Trade Oden for Chris Paul
I know just by mentioning the word Oden and trade in the same sentence I automatically invite half of Portland to absolutely rip me. But before you do, take a moment for a little objective thought.
Chris Paul would be more valuable to us than Greg Oden right now.
I’m not part of the “down on Oden bandwagon”. I’m also not trotting out the “should we have drafted Oden or Durant” question. Those are both so worn out, and lacking in intelligent analysis.
When you intellectually break down what this team would be like with Chris Paul on it, versus what we lose by trading Oden, we gain alot more than we lose. I wouldn’t say that if we didn’t have Joel Przybilla. But Joel has shown tremendous moxy every time Oden goes out, and the rest of our team still operate quite cohesively. There would certainly be some regret to see Oden on another team for the next few years, but that regret would be more than compensated by the stellar play we would have team-wide with Chris Paul on the team.
If you put Chris Paul and Brandon Roy in our backcourt together next year, we can look The Championship right in the eye. Chris Paul would have an immediate impact on our team from the first minute on the court. Oden still shows signs he needs time to fully realize his potential. Once again I emphasize, I'm not down on Oden. I recognize he has tremendous potential, and will probably someday be the beast we were told he would be. But when you have a chance to open up a possible Championship window which could last for a few years you must take it.

Wow.
All the reasons you want to trade Oden are the same reasons the Hornets would never take him.

So far, STUPIDEST POST OF THE SEASON
1.) The trade is not even laid out to be a legitimate NBA transaction
2.) NO WAY Paul is on the market for anyone except LeBron… maybe?
3.) This site is so much better than saying “if you intellectually break down what this team would be like with Chris Paul as the point guard…” NO DUH. Don’t you think every team in the league wishes they had CP3 at PG, yes they do. Nobody talks about LeBron trades because that is absurd, same with CP3.
4.) You might as well posted “I was day-dreaming about how good it would be to have Paul” rather than having anythign about Oden.
Fact is with Oden, there isn’t much trade value on him right now because he has yet to produce. I am HAPPY about that. I like Oden’s prospects still and watched him play in enough games this season to know he is and will be very special to this franchise. Oden is hurt, yes. CP3 is better, yes. I don’t think Oden will ever be a BIGGER NAME in the NBA than CP3, I don’t think ROY will either… until Roy has 2 rings and CP3 has none. This isn’t the Olympics where we build an all-NBA dream team, this isn’ video games. This is real life, trades have to make sense for the teams and financially. We will never have CP3.
Oden is gonna be a Blazer for at least 4 years. The Blazers invested a #1 overall pick on him for a reason and a VISION. KP, Nate and Co. are not going to give up on that VISION because of a cracked knee cap and sprained foot. They are going to keep on because of the 17 double-double’s Oden has posted this season and how RAW the kid still is. There is plenty of upside, and by no means are they gonna give up as quick as fans do because of his knick-knack injuries. Oden will not be fighting injuries his entire career, those who immediately dismiss his career as “DONE” are ridiculous.

There is quite literally no player in the NBA
except for MAYBE LeBron (and I do mean maybe— they still might turn it down) that New Orleans would trade CP3 for.

I'd say CP3 is the top of the list
Because the Cavs could move LBJ if he doesn’t accept an extension.
Lakers and Kobe vs. Hornets and Paul is arguable, but I think CP3 wins out because he is younger and signed for longer

WTF??????
I thought we were done with all the trade speculations, we are not doing anything til after the season is over, sit back and enjoy the playoff run. Even if you suggest an Idea it is not going to happen til July at the earliest. Besides I still have Basket Blue Balls from all the unfulfilled rumors of February.

The Blazers will play beautiful basketball.
Brandon will shoot the lights out. Blake will run and LMA will finish strong at the hoop. Bayless will play because we’ll be so far ahead in the 4th quarter, giving all the Jerryd fans something to smile about.
But wait, that’s not all. Rudy will go 5 of 5 from distance. Batum will posterize someone. And Channing will NOT lead the team in points.

