Nic has soft hands. Season ticket holder party day 2.

Today was day 2 of the season ticket holder party. I apologize for the lack of pictures... I forgot my camera. It was a fun event and although there was no Roy, no LMA, and no Oden there was still plenty of star Power.

Batum: Like I said, Batum has very soft hands. I didn't know a basketball player could have such soft delicate hands, he must have some high end lotions. He spent a lot of time destroying women and kids at air hockey while posing for pictures at the same time. He was so good he could look away for a picture and still win. No mercy. Most people tried using french words with him, and from the look on his face they weren't very good at it.

Rudy: Rudy is not very good at bowling. I watched him go a couple frames and he seemed to be struggling. Maybe he picked it up later on I don't know. He was really friendly to everyone even when his personnel would try and hurry him along. He was without surprise, surrounded by the ladies.

Blake: This man took the bowling serious. And he wasn't bad at all. I didn't spend much time around him as I took off to meet the master...

KP: I got to meet KP! He was probably the most people friendly person there. Though that's part of his job so no surprise. Everyone was telling him what a good job he's done and he was thanking each fan twice as much back. What an awesome guy.

Sergio: Sergio spent his time teaching kids how to shoot free throws and taking pictures with everyone. I swear he was the most popular one amongst the youngins.

Frye: Channing was his goofy self. Not much else to say about him as I didn't really get a chance to meet him but he looked like he was having a lot of fun.

Joel: The Thriller was the star of the show. He had a HUMONGOUS crowd around him the entire time. When most everyone else was in the break room eating he was still meeting fans, signing stuff and taking pictures. It was tough but I did finally get a chance to meet him.

Ruffin: Lots of people actually wanted to meet him. He looked to be the most grateful of the bunch. That's Blazer fans for you Ruffin, we love you even if you're only going to be here a few months and barely play!

Others there were the Dancers, Blaze (eww), stunt team, Monty, Caleb, and Jerome Kersey. Kersey could crush steel with his handshake. And the most awesome of all, The Shonz!

To all who didn't get a chance to go I apologize again for the lack of pictures, I hope somebody has some. It was a really nice event and the players really don't care about the no pictures no autographs rule so long you aren't being a pushy jerk.

I disagree.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

Agreed, sort of

The NBA should get rid of the dance squads, but it has absolutely nothing to do with whether the women are attractive or not.

by Corvid on Mar 3, 2009 8:54 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I Agree that it has nothing

to do with the cheerleaders’ attractiveness.
Like mascots by the way, pom-pom girls have nothing to do on a basketball court, some could also say that it’s a bit bit sexist since I only see women being dancers, never men (maybe i’m wrong), and that those women, even if they are not all the most beautiful people to ever grace Earth by their presence, all respond to traditional (mascist ???) physical criterias (you never see fat, bald or one-eyed ladies for instance)…

Easy

-Fat girls can’t do the moves that they are required to do
-One eyed ladies wouldn’t have the depth perception to carry out the routines
-I suppose a bald girl could make it if she tried out and did well, but I’d wager the type of person who wants to be on the Blazer dance squad is the type of lady who’d buy a wig.

Quit crying about being PC, you’re going to get me killed someday. You’re like the guy who argues that female firefighters should get a different physical test because they’re females. They should only have a 120 pound dummy to drag out of the fire instead of a 180 pound dummy because that’s fair.

Excuse me, but when I’m lying unconscious in a fire weighting in at 180, I don’t want a female to roll in and be like, “Well crap, this guy weights way more than the 120 I qualified on, get someone else in here to drag him out.”

You’re like the guy who argues that female firefighters should get a different physical test because they’re females. They should only have a 120 pound dummy to drag out of the fire instead of a 180 pound dummy because that’s fair.

Hmmm… No, I’m not arguing that.

What does PC mean ?

Your answer is funny, but I don’t know if it’s meant to be. You got me laughing anyway so I sincerely thank you for that but if the first three points are serious I hope you realise these were counter-exemples (hence the “for instance”as it could have been many other things…) illustrating how these women are all in the same kind of mold.

On a side note I bet you’ll find some fat women who happen to be pretty agile.

by Blenzer on Mar 4, 2009 9:45 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Okay I'll be more harsh

The dancer’s jobs are to entertain the fans during down time.

On average, a Blazer spectator would prefer to watch a younger, thinner, full haired dancer than they would an older, fatter, bald dancer.

This simply means that to do their job better, the dancers should be moderately attractive, on top of dancing well.

You can call it unfair that looks matters in getting a job. Some people are just born ugly, should that hurt them? Why not? If you’re born dumb, arrogant, emotionless, clueless, etc it can stop you from getting a job. Why not ugly?

by Zaig on Mar 4, 2009 2:19 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think I understand your point of view

However, I personnally believe it is because we show a certain kind of female aesthetics that the majority of people have that kind of tastes for thin and young women. It is not something universal that’s been the same through ages and cultures… What was considered beauty in the Middle Age would be close to ugliness nowadays for instance, but you don’t have to go that far, in the majority of african countries they PREFER and find MORE ATTRACTIVE fat women (I won’t here make an exhaustive list of all the different beauty criterias, but there are so many other exemples)… Seeing young girls not too fat (except breast) and having them shown to us like they’re beautiful since we’re kid lead us to like young, beautiful and thin chicks (manly wink) with big breasts. I think that if there were more famous people or entertainers who differ from that image, our perception of beauty would be more diverse.

