Pre-Game Day Thread for Utah (Updated with Better Spelling)

Big game tonight. Lets start getting pumped for it in here!

Some big questions;

Which Blazer team will show up (the 20 point win team or the win by the other team missing a last second shot team)?

Will Greg Oden continue to progress?

Will we get any good shots of shoes tonight?

Will Da_Real_Canzano and the Real Canzano end up fighting in a UFC match in PDX?

Anyways come here to talk about the game and start getting pumped.

Also what is the best beer to drink while watching blazers?

I see

A really hard fought game with the Blazers able to wear down a tired Jazz team and win by 5-8 points.

I also really hope Oden can have a good game, is a double double asking for too much?

I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden

Why do people thing the Jazz are so good?

I keep hearing the Jazz are the only team to be able to knock off the lakers.

They just win

and they have a lot of players capable of blowing up at any time. They’re not great, they’re just scary. Oh, and they have the power of Joseph Smith to help them.

They are like

20-5 since the all star break or something crazy like that.

They have a good team, and Jerry Sloan coaching them

He seems to always get the most out of his players.

by Timmay! on Mar 31, 2009 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

they have a great coach, precision execution, work hard, and have been playing well lately

this will be a tough game, but I think we’ll win because we are great at home, and they are so-so on the road, and comin off a btb….

Isn't

that a pretty decent flight from Utah to PDX? like 3 hours?

Back when Brigham Young was coaching

they could have as many players on their bench as they could field.

dude I totally agree

I think the Jazz are overrated. I don’t see them getting appreciably better from here, and I don’t think what they have is enough to compete with the Lakers now or us in the very near future. I know all about their good roster and excellent coaching and yada yada, so just call it instinct or hyperbole or whatever you want. But I don’t think the Jazz are all that and a bag of chips, no sir.

I will agree with you on potential for improvement, like I think they are playing as well as they can and some are overachieving. I think D-Will is good but how much better can he get?

I hope I can get a bunch of championships, like 15. " - Greg Oden

by mxpx5678 on Mar 31, 2009 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions

and I don't wanna

just say, “Oh, D-will is topped out, he’s not getting any better” because people have been saying that about Brandon since he got into the league. But who else is going to blossom? Brewer is solid, you know what you’re getting from him, but he’s not going to turn into a star. They need to make a decision on Boozer vs. Millsap, and while either of those guys could be All-Stars, there’s a big difference between “Tim Duncan All-Star” and “David West All-Star”. Both of them are in the latter category. Okur is like Brewer, a very solid player who has maxed out what he’s going to give you. Kirilenko is in decline.

A Jazz fan would laugh out loud at reading that and tell me what a homer I am, and perhaps righfully so. But I’m just a lot less impressed with Utah’s talent overall than everybody else seems to be.

by BlazersOrBust on Mar 31, 2009 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Utah almost always overachieves. It's a little frustrating but yet impressive.

I’m convinced that same exact team of players would win 10-15 less games in, say, Charlotte or Memphis.

If Boston ages as expected, and LBJ goes to NYC and needs time to gel there, and Kobe starts to fade in LA, there may even be an opening for Utah to pull a Houston and win an title unexpectedly.

Well, unless Portland is in the way. :)

by Timmay! on Mar 31, 2009 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Nah

If Lebron goes to NYC it’s because another star came with him. Remember, they are clearing cap space for TWO superstars. Granted, I still think that if Cleveland wins it all this year or next, Lebron ain’t leaving.

by Zaig on Mar 31, 2009 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with you

this economic collapse is the best thing that could have happened to Cleveland basketball. It really reduces the number of potential bidders for LeBron and Friends in 2010. LBJ’s best shot to win a title is in Cleveland (for the near future anyway) and Cleveland can give him more money than anybody else. He doesn’t need to be in NYC to be a global icon…and I doubt it has escaped him that MJ and Kobe both spent their whole careers with one team.

The Michael Ruffin of BlazersEdge, cuz Amlmart said so.

by BlazersOrBust on Mar 31, 2009 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions

You're correct about the icon stuff

I think LBJ is starting to realize his location is irrelevant. He’s basketball’s closest thing to MJ and his location is no longer “Cleveland”, it’s now simply “America”. Combine that with the positive press he’d get about not being “one of those athletes who spurs the town who loves him for more money”, and it’ll make him more attractive to advertisers.

It’s possible that NYC will still end up with one or two decent players (possibly stars at a level up to Bosh and Wade if they are lucky). But I’m beginning to think LBJ is having second thoughts.

by Timmay! on Mar 31, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Meh

He’s young and having fun.

by Zaig on Mar 31, 2009 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions

oh it's cool that he's having fun

Just saying that I’m talking about all the icon stuff, and am not even a fan. Which shows how ubiquitous he is with the sport of basketball, when even non-fans accept his star level.

by Timmay! on Mar 31, 2009 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

The New York Knicks still must find a way to dump Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries, but ...

moving those two guys will probably come at the cost of its 2009 first-round draft pick and Wilson Chandler. I, moreover, would flatly suggest to Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni that re-signing David Lee and/or Nate Robinson might not be in the franchise’s long-term best interests. Instead, the main objective there ought to be clearing cap space for the summer of 2010.

Injuries

This team has been hurt a lot more than we have by injuries. Like us, they are getting healthier. Luckily, Boozer isn’t back to his true form yet, but this sure isn’t a team I wanna see in the playoffs. If we do see them, it wouldn’t be till round 2, probably round 3.

(Wouldn’t that be awesome if both teams peeked and got healthy for the playoffs and the 5/7 seeds met in the WCF.)

good start

if we get off to a good start like we have been lately, we should be able to take care of business at home

well, they have a widmer's thing right on the sign out front.

i’m pretty sure on that ribbon thing with the yellow outline below where it says “RG” on the sign….it says widmer. you can’t see it from that angle, but if you were to the right you could read it.

could be wrong, but i’m pretty sure.

i had club level for the timberwolves game a couple weeks ago

it was insane. I had so much food.

Hot dog
Pizza
Pretzel
6 mini-chicken enchiladas
3 choc chip cookies
pizza
popcorn
2 jones sodas
a water bottle
7 slices o watermelon
4 slices o cantelope
more i’m probably forgetting.

i figure if you’re going to sit in the club level, you may as well get your money’s worth.

The Blazers will lose the first game of the season then win the next 42. Fans will still complain about the opening day loss until January.
