NO at NY (Hornets lost yay!!)

Denver @ Mavs. (Denver won boooo!!)

Lets talk about the games here!

More games tonight.

Denver playing,

we are playing

Rockets are playing

Suns and The Jazz are playing.

So we want Denver, Memphis, Rockets and Jazz to all lose. I dont see it happening but who knows, maybe we can get a couple!

I really wish this didnt have to be 75 words because i have to just fill up the end with nonsense.

looks like NO is going down in NYC

this is huge for Portland. NO picking up a loss against and East team is a big step up for us. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier down the stretch, so every loss is key. This gives us control of our own destiny on our way to the 5 spot or better – If we do what we should, NO, Utah, and Dal can’t catch us.

Dallas vs Phoenix next week could be for the 8th spot

For sure, Phoenix will still need more help, but that is a 2 game swing right there if they win it. It’s really their last hope.

Yes

With NO losing, like douglast said, we are now in front of them if we play how we should.

Our sights have to be on taking care of business, winning our home games and the OKC, Memphis, and Clipper road games. I’ll also throw in one loss at home, to give us 52 wins, and probably the 5th seed, with home court a possibility if we can snag one of those tough road games against SA or Houston, or win out at home, or if Houston and/or Denver drop one or two they shouldnt.

by TimG on Mar 27, 2009 6:50 PM PDT reply actions

No, Portland would have to finish ahead outright

But I see that happening, they haven’t been playing well, Chandler is out, and they have a much tougher schedule.

by TimG on Mar 27, 2009 7:00 PM PDT up reply actions

They have been underwhelming, for sure.

The worst matchup for the Blazers remains Dallas.

i dont think so

I’d rather play dallas than LA, SA, Hou for sure. And I’d probably rather play them then Utah as well. However, it’s not likely that Portland and Dallas finish 4-5 or 3-6, so it’s kind of moot.

But give me the Lakers. I want it, and I want it hard.

by Garces on Mar 28, 2009 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Dallas vs. Denver

if we are optimistic of taking care of our own business, we definately want to root for Dallas. With Denver’s closing schedule, we need them to pick up losses to other playoff teams, especially on the road, if we want to have a shot at the division.

On the other hand, if you are more pessimistic and think the Blazers may struggle and drop a game or two that they should win (ala Philly), then the division is lost anyway, so you want to root for Denver so as to stay ahead of as many teams as possible.

Phoenix needs a Dallas loss tonight to get the margin to 3 in the loss column.

They play them head-to-head, which can get it to 2.

It’s plausible that they can catch Dallas.

gee, what a concept

my only real complaint about Nate is how long he leaves starters in blowouts – wins and losses. Last night was a perfect example. LMA should never have come back in after his normal rest with 10 to go in the game. Roy should have gone out with about 8 to go

Like us, the Rockets have an average point guard

Spurs – Parker
Nuggets – Billups
Jazz – Williams
Hornets – Paul
Rockets – Aaron Brooks
Us – Steve Blake

Since PG is our weakest position, I’m hoping for a 4-5 matchup with Houston

by El Rojo on Mar 27, 2009 8:12 PM PDT up reply actions

looking more and more likely

I think Denver, with their play of late and their closing schedule, is going to cruise into the 3 spot (maybe even flip flop SA for the 2), leaving Houston as the front runner for the 4 spot, with us as the front runner for the 5. Utah and NO could still factor into the 5, but their schedules are quite a bit tougher.

Houston’e homecourt doesn’t seem that big of a factor (but I admit I’m not sure), and in some ways I’d rather we get the playoff jitters out in a game 1 loss on the road rather than a game 1 loss at home. If we come back and steal game 2 and then come back to the garden, I like our chances.

Houston 2 up in the win column, and they own the tiebreaker

Just don’t see us leapfrogging either Houston or Denver with the schedules left of both. Tie breakers just kill us, we have to win everything outright.

by diskord on Mar 27, 2009 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions

loss column is what to watch though

and that’s only 1. if we beat them, it’s even, and even better we will own the tiebreaker. Which means we need only play even in with them in the other games.

Possible losses on their schedule:
Hosting Orlando
at Lakers
hosting New Orleans
at Dallas to end the year (Dallas may need to get in)

If they drop 2 of those 4 and lose to us, we need to go 6-3 in our other games finish tied with them. Daunting, but possible If they drop 3 of those 4 and lose to us, we need only go 5-4 against the other teams.

Basically, if we want homecourt, we have to win at Houston.

bad math

if they drop 2 of the 4 games, plus us, we need to go 7-2 in our other games to end up tied.
If they drop 3 of the 4 games, plus us, we need to go 6-3 in our other games to end up tied.

Division chances

took a crushing blow this week. Denver had a 3 game road trip: Phoenix, New Orleans, Dallas and came away with 2 out of 3. That was pretty much the game right there.

Our last shot is to go 8-1, and hope they lose at the L*kers and at home to Utah to set up the final game for the division. our go 7- 2and somehow hope they drop one of (GS, NY, clips, @Minny, OKC). Not bloody likely.

I think right now we should start focusing on finishing in that 4 or 5 slot.