Then there are of course far more revolting things in the world and though I just noted the sexist aspect of cheerleaders, the main thing that bothers me with this is THAT IT IS FREAKING BORING AND I FEEL STUPID WHEN SEEING THAT KIND OF SHOW THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BBALL !!!

Can you just tell me what PC means please? (appart from Personal Computer)

it is sexist. Very much so. It’s annoying and serves no purpose but it is what it is.

I’ve written tons of letters to the NBA , thye couldn’t care less. When I have tons of money I;m buying the Blazers and replacing the Blazer Dancers with something else. I dont know what but they WILL be gone

Men in speedos

The guys can wear sparkly top hats, shirt cuffs without the shirt, and blazer red/black/white striped undies.

The girls can wear the same.

The Blazer Dancers is just eye candy for the viewers who enjoy such a thing, but it precludes most of the population from enjoying it as it is intended. We need men out there that we can objectify and argue over every little detail about their body and face, endlessly arguing over who is good looking or not.

The only flaw in my plan is that everyone agrees men are gross and women are pretty. I don’t know one person who doesn’t agree with that. Men smell, they are hairy, don’t have hips, and smell like hairy hipless apes (and not the fun kind that flip off the camera and wear cowboy hats and go on trucking adventures with Clint Eastwood).

I also read a scientific study that says that if there weren’t gyrating scantily clad females at NBA games, and people were forced to just watch handsome sweaty muscular men for 3 hours, then everyone watching scientifically turns gay. The ladies prevent mass social meltdown.

Yep. It's sexist. U of O now offers "cheer" as a sport.

My comment to thetsaiguy wasn’t in response to the sexism angle of cheerleading. It was more that I get a little tired of all the basement boys the fellows critiquing the women as if the poor pimply little wimps fellows are withholding the much desired attentions that the women are just clamoring for from them because the women’s physical attributes just don’t measure up to the pencil-necked nerd’s fellow’s discerning and well deserved requirements.

Sorry. I guess I’m just testy today. Dave will probably delete this.

all the blazerdancers would not have jobs. Its not fair to lay them off just because they are forced to wear extremely small spandex uniforms. Also—there’s definitely no shame in struggling in this economy. You’ve got LOTS of company. And it could get a lot worse before it gets better. I watched an ABC news segment about the Southern California economy the other night. If that’s where we’re headed, watch out.

They have folks flying around in helicopters, noting the locations of the hundreds of brown swimming pools. Then they send teams around to those abandoned pools to exterminate the mosquitoes breeding in them. This is a public health hazard in So Cal these days.

compared to last year, it was disappointing because when you have like 15 blazers running around Big Al’s you get a lot more bang for your buck..

Well

I guess my pics will have to wait until this afternoon. Leaving the camera at home wasn’t the smartest thing.

It was a fun evening. I brought my 4 year old boy and he had a blast. He’s super shy so by the time he was within talking distance of any one Blazer related he kind of froze. But once we got away it was the only thing he could talk about.

Channing and Joel were great! Channing can hold a conversation in any environment. I hope that a miracle happens and that guy stays in Portland.
KP takes the blue ribbon. He didn’t get to play anything. But was all smiles, handshakes and kind words as he stayed in one place for nearly 2 hours. Speaking as a father involved in the Portland community, I’m very thankful for what he has brought back to Portland. Thank you KP.

Hopefully that works. This work computer is giving me problems. Maybe someone can post them in the body?

Thanks J Mo! My favorite is the one of Rudy's elbow. Hey, parts is parts! ;0

Actually, I really like the one of Joel holding your boy. Really cute.

"Aneurysm".

When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie

Thanks

Yeah, Rudy’s elbow is pretty hot!
Rudy had such a crowd around him that it was hard to get within arms reach. So we’re pretty proud of that shot.

Joel was cracking me up. He was all smiles until the picture was taken. But it’s classic because my son was wondering why this 7 foot giant was holding him up.

I shook Jerome's hand last night

He was promoting the donations for the kid who was hit by a car. His hands were indeed bear traps. I doubt if a full size grizzly could’ve wrestled free from that grip without a crow bar and some PAM cooking spray. I told him as much, and mentioned that I’d read previously about his mighty mitts on this very site. He didn’t let go of my hand until I’d put some money in his sack. Great guy though.

Incidentally, he had a friend with him that looked at me while the Kers and I were joking around like he really wanted me to recognize him. No idea who he was though. Anyone see him last night?

Larry Miller?

Mr Miller was there next to Jerome and shook my hand. I felt bad, all I had was a dollar bill and like six chalupa coupons. I donated a buck. I guess it’s better than nothing.

No

I know Larry Miller, this guy was younger and thin, but he was nearly as tall as Jerome.

I figured

but I was grasping at straws for you. Not sure who it was.
