shaq's not a jerk
just goes to show that human beings are complicated animals. for all of his obnoxious preening on and off the court, way too many stories come out about the big cactus just like this one for me to really despise the guy. stuff like this is way more important in the grand scheme of things than him falling on joel's face.

Stupid people are often good people
it’s just that it’s easier to notice stupidity.
I'm a really really ridiculously good looking orange mocha frappaccino drinking manhammer sandwich
plus it's not tough to be nice in a situation like this
it would prove more if he acted humble and with integrity in a normal situation. Extremes always focus a person and make sure they behave.

Shaq can still dominate
9/10 centers in the NBA.
Yeah but that's war time.
I like Shaq. Better to have him on your team then playing against him.

Too bad... :(
He was available at the trade deadline but did not want to be Oden’s mentor.
You pulled the trigger Kevin. Now you & Mr. Allen must do everything possible to help him succeed. A mentor like Ewing or Olajuwon would be a good start. A franchise PG ? Mike Conley? Lets get it done !

Oden a better mentor...
How so? I’ve never thought that far ahead about Greg. Just curious.

Oh I see..to the kid.
I was thinkin basketball mentor. Me=idiot..
Yeah that makes a lot of sense, but it seems Shaq and the kid have known each other for some time.

Yeah
I was just talking stink for the sake of talking stink and since Oden does the Oregon Mentors thing.
I've read a few stories of Shaq like this
He’s no more a jerk than any other NBA player. You can view his goofy antics as stupid all you want, but that’s what the media wants from him.
As much punishment as Shaq dishes out to defenders around the league I’ve never seen anyone mauled as much – and he seldom complains. I have a lot of respect for his game and personality despite his years as a Laker. The Big Aristotle is one of a kind.
It doesn't convince me of anything really
I have always thought it is what you do when under stress that defines you more than anything. When he has time to think he does OK (sometimes) but when he is in the heat of battle he unformly acts like a punk. The way he treats fellow competitors is reprehensible

I'm humbled.
It’s easy to see athletes as two dimensional cradboard cutouts as opposed as nearly as multidimensional as us bedgers. I will cut Shaq a bit more slack and recognize his large personality and media driven public persona as incomplete representations of who and what he really is.
But I’ll still boo him when he plays us.
Bedge or go home.
My take
For years I’ve despised Shaq the NBA player, but really respected Shaquile O’Neal the person. He does plenty of good things off the court and never has bad run-ins w/ the law.
But I can never like him as a player after the complete disrespect he showed Sabonis in his twilight years. This is why I want to see Oden just destroy Shaq now, so he finally gets a taste of his own medicine. Unfortunately Shaq is still like 3 knee reconstructions away from truly knowing what Sabonis went through.

I've always liked Shaq. We only hate him because of how much he's dominated us over the years.

I don't care what fatarse does off the court. I hate him for the crap he has done to Joel Przybilla.

I used to love Shaq. I was born near LSU and grew up to be obsessed with the be guy. I had hats, jerseys, rap albums, biographies, still have his college card floating around somewhere. He’s an incredible player that does tons for communities.
Nowadays I pretty much view him with disgust. The way he talks about people, his lack of self control, selfishness, the list is long. Yes he does many good things, but the way I see it, when you make 20+million a year it’s not hard to throw some cash around or donate a little time. He does good when it suits him, and he thinks highly of himself for it.
I would be much more impressed if he actually dedicated himself to being a role model controlling himself in public, and setting a good example ALL the time. How about swallowing a little pride now and then and NOT insulting someone, how about not flying off the handle when someone else gets the spotlight for a little bit, how about not throwing the ball in someone’s face (and then bragging about it, and then changing your statement when the reporter points out you could be fined). Maybe I come across as a little harsh, but I was one of those kids looking up to him, and I have been let down. Being a good guy when it suits you is no role model to me. Impersonating a good man is worse than just admitting you’re a dbag in my opinion.
I'm on your bandwagon. Eating your nachos.
Its not like he hasn't earned his money
Compared to all the money given to draft busts over the years.
