Junk Drawer -- March 25 -- Day Off
The boys in Black and Red have the day off and so do I. (Well, they may have practice, and I have a few things to do, but we'll call it even.) I spent my last day off alternating between dealing with the new dog -- who came from the pound as has a few issues -- and looking for work -- because I have a few issues.
Which got me to thinking ... the Blazers are not on today, what to do?

I like the how so far it's 100% beer and strippers
I’m watching Volcano now and it sure is a crappy movie. Tommy Lee Jones has been in a lot of crappy movies.
by tominhawaii on Mar 25, 2009 6:32 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
yep Volcano was very lame
just a pitiful attempt to cash in on the string of disaster themed movies that came out at the time. Altho, when the guy jumped into the lava up to his knees trying to leap across, that was pretty cool.

Yup
It was just a movie of clichés. Pretty junky for sure. Not as bad as Blown Away.

You remind me "The Towering Inferno" had a lot of succes and was then followed by quite a few films about disasters, all cast in the same mold.
Something similar happened after Steven Spielberg “Jaws”.

Ah yes
I just watched another megalodon movie on SciFi the other day. Shark movies suck. They’re filmed in one or two rooms and the rest is just CGI. I love crappy shark movies almost as much as I love crappy vampire and zombie movies. I almost rented a trailer park zombie movie on Sunday.

You should watch Best Worst Movie once it hits cinemas
From what I heard an awesome documentary about what happened to the guys filming the totally bad Troll 2 that became a cult classic a la Rocky Horror Picture Show and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Seems to be much more interesting and heartwarming than usual “ha, look how stupid those fans and actors are” documentaries. Could be a hidden gem this year.

Have you seen that?

No I have not, but looks interesting
Best Worst Movie is more a look at what became of the people in the film (by one of the main characters) and why did fans still like such a bad movie. Not a behind the scenes during production.

Not only shark movies:
- Tentacoli
- Orca
- Piranha
All between 1977 and 1978.

I think S4E is talking, literally, about the SciFi Channel, not the genre in general.
The SciFi Channel produces the most shocking, low-budget crap of any modern, mainstream production company. I don’t know how they stay in business.
And I love me a good science fiction movie.

Navy fighter pilots
put all too shame. I saw a documentary on Hulu called Speed and Angels and it goes through the training of 2 pilots learning to fly F-14’s (some of the last pilots who were trained in them) and the in cockpit footage of them shooting the approaches to the carriers day/night is incredible. As a pilot myself i can see how hard it is. Not only that, every landing is graded and they have a “Leader board” down in the briefing room with everyone’s scores on it. I can’t believe how stressful it must be. But ya if anyone is interested you should check out that movie, its fantastic
- Neil
by Blazin'aTrail on Mar 25, 2009 9:35 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
In the documentary I watched they flew F-18 Hornets, also originally developed for the Navy to land on carriers
Just keeping those in the air in bad Canadian weather and low light in a cockpit and HUD filled with switches and tiny symbols looked ridiculous at times. And that’s before the trainer in your backseat gets mad at you for not rolling perfectly in a wild dogfight, shooting quickly enough or flying heads down to not lose track who your lead and who your enemy is. And probably with better stats than in sports, everything is recorded for maneuver critique :)

Anyone ever go to Clippers games at Staples?
I’m considering tickets, and am trying to figure out which side of the court has the better front-row tickets (Seriously). For example, is it better to be on the side with the players, or the opposite side? And which end of the court would be Portland’s bench?
Stubhub ain’t useful for this, so I’m (against my better judgment) visiting the Clippers site.
by Timmay! on Mar 25, 2009 3:27 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Aren't the visiting benches always on the right?
(that is when you are looking across the court towards the benches)
by tingeyga on Mar 25, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
All these years of watching the NBA, and I can never remember if the visitors bench is always on one side
You may be right. I also just noticed that at least one stubhub entry specifically says it’s behind the Blazers bench, so that would make it easier. Just not positive if that’s better than having an unobstructed view of the action.

I'm a little ways away, up in the Bay Area
It’s a close enough drive that I’m considering the Clipper game. I haven’t seen the team all year (missed them in Oakland) and I’d really like to see them at least once. I feel like I’d really regret not seeing them during the breakout season.
BTW if you’re going to the Clipper game, I’d go out of my way to say hi. You’re the one in the front row looking and dressed like KP and sitting next to Paul Allen, right?

well..its kinda of cool to watch them watch the game...
if you are immediately behind them you do get REAL close to the guys and that is cool…I was able to look at the clipboard in the huddle in Philly…I hadta apologize to Nate for coaching over his shoulder – - -I was counting down the 24 second clock(loudly) and screaming for them to cover Philly’s run-outs…
It’s real fun to be close to the floor

I think Amundsen is racist, because everyone I’ve seen him get in a fight with is black. What is his deal?!
I mean, once, ok… it happens. But then again and perhaps in the future again and again. He kinda seems to have a problem.

I forgot Amundson was the guy who pushed Zach's buttons
Interesting little specialty he’s developing, eh? Sounds like the Nugs might be on the verge of imploding though, with both Kleiza and Nene getting fined for arguing with the refs.

Say ... got a Q for you, LetsBlaze:
I’ve been doing a lot of yoga recently and noticing how my body loosens up and generally likes it. Do NBA players get into it too?
Seems like a natural fit: balance, stretching, limberness, reflexes, body-awareness …

i heavily encourage it….not sure who is pursuing it….the stretches I recommend are all adaptations of yoga and pilates so people don’t freak out on the names….

What’s weird with perspective is that on the first photo his upper body and arms looks much longer, and on the last one his legs look very long. Combined: Pretty tall dude :)
Even among bball players the differences are huge. Dwight Howard is towering and extending over 99% of the population, but against Shaq he looked small during All-Star weekend. Oden is somewhere in between.
