Open Thread: March Madness (Day 2)
Upset potentials Utah State and North Dakota State are within shouting distance at the half. Syracuse is blowing out Stephen F. Austin (who, I was excited to learn, have a 5'3" player AND a 27-year-old). Oklahoma State leads Tennessee by 4, also at the half. Arizona St/Temple, Utah/Arizona, Wisconsin/Florida St., Siena/Ohio St., Cleveland St./Wake Forest, Xavier/Portland St. (Go Viks!), West Virginia/Dayton, USC/Boston College all on tap for later, plus what should be some 1/16 and 2/15 blowouts
Talk about the games here
Final Scores:
(3) Syracuse 59, (14) Stephen F. Austin 44
(3) Kansas 84, (14) North Dakota State 74
(8) Oklahoma State 77, (9) Tennessee 75
(6) Marquette 58, (11) Utah State 57
(6) Arizona State 66, (11) Temple 57
(1) Pittsburgh 72, (16) East Tennessee State 62
(3) Missouri 78, (14) Cornell 59
(11) Dayton 68, (6) West Virginia 60

I have Syracuse in the Final Four
nice to see them properly beating the 14 seed into submission.

Only watched the first couple minutes, but I was really impressed with their defense. SFA was sniffing anything inside of 15 feet

Can someone with MMOD tell me what happens w/MMOD during commercials?

You see commercials
And it doesn’t let you change the channel to another game when commercials are on. You have to cleverly change channels when you know commercials are coming or else you get stuck.
Observations from NDSU/KU
I love Gus Johnson
This Ben Woodside fellow is good at basketball
Kansas’ alley-oops are a sign of being well-coached, IMO
If KU makes a deep run, Sherron Collins’ draft stock is going to shoot up

Marq vs Utah State is bowling-shoe-ugly
But it’s a close game and is now an upset special. Utah State now up by 3, 5 minutes left.

Horrible call in the Pitt game
on the fastbreak, a Pitt player bumped into a ET player, bumping them into the player going for the layup… so that would be a foul on the non-shooter, right? No. The guy who attempted the layup went to the line.

So
I guess I should root against Pitt, so Blair’s stock will fall… He’s like Oden, if Oden were short and of average athleticism.

Harden does not remind me of Roy
I’m not that impressed by this year’s draft class.
draft dejuan blair
I am reminded of Roy
Smart player who can help any team win. Yet I think the “not very athletic” label is more justified in his case.
exactly
watching Roy in college, he stood out in a huge way. His athleticism was apparent, and he dominated both ends of the court.
Harden doesn’t jump out of the tv and scream “NBA star.” Roy did.

he is a good college guy, but he won’t be a good NBA player. he’s 290 and only 6’6. Zach Randolph without the attitude would be a best-case scenario I would think.

at least, from the half-game I've seen today

Barkley, Millsap
guys with length, rebounding, and elite athleticism always have their rebounding translate to the NBA.
He averages 1.6 times the offensive rebounds of the second best offensive rebounder in the conference.
I’ll post a breakdown on the DDB plog soon.
draft dejuan blair
Supposedly, he’s got a huge wingspan, like 7’3" or something, so he “plays taller”

That would be Al Jefferson. I would take that as our backup ;-)
I’ve got much more confidence Blake can overcome his difficulties to become a solid NBA player than Hansbrough at this point.
He looks like a more athletic Schortsanitis
The Greek Baby Shaq who killed Bosh, Jamison, Howard & Co. at the last world championships. That guy was too heavy to make it to the NBA, but you get the idea.

Simmons is a Clips fan
Meaning he is either retarded or a masochist.
Or both.
These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx
He's an adopted Clips fan.
He’s also not anti-Blazers. He makes some really positive comments about them. I think he just knows that Portland has an active Internet presence and it’s a great way to get attention.
He does seem very pro-Durant and, therefore, anti-Oden though. Which plays well into the whole “getting attention” thing.
I hope he eats his Oden crow appropriately
He’s alright about that… he’ll probably say Oden is good, he was wrong, but he prefers Durant.
draft dejuan blair
Why is it either-or?
Both Durant and Oden are good players and they will both be great. It’s like Magic/Bird. You can’t tell me both of those teams weren’t happy with who they picked.
These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx
I also don't get why it's either-or

what are the sys requirements for that?
I have a duel core 1.83ghz 2gb ram 256 mb video card Dell with XP sitting around….is the beta open right now and is it worth upgrading to?
Bedge or go home -- Sabonis4Ever
it could probably handle it, windows 7 actually has lower requirements than vista because they have done a much better job with process management. The beta has closed for getting keys but they only issued 4 keys and you got one of the four, a quick search online would get you the beta and a key.

I didn't realize it was the same 4 keys. Funny. :)
I’m considering setting up Windows 7 as the primary media center machine in the house, but am trying to confirm how stable the recording function is.
Hopefully Windows 7 is to Windows Vista, as IE8 is to IE7.
I was running it on a similarly spec'd machine