Explain...
Why would the Hornets do this trade? I feel you, and agree, but a straight up trade of a struggling young center for the best young point guard in the league doesn’t make sense.
To put this in further perspective…. I don’t think NO would trade CP3 for Brandon Roy.

He's struggling.
Struggling to stay on the court. Struggling with media hyperbole and rediculous comparisons. Struggling with fan expectations.
I didn’t say he can’t play. I love the big fella, but these 2 years have not been the cake walk that were CP3’s rookie and sophomore campaigns.

Interesting
I wrote this post partially as an experiment to see what would be said by those who appear to believe we shouldn’t trade Oden for anybody at all, no matter what. I also figured it would energize debate from people on the other side of the spectrum too. Instead it has attracted a buch of comments shining the light on Greg’s weakneses.

I remember hearing someone call into a sports radio show back in 2000
And their gem of wisdom was to say “The Blazers should trade for Shaq. It would make them a better team.” No seriously, someone suggested that. This post is pretty much on par with that suggestion as far as “Dumb things that shouldn’t come out of people’s mouths” are concerned. While we’re at it, Shavlik and Sergio for Lebron. The Cavs would totally pull the trigger.

Your’e suggesting top players never get traded.
How many times has Shaq been traded?
by GoBlazersWIN on Mar 4, 2009 11:59 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Twice
But never in the prime of his career. I’m suggesting that teams don’t trade top players in their primes (or in CP3’s case, frighteningly, before) for no reason. The way that NO team is constructed, without Paul they are a 15 win ball club. Trading Paul for Oden would be the most nonsensical thing the Hornets could ever do. Like, ever. It would take the only playmaker on the team and swap him for someone who has 30 times less value to them. I’m also suggesting that ridiculous one sided trade ideas are ridiculous and are posted by people who don’t bother to think.

I'll revert to my previous comment above
I wrote this post partially as an experiment. It wasn’t that long ago the majority opinion was that Portland had 3 untradable players: Roy, Aldridge, and Oden. Base on the comments here, Oden has completly fallen out of that category.
by GoBlazersWIN on Mar 5, 2009 12:20 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't consider Aldridge untradable either
I’d take CP3 for LMA as well.. if NO is taken those kinds of drugs you need to make the deal happen…
I would have a really hard time trading roy for cp3.. but even that one would have to be considered as I think the Blazers wo roy are better than Hornets without paul. So by that logic we would be better than the Hornets if we made that trade..
CP3 is a horrible test subject for your experiment.. I think most top players (and often a couple of them) from most teams would be traded for this guy..

I'm not suggesting that the Blazers wouldn't do this deal
Simply that the Hornets would not. And last time I checked, there was no NBA LIve “Force Trade” option in the actual NBA. So, like, both teams have to, I don’t know, be willing to make the trade. Which New Orleans would never be. I don’t disagree that LMA and Oden are probably not untouchables, I’m just saying that if you’re going to suggest a trade, you really need to view it from both sides
I want Greg Oden to tuck me in at night and tell me stories about the old times

He did not writte it but he means
That 6 months ago we would only trade Oden for CP3 or LBJ or Superman, but now the other teams would not even trade a regular player for our superstar.
And to this dude that made this experiment I would say be more simple and people will like you.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

I’m the biggest Oden fan ever. But my man Oden MIGHT develop into one of the best centers in the league.
CP3 already is the best point guard in the league, and he’s on pace to be top five ALL TIME.
You could offer New Orleans, Oden, LMA, and B-Roy and they MIGHT think about it for five minutes before hanging up the phone.

this year. CP3 is not, I would much rather wait and see what kind of finacial shape some of the owners are going to be in at seasons end, we may very well get the big upgrade at point or the 3 for a fraction of the price which means we are not trading are franchise center for anyone.

No way the Blazers would/should trade Oden, who has the potential to be great… unless it’s an imaginary trade for somebody who’s great already.
