Aldridge. The Man.
The last 3 games have been absolutley spectacular from LaMarcus. He is running the floor and attacking. During an interview he said that he wanted to do everything better and it shows.
LaMarcus, you have just joined Roy as my two favorite Blazers.
I never thought he was soft, just young. A 20 y/o is always going to have trouble physically against a 28-35 y/o who does the same things as you. As Lamarcus gets even older and stronger he is going to be incredible! He is showing he wants to bang down low and he's still young! With this attitude and the fact he is getting older and wiser by the day.
So props to you LaMarcus--- it's all going with notice and you da man.
Nick, you're up next.
Oden, you could or couldnt happen at any time. I'm betting you will.

The way Aldridge is playing is huge.
This is the Blazer’s best stretch of the season, my opinion. Aldridge has been a big reason for that. He’s running the floor like a mad-man. Attacking the hoop. Getting tons of offensive rebounds. I’m a little giddy about what this team could be. aaaaaahhhhhhh. We are already seeing signs. They dominated the “healthy” Jazz tonight. It wasn’t a competitive game. I just hope they can keep it going.

You just wait...

While I don't think Greg will be a bust
I would definitely love to get another C a la Pryzbilla, Okhur to cushion any time he ever misses on the court. It’s a huge task to get another and keep em happy— but once the Blazers get close to the rings players will come to get one as well.

The difference is simple -- LMA is now getting low and staying low and taking 10 footers instead of 20 footers...
………………….. More boards, better low post defense, the ability to use finesse in close, and to make POWER DUNKS when they become available.
From Sheed wannabe, LMA has emerged as an authentic POWER FORWARD.

About time
He had this going on last year, to a lesser degree, and i had HIGH hopes. then he didn’t carry that over to the beginning of this year and grow it. Instead he regressed. He’s back again, and I love it. this is the aldridge i’ve been predicting since we drafted him and he’ll only get better.
The goal is not to be better, the goal is to be the best.

He is still taking several shots per game from the top of the free throw circle and the elbow
But makes a lot of them, and mixes it with good post moves and driving to the basket when he is left unguarded or got past his man.

Do you know how we'll know when LMA has truly arrived?
when great games like this one don’t even catch our attention. When, just like Roy, impressive stat lines go unnoticed unless he’s on your opponent’s fantasy team. When LMA dominating games becomes hum drum routine.
It will happen.

Something tells me...
It might not be automatic today, but this is the future. The guy has the smarts and desire to make it happen. Something is starting to click for the guy and its apparent!

Actually
I was thinking of something more where nationally he’s just assumed to smash you to pieces. Hopefully next year the blazers can expect it and shrug with a smile while the national media are still left gaping.
He needs to carry this over though. He didn’t do that last year, so here’s hoping he does that htis year.
The goal is not to be better, the goal is to be the best.

He's doing a great job getting to the line more, getting out in transition and getting more boards since the all-star break
If he can keep that up, and consistently be a presence defensively, he can be a true star.
He’s made significant strides since the break, strides I was unconvinced he was capable of making. Its very encouraging.
by jksnake99 on Mar 31, 2009 11:11 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Would you agree that he is"thinking" the game more recently?
Analysts have mentioned that eventually the game will “slow down” for Oden and that when it does, he will be a force.
I think that is what we are seeing with LA. He is making wise decisions with the ball and taking what the defense gives him. He seems very controlled.
by hoopsdreams on Mar 31, 2009 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's always been controlled
that’s always been a strength of his. It seems to me he’s tougher and more determined since the break.

He is definately making better decisions
Aldridge’s assist/turnover ratio
1st year: 0.56
2nd year: 0.97
3rd year: 1.39

Like I've always said
LMA’s biggest problem on both ends has been aggressiveness (or lack thereof) and strength, with the lack of strength helping create the lack of aggressiveness. He is getting stronger, NBA-PF strong, and doing whatever he wants out there.
He’s the type of guy who really practices and refines his moves, and won’t try out stuff in-game until he is comfortable with it. That’s why we haven’t seen much put-the-ball-on-the-floor moves, and you can almost tell what move is coming up because he has been mechanical (rehearsed even) with it. Now, he has expanded his repertoire and is recognizing when and where and how to use each move in his toolbelt.
That sweep across the lane baby hook is unstoppable. I love that shot.
He can establish position against most anyone now (no more getting pushed out to twenty feet). He is longer and taller than many centers, let alone most PFs. In the past he has always been effective inside, but relied on the jumper too much because he couldn’t get good position inside. That is starting to be a thing of the past.
It helps that, in addition to being stronger and more confident, he is able to at least put the ball on the floor for a few dribbles to set up the running baby hook. His long strides and quickness make it all the easier. So, being pushed out by a stronger defender is less of a problem now.
We’re really seeing that 3rd year jump now. We started to see it before the concussion, and I was really worried it would evaporate or be sporadic after he crumpled to the floor while being aggressive. Thankfully, he came back just where he left off, and then some.
It’s really fun to watch. Running, dunking, perfectly executed post moves, nice passes… this is the jump.
Ironically, if he wasn’t playing so well and putting the game out of reach through 3 quarters, his numbers would be even better. And just like Roy, LMA’s numbers would better reflect his play if our pace was simply faster— creating more shots, more easy buckets, and more rebounds to inflate his stats. But, yeah… I won’t lose too much sleep over it.

The Blazer players
say they play faster at home, anyone know of a site that tracks pace home vs away?

I was beginning to wonder if you were right… and started slightly doubting him. I’m glad he stepped up.

I had said this before and it may be nothing but
sometimes concussion’s just release you mentally. I had one a few years ago and felt it opened my mind. Just blurbing about small little factors at play.

He was having monster games before his concussion
In fact, the concussion seemed to knock him back for a few games from the previous awesome basketball he was playing.

I realize that
but I don’t agree with the “knocking him back” idea. I think since the concussion he’s been more explosive and aggressive.

The two games following his return:
Milwaukee
42 minutes, 4-16 shooting, 7 rebounds, 8 points.
Philadelphia
45 minutes, 9-25 shooting, 12 rebounds, 25 points.
I guess I was mostly talking about the Milwaukee game, but both nights were kind of subpar offensively for LMA, especially considering the fact that the defenders he was facing weren’t exactly all-NBA quality.

I'm not really speaking about those games
because I consider them to be him easing his way back into the game. Plus the Philly game was pretty much terrible for all players.

At home against the Utah Jazz, LaMarcus Aldridge had a laughably easy matchup versus Mehmet Okur.
Okur, whose practically useless on defense, combines with Carlos Boozer to create one of the most porous frontline pairings on that end of the court. Despite how much I persistently rag on Aldridge, even a hater such as myself expected him to put up titanic numbers last night.

since the All-Star break
he’s been rebounding better, drawing more fouls, and providing better help defense.
He may be turning a corner.

LMA's a freakin' stud
Runs the floor like a Gazelle and FINISHES! Has array of low post moves that keeps the defense wondering what the hell he’s gonna do next..Push him away from the rim and he’ll face you up with his mid range moves…even suprise you with a 3 every now and then. A Frackin’ beast for sure!
