Blazers take 1st place if they win their next two
This just in, the Nuggs lost to the Piston tonight. You know what that means, right? We can take first place in two days.
Forget Greg Oden for a second. We are one game behind Denver, and would be a half-game out if they win tomorrow. This Blazers team has a realistic shot to take over 1st place in the NW division...in *March*. Can someone look up the last time we were in first place in March? It's got to be 5+ years.
I honestly had given up all hope that we'd get there after seeing the Nuggets run off an impressive January and February, even without Melo. I gave up on it even more after those stinkers in Houston and SA.
But here we are, two winnable games away from a significant milestone.
The Pacers game should be a lock. I'm as superstitious as the next guy, and I know all about our losing streak to that team, but we are a considerably better team than the Pacers. If nothing else, that sets us up for a fun night on Thursday when we'd get to play for the division lead (the nuggets don't play again until then).
I can't say I'd expect it to last if we got there, but it would be a milestone to be proud of and build off of.

Massivly important two games
The Denver game will be tough, but if we just bring the attitude that we want to put them away early, like we did against San Antonio, I think we can blow them out. Right now it’s all about Confidence and Effort.
Blazers Prophecy.
3-5 championships in next decade.

I keep underestimating the Nuggets
I think we’re going to need effort like you say, but that still might not be enough. It certainly would make for a great week if we could pull it off.

Big Boogin Games, these are.

Four Conference Teams with 22 "L"s.
Odds are 2 to 1 we will be playin’ a team in our division in the first Play-Off round. Who has the “Home Court”?

I'd put the odds at 10-15%
roughly 90% chance we beat Indy but only ~15% chance we win @ Denver on a back 2 back.

I'll take it one further:
If we win our next two games, we will likely be 3rd in the west:
We would be 39 – 22 on thursday IF we win our next two.
Houston will only play one game by then: at Utah, which I would have Utah pretty decently favored to win, so Houston, on thursday, would be 39- 23.
Denver would also be 39 – 23 if we beat them.
New Orleans plays only Dallas at home—far from a gimme for them, but they should be favored heavily, which would put them at 38-22, just behind us.
So, yeah, given the premise that we win our next two games, we are likely to be notonly first in the division, but 3rd in the west.
That’s a big IF though.

On the other hand, if we lose our next two
We would be 37-24, likely tied with Dallas for 8th… that’s how competetive this race is… it’s absolutely crazy, here we have a two game stretch that, for the time being, likely means the difference between 3rd and 8th in the west.

It will open up some soon
Phoenix is now dropping back.
I put it about 95% chance that we win tonight, and about 20% chance tomorrow. But if it happens, you are right, we’ll almost certainly be 3rd. Whether we can stay there might be a significantly different matter.

Also, that 3rd spot would be HUGE
If we win our next two, then we have a decent shot at ending up in the 3rd spot, which makes all the difference, because, having homecourt, and if they continue and can really play defense like they have the past couple games, we have a shot at winning the first round with homecourt, and if we are 4th, we would then likely play LA… whereas 3rd means we wouldnt have to face them until the WCF… which means I can hope for WCF. Not that we are likely to make it there, we would probably have to beat the spurs… but if we dont have to go through LA, then there’s a chance. If there were a way the playoff situation could fall into place perfectly, this would be it.

Even if we get to third
We’d have to hold that position. 2 cupcakes games after the Nuggets might expand the lead slightly, but holding off 5 other teams is no easy task.
At this point in time, I’d bet against anyone in the West being a 3 seed.

Yeah
I don’t think anyone will be a 3 seed either. They’ll just skip from 2 to 4.

Karl should have suspended Carmelo for two games, not just one.
Anyone have Karl’s email address? He needs to know that Carmelo has been saying bad things about him.

Not likely - but certainly possible
The trip to Denver is one of the hardest for the Blazers in part because of the distance from the airport the hotel/arena. Doing it on the second half of a back-to-back will make it even harder.
