says: where'd who go?
