Rudy Fernandez Shoots for the record
Rudy is now back on pace to tie the 3's mark Set by Kerry Kittles of 158.
With 10 games left the Blazer Rookie only in name has 138 with a nice 2/5 made a game.
At current pace he will tie the record.
With recent games of 3, 4 and 5 threes in a game he is hot at the right time.
The Ariza foul was seriously putting in Jeopardy the record, with four straight games two to injury and two to soreness of zero threes.
The cold streak is over and I believe he will set his goal of setting this mark.

He already has the record for most consecutive games with at least one 3 by a rookie previously held by Kirk Hinrich
But the total would be another nice record.

Oddly, Rudy Fernandez somewhat reminds me of Kerry Kittles both physically and stylistically.
Another name that comes to mind is Michael Dickerson, who was plagued with injuries like Kittles.
Let’s hope that Fernandez, who’s got a relatively frail physique for a NBA player, doesn’t suffer the same fate.

He's been playing professional basketball for longer than only a couple of other players on the team.

Regardless, I don't want to see ol' Rodolfo Fernández pull a Shaun Livingston and ruin his career.

That injury
had nothing to do with “frail physique”. Knees weren’t made to take that, whether you are built like Rudy or like Shaq.

It is amazing that Rudy is on pace for the record
When Kerry Kittles set that record he played over 3000 minutes. If Rudy plays in the rest of the games this season he will still only have about 2000 minutes.

Nevertheless, Kerry Kittles (37.7%) and Rudy Fernandez (38.1%) posted similar efficiency numbers ...
from beyond the arc during their respective rookie seasons; consequently, the minutes played argument doesn’t hold too much water.

Rudys court vision and D
Were really good tonite,Kittles was a one trick pony
by southern oregon on Mar 27, 2009 12:17 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
For a shooting guard, Kerry Kittles was actually a solid ball handler and distributor of the rock.
In all actuality, Kittles’ assist percentage as a rookie (14.0) is superior to Fernandez’s output thus far (13.0) — while the Villanova grad also had a noticeably smaller turnover percentage (9.0) than the Spaniard (11.5) — therefore, this whole “one-trick pony” business is a falsehood.
Oh, and last but not least, Kittles and Fernandez were/are both nothing special defensively.

Sure, he does a workmanlike job of rotating, closing out, and disrupting the passing ...
lanes, but his mediocre man-to-man perimeter defense isn’t anything to write home about.

Yet you are at home writing about it
by Air Norv on Mar 27, 2009 7:46 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was writing about Rudy Fernandez's help defense, which is above average.
Fernandez one-on-one perimeter defense, however, is an entirely different story.

The # of 3-point shots per minute matters
If Rudy is shooting more 3-pointers than Kittles, that means that defenses will focus more on trying to prevent Rudy from shooting 3’s. The average Rudy 3-point attempt is probably more heavily contested than the average Kittles attempt was. Just shooting at a similar percentage is an indication that Rudy is a better shooter.

Kerry Kittles, however, was the only true three-point shooting threat on the New Jersey Nets ...
at that time; thus, the opposition couldn’t just sag off of him like they wouldhis fellow teammate on the wing (i.e., Kendall Gill), for otherwise he’d burn them.

The New Jersey Nets were damn fine at the turn of the millennium, which was a team ...
that featured Kerry Kittles and Jason Kidd backcourt. Also, Kenyon Martin, Keith Van Horn, Richard Jefferson, Lucious Harris, Anthony Johnson, Aaron Williams, and Jason Collins — as well as University of Washington alum Todd MacCulloch, of course — weren’t too shabby of a group. Lest we forget Enumclaw’s finest son, scrub Brian Scalabrine, who played his role.

Presumably
Jason Kidd was a little better at getting open looks for Kittles than our PGs are.
The minutes played comparison is very apt, even if percentages are comparable. It means that Rudy is a more dangerous weapon because he knocks them down more frequently.
If someone plays 40 mpg and knocks down 2 3s a game, that’s nice, but it is hardly going to swing a lot of games your way. Do it in 25 mpg, and you obviously are a much more potent weapon.

It wasn't Jason Kidd, but rather the following man who was the heart and soul ...
of that astonishingly underappreciated New Jesery Nets team from yesteryear that put up one helluva fight versus the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2002 NBA Finals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amGAN8tZzYo
Who says there aren’t a few good Canuckleheads out there?
Oh, for whatever it’s worth, the point guard who played alongside Kerry Kittles in the Nets backcourt during his rookie year wasn’t Kidd; instead, it was a combination of Robert Pack and Sam Cassell — who swapped teams with one another through a two-team, nine-player mid-season deal — which makes a difference in this debate.
by AK1984 on Mar 27, 2009 6:05 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
that's because kidd went htere and turned the team around.
I was a fan at the time. I find it interesting that the team split and everyone but Jefferson and Kidd are a no name really.
