Junk Drawer 3/24 - Can anybody help?????

I haven't gotten to start one of these before. Huzzah!!!

Anyway, I posted this in yesterday's JD, but got no response. Does anyone out there have an mp3 or other audio file of the original Blazers theme music? I'm not really looking for any ot the remakes that get shown before every TV broadcast now, but the old school one from back in the day with the trumpets and everything. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I'd be ever so grateful.

I suppose that's something.

I’m still hoping someone on here can come up with the whole song. Thanks though!

I don't like being 7th, but Portland could do worse than a Houston 1st round series.

I really like the way Portland matches up with Houston for a few reasons. Aaron Brooks is good, but he’s not the kind of guy that’s going to dominate Steve Blake like Andre Miller did last night. LaMarcus should be able to do whatever he wants on offense against them. There are a few points of concern though. The bench would have to keep up with Houston’s bench players, which hasn’t gone as well in previous meetings. Oden and Ghostface P would have to keep Yao from winning the position battle down low. Also, they can’t let Artest go off like he did last game.

Otherwise, I think that’s a winnable matchup.

As for being in 7th, it’s no fun, but I’m not worried about the playoffs. Besides, when you like at Portland and Phoenix’s schedules respectively with so few games remaining, if Portland can’t keep their lead over the Suns, then they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs yet.

Norsktroll's book club: Buyology

Neuroscience meets business. Marketing guru Martin Lindstrom and his team hooked up people all over the world to MRI machines in an extensive and expensive study how they react to advertisements and brand images. Some findings:

  • There was almost no difference between the way people’s brains reacted to religious icons (say a photo of a rosary, the Pope, the Dalai Lama, whatever religious figure you believe in) and a photo of e.g. a bottle of Coca-Cola. “Nike is a goddess, after all.”
  • Cigarette pack warning labels are counterproductive. The brain is stimulated to crave by the warning.
  • Subliminal advertising works, and is still used especially in the music in stores (buy buy buy, don’t steal)
  • Product placement doesn’t. People mostly ignore it unless it is really instrumental to the story.
  • Sex also doesn’t really sell. But controversy about the ads does (e.g. Calvin Klein in the 90s)

In other news, Bill Simmons’ new book about basketball is almost finished. You know you will want that for Christmas. I think he uses subliminal messages in his podcasts.

by Norsktroll on Mar 24, 2009 9:51 AM PDT reply actions

That's his book about the Red Sox

The basketball book is mostly original content.

Let me be the first to congratulate Miracle Mike Ruffin who after a full season on the inactive list

managed to power past Shav on the depth chart in only ONE PRACTICE!!

Congrats to the discernment of the Blazer coaching staff who apparently see something there that no-one else does

"Sergio and I obtained chalupas to understand their power. Then Sergio showed that each one has 427 calories and 27 grams of fat. Leaping upwards, we reviled the accursed chalupa and its pressure. – Rudy Fernandez

by LetsBlaze on Mar 24, 2009 12:06 PM PDT reply actions

Or doesn't trust Greg and Joel to stay out of foul trouble

Ruffin Puff is just a big body to play backup 4/5 for which Shav isn’t really the right guy. And you can’t teach that, right :)

Quick wrote in his last “behind the locker room” that he would be “shocked” if Channing came back to the Blazers for the next season. So either Shav moves up a spot on the depth chart, or he moves on as well since Nate apparently doesn’t really know what to do with LMA’s backup minutes and trusts nobody completely. Backup PG and PF seem like the positions most in flux.

by Norsktroll on Mar 24, 2009 12:13 PM PDT up reply actions

ah...neither ruff or shav would likely play in front of Chan and his big 4 min burn shows that a half brained exhausted LMA

apparently can out perform all of them in Nates eyes even after 40 min on the floor…

Just direspectful to someone who has been there since training camp to put an out of shape 6’8" guy who has been to one practice in uniform before you…

Shav and Nate went to rival high school is Raleigh (Enloe vs Broughton) and rival ACC schools NC STATE vs Duke) ….maybe thats it….or maybe he just finds big white guys scary

After a season of being completely under-utilized it really makes no difference at this point

so KP loves him and Nate hates him ….whatever…just wish they had left him alone so he could be somewhere that he could play and be appreciated

I have been disappointed in the lack of Shav's utilization myself.

I was really stoked they went with him last fall.

I guess my mind works more like KP’s (a scout’s scout), versus Nate’s (a coach, and kind of a different bird, IMO).

The only reason Shav wasn't on a roster

is due to his injury. Now that he’s fully recovered and proven it, teams will want him.

I have a new pet peeve.

When there’s a picture on the web and it says “click for larger version” and you click and a new window opens with the exact same sized picture, usually with a massive amount of white space around.

That’s all.

I love pet peeves

Nobody steal my idea for a Junk Drawer on Pet Peeves (eh hmm Tom, I know you’re going topic blank and enlisting your wifes help).

I was thinking this morning about a pet peeve of mine. How come when you buy a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner, does the shampoo always last at least twice as long as the conditioner no matter how hard you try to use equal amounts?? I got more.

hardly

I’ve been torched with much greater intensity then that.

The deal is I don’t need alot of shampoo to lather up what hair I have left, and I’m afraid if I over-use shampoo, it will make me even more albino by scrubbing away what dirt is colorizing what is left.

Besides, shampoo waste is rarely talked about. It only takes a small amount to create more then enough lather, the rest becomes body wash which really unnerves me more then bar soap does.

I try to make a conscious effort to use just enough, same with conditioner, which is easier to over-use because it seems to come out faster. Still, the conditioner always ends up empty long before the shampoo.

I’m not worried tho, the stimulus package devoted 30 million dollars to study this phenomenon, so in 9-12 years we will have the answer.

Soon the playoffs are in full swing and it’s summer. January seemed to take long, but the time since the All-Star weekend flew by.

Because the game went to OT and they missed the first quarter. It made me laugh to read what they thought about us. All I can say is…..Karma.

gnarly bad choke.

there are good teams that lose games because of inexperience, then there are bad teams that lose games because of lack of focus or will or passion or pride. the warriors are the latter.
