Cheers for Jarrett Jack!!!! with Poll

Our old pal Jarrett Jack is back in town!!!

I will definitely be cheering for him when he is introduce tonight.

Hopefully, everyone else will do the same at the RG.  I don't expect us to give him the Detroit Chauncey treatment or our treatment of D Miles, but somewhere in the middle would be nice. Just please don't boo the guy!!!

I appreciated everything about Jarrett when he was a Blazer:  Work ethic, passion, emotion, intensity, attacking the hoop and the never back down attitude during the games (reminds you of someone?).  Jarrett was Jerryd before there was Jerryd.  You can argue that Jarrett's play right now (last two months) is what we can hope for out of Rex next year.

Like everyone else, I didn't like the turnovers and that's one thing I would like to see reenact tonight to bring back some fond memories.

He wore his emotions on his sleeves and gave great interviews.  He's a class act and knew his roles/responsibilities (though his execution was not always flawless).

Give him the cheers he deserve!  See you all tonight then mañana at the Agency!!!

Talk about your favorite good and bad memories of JJ here.

Peace.  Stay Cool.  Forever!!!

I will stand and cheer when he is introduced.

Like him or not, he is one of the first players to transition this team from the bad guys into the good guys.

We should definitely cheer

I can’t imagine the cheer Channing will get if he gets traded.

by rmcdougall on Mar 4, 2009 10:08 AM PST reply actions

Do you mean the cheer he gets when he's introduced as a visitor

out of respect, or the cheering that will happen when he is no longer a Blazer? :)

the first one

Portland loves him. Plus, he actually has been playing well lately, so we don’t want him to leave either.

No reason to boo jack

Booing should be reserved for those who deserve it, by disrespectful or outrageous conduct.

Jack always played hard, despite the deficiencies in his game. Absolutely no reason to shower him with anything but applause.

MIles, Sheed

and bonzi when the Guang Dong Egg Foo Youngs come to visit in an exhibition game are the only players that should be booed.

….oh and JR Ryder and Quyntel Woods when the Bakersfield State Correctional Facility Stripers come to play

I can't see why anyone would boo him.

He worked hard in the off season, and gave 100% when he was on the floor. I didn’t like all his turnovers, but I liked him the person.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

They cheered when they heard he was traded

by inroywetrust on Mar 4, 2009 10:22 AM PST up reply actions

True.

But people were cheering because they thought we were getting a better basketball player. I think everyone appreciated his effort. They (me too) didn’t like the stepping out of bounds on every drive, and the jump in the air passes that went out of bounds or to the other team. I liked Jack the person very much.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on Mar 4, 2009 11:22 AM PST up reply actions

untrue

People also started singing “Hit The Road, Jack”. Let’s not gloss over things here—those were not “oh boy we got a draft pick” cheers.

oh man, I think I'm average like, ten points, like, twelve, thirteen dimes, like two, three assists, and about four, five rebounds, and if we need me to play, play a different position, I might get a little bit more.

by abdelnaby on Mar 4, 2009 12:17 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe I'm speaking for myself then.

I like Jack, but I’m glad we have Bayless.

Speaking for most of us I think

Fans always overreact the moment something happens. BE is proof of that. People were glad to see Jack go, but only as a player, not a person.

Take Outlaw for example. When we trade him I imagine we’ll be psyched, especially if we get something in return. When he comes back against us though, he’ll get a warm reception.

by Zaig on Mar 4, 2009 2:11 PM PST up reply actions

Cheer all the way.

Maybe some dunderheads will boo him… but that’s what dunderheads do.

Give the man his "M"!!!

Cheer whenever he enters the game

Double cheer when he commits a turnover during a jump pass.

Triple cheer when he commits a turnover by stepping out of bounds.

Think warm Jerryd Bayless thoughts when he dominates. The trade was intended for the long haul, in the short term the Pacers were expected to get the better end of it.

Still not sure why we got rid of him for Bayless.

He is going to have a big night… hopefully not too big though!

by FreeDamon on Mar 4, 2009 2:00 PM PST reply actions

well where would we play him?

Minutes-wise, Rudy and Blake were going to get them..

I suppose we could have let Serg and Bayless rot the whole year and gave jack those mins but I think the team made a tough but decent decision to invest in the future..

and that’s tough for me to say because Jack was my wife’s favorite player and she has only barely recovered from the loss.. she kept hoping he’d be brought back ala Steve Blake..

I think Blazer fans generally treat ex-Blazers as they deserve

Ime was class all the way and was cheered as such the first time he returned..

DD & Freddie Jones were decent local guys who generally got their props..

Damon had to take a few boos for awhile but was finally given love this year as an asst coach..

‘Sheed, Zach, and Darius are just about always boo’d..

But I do hope he steps on the baseline with no pressure just once in this game, for old times sake.

I’ll stand up and cheer the lad. He’s got moxie. I love the Odom clip.

Jack says his problem ankle is finally healed

Good for him. I always felt he was hampered—especially in his lateral movement on defense—by that ankle. Now maybe he’ll be the player he was projected to be coming out of Georgia Tech.

No regrets about him leaving Portland, though. He’s a great guy and hard worker, but Jerryd Bayless has more talent. Looks like JJ’s found a home in Indy, so it’s a win-win.

Class act all the way. The trade was the right move, no doubt,, but Jack deserved the love he received from the crowd tonight

An admission: After the OKC game, I said some things. Stupid things. Things about Nate not knowing how to coach GO. It was only then I realized that I was in danger of becoming that which I most loathe - an uninformed, knee jerk fan who reacts to wins with wild delusions of championships and losses with trade and firing fodder. I will not be that fan. From this point on I will support the Blazers, the coaches and front office wholeheartedly, offering praise and criticism appropriate to the matter at hand. I will never again be "that guy".

but i was also happy we have Bayless (over Jack)…he has won us some big games and has blown some as well. he was consistently good in some areas of his game, but consistently poor in others…all in all he was a class act and no one should boo him. he was one of the brightest spots during our darkest times.
